Do your kids have a TV in their room?

They have one in their gameroom that they share - but they are limited to 1 hour of tv a day during the school year. I don't anticipate ever putting one in their bedrooms, but if I do they will be older teenagers.

My DD10 does not have one in her room. She begs quite frequently thinking I'll cave in for christmas, but she's wrong. I too would like some control over watch she's watching and with 2 other tv's in the house accessible to her, I won't give her a chance to isolate herself in her room and park herself there. I know she would.

When she asks, I plug in the portable vcr w/monitor for her to watch movies on..it's smaller than a tv, but it lets her have some entertainment in her room temporarily.

Yes, He's a teenager and plays his Nintendo games on it. If he watches T.V., it's the History or Discovery Channel (his choice).

Yep, they both do.

The youngest has asked for a new t.v. for Christmas. He wants a larger one....it's an inherited condition.

Nope, I don't see a need for one. There is a TV in the living room and in the family room, the one in the family room is for DS to use with his Nintendo and his videos, I think that is sufficient enough.

I am 29 and have still never had a TV in my bedroom! (except in the dorm, when it always belonged to my roommate) I still consider it a luxury item. Little kids with TV's, VCR's and DVD players in their room? Gives a whole new meaning to the "go to your room" punishment

No, and they will not as long as they live under our roof!!

I frequently see kids with sleep problems. Do you know what the most common cause is? Staying up too late watching TV!

We always advise that the bedroom should be reserved for sleeping, only, and not a lot of activities that can keep you up all night.

Our older 2 got TVs for Christmas in their senior years as preparation to go to college.
Our younger 2 will get one when they are seniors as well.

No. They ask, but the answer is always the same...No

Yes, all 3 of them do.
The are in bed by 9:00 and no tvs are on after that time so it doesn't have any effect on their sleep.
They usually watch in th living room or down in the family room. The bedroom tvs are used infrequently.

My boys share a room and yes, they have a TV in the room. They mainly use it play Nintendo.

Both boys prefer to watch TV in the family room and rarely watch television in there room.

Even thought my DD has a TV (and other electronics) in her room doesn't mean she doens't have a bed time on school nights. She would go to bed at the same time regardless of having a TV or not. As for "go to your room", she rarely gets in trouble enough to be sent to her room. And if I do say "go to your room" it usually means I want her out of my hair, not that she's being punished. When it is used for punishment, she still gets all whiny about being punished and isn't allowed to turn her on TV.

I didn't get a tv till I went to college, my brother didn't get a tv till he went to college either, my sister, a freshman in high school, got one last year, I got a bigger one and she is borrowing my old one till I move out and want it back, we had a tv in family room and one in the basement and my Mom didn't watch any tv till she had to have surgery around the time I went to college and she got one for her room, but when my sister was younger she didn't watch that much tv so I used one and my brother used the other, it wasn't until my Mom started watching tv and my sister got older that we started having fights about the tv, now when my brother is home we have 6 tv's and 5 people:rolleyes: :p, 5 tv's and 4 people when he is at school.

Nope! Maybe when they're seniors in high school, but not before then. I think most kids today watch too much TV as it is, and if my kids had one in their room, it would just give them easier access. I don't let them watch TV at all during the week, so there's no need to have one in their rooms anyway. :p Besides, cartoons turn your brain to mush, don't ya know!?!? So I tell my kids anyway. ;) :p

Both my boys do now. DS 13 rarely uses it for anything other than Playstation and DS 9 ( he just got his this summer) has a small tv / vcr combo for watching movies. He is the type that can watch his Disney movies until the tape breaks. The TV's have nothing to do with their bedtime and are never on at that time so there is no problem with that. On the occasions they are sent to their room they both know this means no "electric" entertainment during that time period and I have never had a problem with that either.
