Do Your Children Give Gifts to Each Other?

Aww, I bet this will touch your heart. We brought Christian home this afternoon from his weekend away at the respite house. The ladies there all know him and love him--they've been caring for him since he was 7yo. This weekend they only had 3 kids staying, so they loaded them up in the van and took them to the dollar store to shop *we always leave him with a little money, in case they go to the movies or out for ice cream.* Anyway, he picked out gifts for his sister--Werthers butterscotch candies, body butter, chocolate covered cherries, and some whipped foot cream. :goodvibes They also helped him buy a shiny red bag to put the gifties in. So sweet. I'm so proud of him.:lovestruc

Yes. This year I took the kids to Barnes & Noble to pick out family presents. DS 11 got me a 'Outside the box' puzzle book, DD10 a kid cookbook and DH a Sudoku book. DD10 got me a lateral thinking puzzle book, DH a non fiction book and DS a book full of mysteries the reader gets to try and solve.:thumbsup2

Yes. My kids buy for each other, and for DH and I. They use their own money. They also end up making us a whole bunch of construction paper gifts. They are just as excited about giving us their gifts as they are about getting gifts. I love that.

Yes! My children loved to do this. Dh and I were just talking about this a few days ago. We were fondly recalling when they were little and we would take them to the dollar store and let them loose. Hours in the dollar store finding the right gift for each other. The girls would buy for the boys and visa versa and then they would get together and buy for the older siblings. They could not WAIT for this part of the holiday to come around. I miss the excitement on their faces as you were opening their gift they had taken hours to pick out and used a whole roll of tape to wrap!

And yes, it is something they still do for each other. They enjoy looking for the perfect gift. My sdd18 is the one, though, who listens throughout the year for what you are looking for and what you like. She has the gift giver instinct! She always gets me the BEST gifts. My other children are very practical and the boys, well they are 'fun' gift buyers. If it makes noise or smells they can find someone who will 'love' it!

Our girls buy for each other as well. They have the Santa shop at my older DD's school so she shops for us, her sister and the Grands. They have a morning when anyone can go shop as well and I usually have one of the grands bring my youngest so she can shop as well. I would take her myself but she told me I'm not allowed because she doesn't want me to see my gift.

I also let them each pick out one gift at the regular store for each other. It's usually around $15 each.

One of my favorite gifts is the one my youngest got me last year at the Santa Shop. She bought me a little stuffed banana. LOL I strung it and use it as an ornament. She was so happy to see it on the tree this year. I'll have to take a pic and try to share it. I love the stuff they come up with when left to their own devices.
