Do your kids have a TV in their room?

My first child won't be here for another 3 months, but the answer will be no for the next 18 years. If we get to the point where we need more TVs to keep peace, they'll be in more "public" rooms, like the living room, the computer room, or DH's and my room, so that we can easily monitor what they watch. But we're planning to avoid TV as much as possible. DH was practically raised by the TV, and he's very adament about this.

My sister and I have had a TV in our rooms for over 5 years. I love having it in here so I can watch TV while I'm on the computer and I can watch TV before I go to bed.

I have one, without cable. I hardly ever watch it, though...it just sits in here. I like watching TV out in the living room better, but I hardly ever have the time to watch any TV at all. When I do watch it, it is usually the 11:00 news that I watch as I am getting ready for bed.

Yes, both of my teens do. And, as a matter of fact, DH and I have one in our bedroom as well.

My kids have them. The girls have a tv/vhs combo, my son a tv with video games/playstation for dvds. They still prefer to watch with us in the den until we head upstairs. I have no problem monitoring what they watch as I am in the house with them. They are rarely ever in a different room than I am. ;)

DD has a TV, VCR & DVD player

DS has 2 TV's(one to watch & one for PS2/xbox) & DVD player.

And, no I didn't buy them all this stuff. My in-laws did! They love to spoil them. They always ask us first though, before they buy it

I had one when I was a kid. I don't have kids yet, but when I do I don't plan on letting them have a tv in their room.

yes they do.... dd is almost 13 and ds is 5...... they have VCR's and cable too. We have 6 tv's in this house..... how come everyone always wants to watch the one I'M watching??

I had a phone in my room from age 12 on..... I said yes to tv.... no to telephone!

I never would have allowed oldest DS to have one in his room. Fast forward 18 years later, with youngest DS. He has a TV in his room. Now that he has a playstation 2 he uses it mainly for that and I don't have to deal with the mess that comes with video games in the livingroom!;)

TC:cool:

I didn't have one until I bought my own in college, and even then I didn't really watch it, I more stored it in my room during the summer. My DH didn't have one either in his room and neither of us think (at this point) that we would allow a TV in the kids room if we have kids.

My 3 year old does not have one in her room, but every once in awhile I think it would be nice to send her to her room to watch TV to get her out of my hair. Like today :earseek:. Today would have been a real good day for a TV in her room.

DS Bradley has a phone, tv, computer, a couple of video game systems, and a really cool disco light!!

DS Garrett has a TV.

THe 3 girls have TV and VCR.

No, but on special nights we'll put the TV in her room...:)

Isnt it funny, those who do, dont seem to use them much? Interesting! :)

My son has a TV in his room and a video player too. He mostly watches videos on it and he likes to turn on Nick at Nite sometimes before he goes to bed.

I had a TV in my room when I was a kid and I rarely watched it just like now. :)

TV, nintendo, telephone etc etc... I think it makes it better, when she gets grounded she has to look at it and not be able to use it!!

For now, DD has toys in her room.

DS on the other hand, has a TV (which he bought), an old VCR of ours and, his Xbox game/DVD player (a gift), in his room. He's very responsible about his TV/game playing time.

No. I have one in my room though. DS won't have one
in his room. First-if I get tired of what he's watching-the
TV goes off. Second-DS doesn't watch that much TV. The
TV pretty much comes on in our house only by prearrangement.
We read, we play games, go outside, we use our other toys and
tools like the microscope. Last night we spent an hour looking
at slides. I watch the news in the morning while I get
ready for work-no TV for DS. I turn on my TV after 9 when
DS is in bed. Ds has certain shows he likes to watch and
otherwise we watch Discovery channel or sometimes
National Geographic(although much of the latter is forensic
science and not appropriate.) He likes Bill Nye, Jimmy Neutron
and Sponge Bob Squarepants. When he's sick, he watches
lots of TV or I read to him. A TV caused my brother to
completely withdraw as an adolescent. My nephew is well
on his way to staying shut up in his room too. I don't
think it's wise and in our case would only serve to shut down
the communication options in our household.

As of last weekend, yes, she does have a TV. It's only because we had no where else to put the extra TV now, lol. She must ask permission to watch it though.
