I am a SAHM and ends are getting harder and harder to meet. With rumors stating that gas will be $3.75 a gallon this spring (it's already at $3.09) it doesn't seem like it will be getting easier anytime sooner.

With that being said Kohl's has announced that they are going be opening a new store about 20 miles from me. Although most businesses close in this small town fairly early I'd assume that Kohl's would stay open later making it easier to work around DHs early work schedule and DS school schedule.

So I am considering applying for a part time job when they become available. Do you work at Kohl's? Love it, hate would you recommend your best friend to apply there? Are they flexible with scheduling? Employee benefits? Basically what info can you give me that you think I should know before applying or is it a bad idea to apply? Do they usually start above minimum wage? TIA:goodvibes

I don't know how much they pay, but I think you should apply. Give it a try, change is good. I'm also a sahm by day and pt worker by night. It's a balance, but it should give you what you need. Ps - search these boards for kohls. I think I remember a similar thread a while back.

Before I started nursing school I had a part time job at Kohls. I worked overnights and all we did was change the sale signs. It was sooo easy. My hours were 10:30pm-6am and I think I was paid around $12/hr. Not bad for such an easy job that didn't require me to pay for child care since the kids were at home sleeping with dh!

I worked at Kohls fulltime before I had my DD 5 years ago. Just like you with times being tough now a days I had a find something to do. I deided I'd go back to kohls and talk to them since they had ben calling me for a year asking me to go back. For now I am part time making $8.50. It's a great part time job if you are in the right department. I just merchandise all of the new stuff that comes in which was my fav part of my job before. The discount is also worth it being a mom with growing kids. Good luck

I've been toying with the idea of working at Kohl's as well. I love shopping there so might as well get a discount too. :thumbsup2

If you work a night shift can you do it 2 or so nights a week? Or is it full time?

I was thinking about looking here too. There are several Kohls in my area hiring right now. I'm the opposite of pp , I do NOT like to work where I shop it costs me money on things that are too good of a "deal" to pass up. :-) I shop at Kohls occasionally but it's not my go to store. I would love an overnight shift job, I have always preferred this shift. If I could get something like that I could more easily do FT. Hope some more people who work here reply.

I worked at kohls for a little bit right out of college. I think they pay minimum wage. I enjoyed the people I worked with and the company. The on;y problem I had is sometimes they are a little to relaxed with the employees and it was a "get what you can get done. Don't worry about it" kind of attitude, which frustrated me a bit because I'm a very hard worker and liked to have my section completely cleaned during each shift, but other workers didn't feel like they had to do the same. So I would come in and it was like the person before me did nothing and I had to work triple hard to get it back to the way I wanted it. But the discount was good and again, the company was very nice and supportive.

I work at Kohls part-time. It's my 2nd job. I love it! I got hired for seasonal and they kept a few people on, me being one of them!!! The people that work there are all great, which really makes the job. It IS very hard working there since it's my favorite store ;) The discount is great. There are times when you get discount on top of discount on top of discount! I have 2 teenagers that go through clothes and shoes like water! I do only make minimum wage, but the job is fun and the discount is great.

The Kohls I work at is very flexible. I give them a copy of my schedule and they work around it. I do work mostly weekends. They don't expect you to work every weekend though. (They told me every other weekend is good)

I worked PT at Kohls about 8 years ago. Loved it. I was a cashier and it was a very easy job. Didnt have to do any of the stocking at night or cleanup. The 2 downfalls were...the discount was 15% even off clearance items so most of my check went to that (thought I did outfit my DH and I for our 10 day honeymoon for under 50 bucks and that was everything for Cancun but shoes) the other being they kept adding hours to my schedule..started out under 20 and by the end of my time there I was up to 38 and it was just too much especially since it was PT.
Good luck!!

I worked there many years ago as a cashier and the store I worked at we DID have to help clean the depts before we could leave. That meant that the dept people mostly waited until we closed so they could get help to clean. Sometimes we didnt get out until over an hour after we closed

They were not very flexible about hours either.

I dont know, but maybe they arent all the same

What a difference the managers make. Deffiently not "relax" at our local Kohls. They expect you to get 8 hours of work done but only schedule you for 5.

I was a supervisor at a local Kohl's. The pay was great - the hours were good, and they worked with your schedule, and it was pretty laid back and non stressful. I would try it - but remember if it's a new store it's going to be packed at first from all of the people trying it!
