Do your parents have rules about body modification?

My whole thing is like, piercings can close up...it costs so much money to get a PERMANENT tattoo removed? So I personally don't see the big deal. But my parents do :headache:

Old lady ringing in here!!

I have a 16 yo son. No tatts--yet, and a single ear pierced. I am not totally against tatts, but I think you have to be careful what you get put on in permanent ink. I told my son if we let him get a tattoo at age 3 he'd be forever struggling to hides a big ole Barney on his forearm from the guys in the football locker room. So, what's to say the tatt you get today won't be an embarrassment 10-15 years down the road?

I have a client--about 22 years old. When he was 15 he got a revolver inked onto his inner forearm. Figured he'd be a Gangsta' 4 life. Now, he's in college--engineering program and goes to great lengths to hide that tatt. I never see him in anything but long sleeved shirts anymore.

That being said, I am toying with the idea of a celtic cross on my anke. But, not until my son turns 18! ;)

That's seriously so true!
It stinks for some people because they truly end up regretting the tattoos they get.

I don't think my parents have any rules about that (probably because I never asked, except for earrings). Not sure if they'd want me to get a tattoo though. I got my ears pierced years ago. Not sure if that counts?

I once wanted one of these:

Lol, don't ask. I thought they were cool. But I only liked the idea for about a day. Then I hated it. It looks so gross and painful :c.
No offense to anyone who has one. I'm glad I didn't get one.

:scared1: Omggggg that looks so painful & it's not even cute. Ouch!

For the record, most corset piercings are meant to be temporary. They are usually only worn for a week and then removed and let to heal. A large guage ring is used, which is a safeguard against tearing (smaller guages, like what you probably have in your ears right now) are far more likely to tear out of your ears when yanked on then a larger guage (to an extent).

I'd love to get my rook pierced:

my parents don't really care.
my mom got my ears pierced before i could even walk.
it wasn't even my choice.
XD
as of right now, i have two piercings in my left ear and four in my right as well as my right cartlidge.

i will hopefully be getting a tattoo on each of my wrists next year when i turn 18.
my parents don't care if i have them, as long as i am 18 and old enough to go get it done on my own.

i also went to get my nose pierced but chickened out.
i still want it, but i am scared it will hurt or ruin my face.
i know i can always take it out, but i'm scared it will look bad on me.
plus, you can't have them in softball, so i'd have to put tape over my nose until it healed and that would just look stupid.
XD

I want to get my nose pierced too.
But I have a dance competition next month and my studio's rule is that you have to take piercings out.. so I don't want to get it pierced and then have to take it out and get it messed up.
Maybe for my 18th birthday.. in October.

I have my ears peirced twice.
I'm turning 19, and in college.
My parents rules are a little fuzzy, they don't LOVE the idea of a tattoo, but if I got one there's nothing they would do. So hopefully I'll be getting a treble cleft on my right shoulder blade sometime soon.
I also really LOVE industrial peircings so I'm getting one as soon as I go back up to school in August :)

OWWWWWW. Holy freaking... D: I can't say anything else..

my parents would NEVER let me get a tattoo or peircing.
i only have my ears done
i want to get my nose pierced though.
not a ring..but a stud.

My idea for the tattoo I want is pretty simple, and I don't think I'd ever regret it.

I call my grampa 'P' and I want to get the tattoo artist to trace his 'signature' off one of my birthday cards and get that tattooed on me behind my ear.
SO it's really personal to me and I don't think I'd ever regret it because it's just one letter and it means so much to me.
(he's survived cancer twice and he's one of the most important people in my life so I want to get something to honour it)
That's so sweet Caitlin. :goodvibes

Whoah, that looks awesome. :D

I'm not even sure what my parents rules about that is. They probably haven't set any because they know I don't really want any piercings or tattoos right now.
I have my ears pierced but that's it. I got it done when I was like 11. My parents bribed me to get them done. lol. I don't really ever wear earrings tho. Only like once a month so like the holes don't close.

I have my rook done :) I got it...4 years ago? It's my favorite <3

Piercings: I got my ears done first @ 3, had to beg for double pierced ears at 13, my Dad took me to get my third ones at 14, and I got my fourth done at 16, then they closed, got them done again at 18 last summer and they closed again. Not meant to be I suppose :(

Got my rook done at 15. Had my cartilage originally done in early 2007, but it got infected, and I just recently got it re-pierced last winter.

Tattoos: Mom is not really a fan, Dad has 4. Dad always said he would take me to get my first tattoo when I decided I wanted one. I got my first in February of 2008 (turned 18 in Nov. 2007), second in June 2008, and my most recent just over a week ago.

Parents are a little concerned I guess now that I have three, but I think they trust me, because all 3 can be covered up if need be, and I do not wish to get a large piece that is visible on my legs/arms/chest.. and I am VERY picky about where I place my tattoos. I considered getting my last piece on my ribs, but decided against it due to concerns of it stretching later when I want to have children. My ink is in places which does not have a high chance of being disfigured/stretched out (side of back/feet/ankles)

Courtney, what did you get this time? I am SERIOUSLY considering another one, and I may be going in before the summer is over.

I apologize ahead of time for the size ...woops

This is my newest (still obsessed with it!):

My friend designed it for me (she also designed my first one - the butterfly). She and my artist both did an incredible job and I am so so so happy with it; it was even worth wearing uncomfortable ballet flats to work for a week while it was healing and I couldn't wear socks or sneakers!
It also hurt more than any of my others, and is my biggest. But I am so in love with it :)

Aw that's so pretty! What's it's meaning?
I <3 the tribal lines/dots, and I want to incorporate it into something for the future in terms of tattooing. And more importantly, I <3 top of the foot tattoos. As if you couldn't tell. ;)

Did anyone try to scare you out of top of foot tattoos? They did to me, but I said absolutely not because I couldn't picture mine anywhere else.

Thank you :)
It's an Irish claddagh design (like the claddagh rings) which traditionally have meanings of love (the heart), loyalty (the crown) and friendship (the hands). There's a quote: "With these hands I give you my heart, and crown it with my love".

My friend designed it for me, and added the other flourish-y details because I didn't want just the claddagh sitting there on my foot.

I debated about the location for a while, but I really think ink on the top of the foot is super cute, and easily hidden if need be. I heard that it would hurt SOO BAD. I tried not to think about the pain beforehand, but OMG when I was getting it, there was no escape. The worst parts were near my toes, and on the side, there's a section really low and I thought I was going to scream it hurt so bad.

And I debated with the left/right foot for a while because both my other tattoos are on my right side, and my rook and cartilage earrings are also on the right and I thought I could use some balance lol. However, tradition says that a claddagh ring worn on the left hand with the heart facing out (as my tattoo is) symbolizes being engaged. I kind of had to make an exception though because 1 it would look dumb with the heart facing me (inward) and 2 I wanted it on the left. Someday if/when I'm engaged, I can show it off and be PC though I guess ;)

Really? I asked around and people said foot tattoos were the WORST EVARRR! So I went in prepared to just about soil my pants. But, it wasn't so bad. I thought it felt kind of good really, like releasing adrenaline. The worst part was by my toes, over the tendons. Owwie. The easiest part was where it was vibrating on my bone - it didn't hurt at all. Like, on the very top of my foot.

I have a theory on tattoo pain actually hahaha
I think that for your first, you are excited and maybe slightly nervous, and you don't really know what to expect until you get there. For me, my first hurt the least out of all of them (except for the part that was over my Achilles') I think, because I was too excited to be there getting it done to notice!

Going into my others, I knew what I was getting into. My back was relatively painless, save for part that was over my lower rib - that was the worst for that tattoo.
This one on my foot was absolutely the worst. I think it was in part location, and also because I was posed awkwardly for the parts on the side of my foot so it was hard to relax the way I was sitting. Also, there's a ton of nerve endings down in the foot and I don't think that helped me at all, lol. The pain wouldn't prevent me from getting another, but MAN did it hurt like heck.

I only have 2 holes right now, one in each ear lobe. I would love to get another hole in each! I'm also debating a belly button ring, but I have heard horror stories about them, so I'm not sure. Any of you have them?

And I'm also thinking about getting a small cross with thorns on my lower back. I want one that isn't visible to everyone.

I like lower back tattoos, even though there's the stigma of "tramp stamps", and I would get one if it weren't for one thing: you can't get epidurals.
