The issue of yucky unwashed blankets and bedspreads comes up regularly on this forum. While it is possible, with great effort, to get supposedly washed blankets and bedspreads if you ask for them, most people don't. When I visit WDW I take my own duvets or at least some clean sheets to lay over the dirty blankets so I don't have to touch them.

In Europe, for years they have used duvets with a clean, freshly washed wrapper after every guest. Most decent American hotels now do this. Hampton Inn, for example, has "everything washed" bedding at every hotel. I cannot describe how much better one sleeps with the only thing touching one's body is smooth, clean sheets.

Now to Disney. The bedspreads are generally "pretty." They add to the room decor. But they are by their very nature not as clean as a plain, white duvet cover.

So which would you rather have, everything washed bedding or a pretty bedspread?

The model rooms for the Grand Californian villas have duvets on the beds. Although a firm commitment wasn't made, I was lead to believe that it's only a matter of time before that new feature filters down to the older resorts.

I love the Hampton Inn duvets. But really, it doesn't matter to me if they are "all white" or not. White would definately show stains, even if they are freshly laundered and sterilized, meaning they'd either "look dirty" or have to be replaced more often, at our expense as members.

Using a duvet with a themed print cover that is laundered between guests would be great, though.

There really isn't a place for me to answer in the poll.

Chuck,

You are right that they don't need to be "white," although I think white gives a greater look of cleanliness. A print would be nice. I do fear that a print would start to fade rather quickly.

Some hotels have a little day-blanket style "drape" that they put over the bottom half of the bed. It's not washed every day and clearly not meant for using as bedding. It's just there for show, and does add some color to the room.

I voted yes, but the duvet or duvet covers don't matter that much to me. I take the bedspread off, and I'd probably take the duvet off, too. I sleep warm and they get too hot. I felt suffocated in the Dolphin's Heavenly bed (the mattress was nice). I'd just about stripped the thing by morning. Just give me clean sheets and maybe a VERY light (washed) blanket and I'll be happy.

I've always looked at the Disney/DVC bedspreads as decorative and something akin to a sofa cover that keeps dirt/dust off the beds when someone sits on them or throws suitcases on them - not something to actually sleep under.

We traded into the Westin Kierland Villas last fall and they had the all white "Heavenly Bed". Looked terrific, but that darn duvet didn't stay on the bed for two minutes. Slid right off, so it was useless as a warm cover which you do need in Disney on some winter nights.
That said, if they could come up with one that stayed on the bed I would be on board no matter what color they chose. Although, white is bleachable which is a really good thing.

I agree. I like how the bedspread patterns fit into the theme of each resort. However, I would very much prefer that all bedding be washed in between each guest. That has always skeeved me out about hotel rooms, LOL.

You might as well ask "so which would you rather have, higher maintenance fees for every-day washed bedspreads, or leave things as they are?"

A very large portion of our dues go to housekeeping. One reason we get "a deal" with DVC is that we do not pay the same for *full* housekeeping as you'd get in a hotel.

I say leave the bedding as it is.

Wow that's good news to me. Guess the MF will be higher for that, but I do love a comfy/clean bed & linens.

I would be in favor of an "everything washed" policy. Whenever I'm in a hotel room I have to stop myself from thinking about the blankets, bedspread and the pillows! And I'm not a germaphobe or anything similar by any stretch of the imagination. Just happend to see a tv special about bedding. It made me throw out my own pillows!!!! :lmao:

Maybe in Europe you get a "clean" duvet cover, if you think that's what you are getting in America...:lmao: If they have stains and look dirty they get changed.....

I perfer the duvets just because the are "softer" and nicer, but "cleaner":lmao:

I use the european-style duvet here at home and it gets washed weekly just as sheets would.

I too voted for all clean, but it may be too expensive to implement, so I think if I ever convince DH to buy into DVC (Jan 2009 is looking good), then I'll get an Owner's Locker and bring my own bedding. You can space bag a feather duvet down to a pretty small bag and I would prefer my own pillows as well.

Can ya'll speaka da englisha? LOL

I don't know anything about any duveys or whatever but I am appalled to learn that ANY part of the hotel bedding is not washed between guests. You're kidding me, right? :(

Please explain to us country folk that don't know any better.

We remove the bedspreads.
But the blankets are not washed????
:scared1:
Please say it isn't so!

We remove the bedspread, too, and you can ask housekeeping for a clean blanket. Presto, a clean bed. Probably better than a duvet would be. And cheaper than a resort-wide duvet upgrade. (We own at BWV and I'd rather get flat screen TVs than hike fees for new duvets.)

I do not really care what color or print the linens are but I do wish everything was cleaned between guests.

I don't know about the WDW resorts, but when we were at The Grand Californian, they were removing bedspreads from the rooms when they serviced them. I saw several in the housekeeping carts when I left my room each day.

They are washed on a schedule, like every 8 weeks. Not between each guest.

When we stayed at SSR last month we didn't have any bedding for the pull-out sofa, which really made me worry that the sheets on the bed might not be clean. Just kind of icky. But most hotels are that way, so it is kind of icky at the Poly, too!

While I agree the idea of uncleaned bed linens is yucky, has anyone ever caught anything or died from it? Probably not. :confused3

Wait ... the bedspreads aren't changed? So if someone does something nasty on them ... the next guest gets to wallow in that nastiness?
