Doctor Who Season 4!!!

I don't know. I think I'd take him as a chopped off hand. ;)

I've been avoiding this thread until I could see the finale. Count me among the disappointed at the last 10-15 minutes. :sad2: Come on, would Rose really settle?? And remember when Rose gained all the knowledge of the universe and the Doctor fixed her? Why couldn't he fix Donna? She's my favorite companion of all, and I had to know it wouldn't last. :sad1:

I was disappointed, too. I'm new to Dr. Who (just started watching this season), but I really liked Donna. They could have done better.

I guess we can post spoilers now.

Yeah, hated what they did to Rose. Accepting of what they did to Donna...although I wish she would have retained some of her new-found confidence post memory wipe. Would Rose settle? Heck no. However, she also wouldn't want to make the Doctor (version 1.0) feel any more guilty than he already does and make it hard for him to go on saving the universe. Would you kiss another guy if you thought it would make things just a little easier for the one you love?

My fear is that this is really it for her character. That the writers will feel that this is just too convenient a way to rid themselves of an annoying guest character for once and for all. Now they can have the Doctor move on to other uncomfortable pseudo-relationships with folks like River Song, because there's no longer any Rose out there for the Doctor to worry about. And that hurts, because I really liked Rose.

However, even if they did bring her back (and I honestly don't think they could do that without somehow killing off version 2.0), I'm really not sure I'd be willing to forgive Doctor 1.0 for his actions. "Hey, thanks for launching yourself into goodness know how many alternate universes with a dimensional cannon and crossing untold time and space just to find me. Would you mind taking this physically inferior, psychologically damaged extra copy of me and go live on a paralell earth that you hate so that I don't have to deal with him? Thanks, I'm gonna go off and travel the universe and all of time with a succession of beautiful and intelligent companions who I'll likely never tell about you or my embarrasing other self. No need for goodbyes!"

I know....I have some bitterness issues. Can you blame me?

While we still wanted Rose to be with THE Doctor, he still is the Doctor. (if she can get past the creepy grown from my old hand thing;) )
And the fact that he will grow old with her is pretty sweet. (maybe we watched too much highlander, but it would have been sad for both of them for her to age, and him to just change)
As for Donna, It was SO sad when she just blew him off at the end. She ended up being a great companion. Did anyone else notice the extra flash that big black ring did when she was on the phone and he left.... Have we seen the last of Donna?

We probably didn't get any follow up with the Torchwood gang and the SJA people because they each will have their own shows, and they may not have their scripts set for how they want to address the moving of the earth across the universe and back.

I will say that the Tardis pulling the Earth home was SUPER cheesy.

But over all, I liked that they wrapped everything up, and while I love Rose, if they are not going to bring her back, then I am glad she at least is not alone.
I am annoyed that they didn't show the preview for the next special.

A little off track - but just noticed BBCAmerica is airing a marathon and Blink is on next.

Just for grins if we could get inside Torchwood and SJA: what do we think happened post epsiode? For SJA I could see a Sarah Jane/Luke reunion and for Torchwood it would have to be just Jack,Gwen and Ianto.

I would have been happier if Rose and Donna had died. *Seriously*.

They made Donna truly "stupid". She was a specially ordinary person and Russell T Davies et all took away all her achievements and all her growth as a character. She is now finally what she always feared...an actual nobody. CONGRATS ON THAT TO the Dr Who PTB.
NOT.

agnes!
PS - Remember, Mickey and Martha Jones walked off with Jack :rolleyes1 at the end.

The Earth being moved back sequence: Luke acted like a kid! But I loved Gwen and Ianto, they were just hanging onto a light fixture!

A few quick things:

Jack kicking the Dalek out of the way was pure him
Sarah Jane and Rose's "Nice to see you again!" was just cute
I actually liked Jackie when she was the nosy mom
Am I among the few that loved it when Donna hugged Jack? Plus I think if things were different he would have hit on Sarah Jane
Where was Rhys, PC Andy and the rest of the SJA kids???

Maria is in Cornwall, Luke said so.

As for Andy the policeman (who I'm actually quite fond of), one assumes he was busy keeping the peace. Since pretty much all of his superiors were killed off in the last Torchwood episode he's likely got police problems to deal with.

I just saw the finale (if I'd been any place with cable or internet I would've seen it at its airing, believe me) and I must say I have mixed feelings. It was all fine through the scene where they're pulling Earth home (everybody piloting the TARDIS and happy) but after that... my head is almost spinning. I have no idea what I should think; it'll probably take a few weeks of settling and seeing the episode again a few times to truly determine how I should feel about it.

Anyway, I thought it was horrible how they left Rose. A previous poster expressed that it felt like a "Sorry Rose, I know you hate this parallel universe, but here you are, now go watch this dark copy of me 'cause I can't be bothered. Now I'm going to swan off and have adventures and pretend we're both fine because it eases my mind a bit. Bye." Yeah, it did. However, it was toned down a bit (notice I said "a bit") by the sweetness of the fact that now she'll have the Doctor, only he can spend the rest of his life with her as she would have with him. And I always knew that's what he said to her as the message was fading!

As for Donna... I think it's the most horrible thing that's ever happened to a companion. He ruined Martha, but even that wasn't half as bad as what he did to Donna. I don't understand why he couldn't save her mind intact like he did for Rose; perhaps it was related to the fact that Donna's was a biological thing and Rose's wasn't. Sometimes I wonder, deep in that place where things are kept that are too awful to be considered, if perhaps he even did it on purpose, went extreme so he wouldn't make yet another person into a weapon for his use. But if he did that, he used her in the worst way possible, and he took away from her all that he made her. She was strong, and good, and smart, and he took that all away from her and made her once again less than she was. God, I want to cry thinking about it. That was horrible, just horrible.

Okay, I know this board has been defunct for months now, I'm just hoping someone out there who is a bigger Doctor Who geek than myself is still listening and can answer my question.

Anyone out there been reading Doctor Who: The Forgotten? It's a six edition comic book series, and the 5th volume just came out. It's....well...the series started off just "okay", then got more interesting, and then this most recent issue....arrrggghhh!!!!! Look, I'm not going to spoil anything for anyone, I just need to know:

ARE THESE CANON?!?

The author's website refers to them as "BBC approved", but what the heck does that mean?! Also, the site has a teaser image from the next comic and...just...oh, my god...I just need to know okay. Make fun of me all you want.

Please geeky disboard fans, come to my rescue.

According to the TARDIS wiki, the comic book series is an "officially sanctioned spin-off". However, it is a spinoff. In reading the small summary, I take it to be like... Star Wars Infinities. They're official, but they're officially unofficial; "what if's" if you will. Also, kind of like the DW novels. They're official, but I don't take them as canon. To me, only the television shows are canon.

However, others may take them however they like. To some, the definition of canon extends to all officially sanctioned material.

Ok, So I am a big Doctor Who Geek but I don't know anything about the comic book series.

However... Saturday night there will be a BIG announcement.
I don't want to say much since I don't want to spoil anything for those who don't want to know...

What they said! :) I don't take the comics to be "official" but may be just an alternate timeline or something of the sort.

BTW, the new Doctor has been announced. Matt Smith. http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/newsid_7800000/newsid_7809400/7809427.stm

Never heard of him before. But hopefully he'll bring a younger feel to the Doctor.

I'm still missing #10 though. This new guy better do us proud!
