Do you wear a poncho on water rides?

I have never worn a poncho on a water ride and I don’t plan on wearing one. I just don’t see the appeal. Splash Mountain is a different story because of the Br'er Patch theme. I can understand wanting to see that without getting wet. By why do some people want to ride something like Kali River Rapids with a poncho?

To me, it’s like a game. “Who will get the wettest? Can I make it through without getting soaked?” In my mind, wearing a poncho on a water ride is like getting on a roller coaster and saying “I don’t like fast movement. Can I just sit here while you blow wind in my face?”

DW and I were beginning to wonder if we were the only one's who thought like this. :rotfl: I gotta totally agree with you. We don't like to wear a poncho on the water rides either. The whole point on going on the water ride is to get SOAKING WET. We try and wear clothes that will dry quick on the days we know we'll be going on water rides. Given the humidity in Florida, sometimes easier said than done. We usually like to rent a locker and will take along a change of clothes and shoes for just in case.

Just like you, we like to think of it as a game. Will I get totally soaked this time? Will I not? But on the extra hot days, it just feels so good to help beat the heat.

LOL Too funny.

I have never understood seeing those people who wear the ponchos. The point of a water ride is to get wet. It is like waiting in line for over an hour on Space Mountain and then not getting on the ride.

I'd love to hear from someone who DOES wear them. To hear any possible reason why. Cause for the life of me, I can't figure it out.

We tend to mock the people with the ponchos. I mean, what's the point?

I always want to get wet and pretty much always wind up dry. Who gets the big waves? The poncho people!

I don't really understand it either. I want to tell them off and say go ride something else so the people who want to get wet don't have to wait longer for them to be sissies about it.

Like PP said, I cringe whenever someone with a poncho goes on KRR because THEY are the ones at the bottom of the raft when it goes down the hill

OT: If you're alone in a raft at KRR, there's not enough weight to get wet at the bottom of the hill. I went on alone 3x in a row and luckily was at the bottom of the raft going down but didn't get wet once :mad::mad:

Lesson learned, there needs to be enough weight in the raft itself to make a big splash.

I think it would depend on the time of the year....if it is chilly out then I can understand people not wanting to get soaked down to their undies on Kali River, then having to walk around all day.
BUT...I will NEVER understand the people who put on ponchos this past June, around noon, on Kali River, when the heat index was 120 degrees. Honestly, getting soaked was the ONLY thing that got us through the rest of the day there!

Kali River Rapids only. Splash Mountain no. I'm not concerned about the mocking on KRR. I don't really care about being getting thuroughly soaked while at the park.

I don´t get it either. Why get on a water ride if you dont wanna get wet?!

It's like dipping a turkey leg on my dole whip.

Well alrighty then. I wore a poncho my first time on Kali because we rode early in the day and we didn't want to trudge through the park soaking wet, it was December and not the warmest day. Also we did not have the foresight to take a change of clothes along. I would never wear a poncho on Splash, however.

We're one of the people that wear ponchos! If it's summer sure it's HOT but it's also humid, which means your clothes are not going to dry quickly, which means uncomfortable. Going into air conditioned rides while wet isn't the most comfortable. In cooler months, obviously we don't want to walk around wet and cold. We don't go on the ride to get wet, we go on for the ride. (Even though Kali isn't much of a ride IMO). I also HATE my hair getting wrecked from water dumping on you.

I always wear a ponch on Kali. Just because it is a "water ride" doesn't mean I have to enjoy getting soaked. And I don't care one bit that some people don't agree.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

We wear them because our last couple of trips were in Jan/Feb and it was freezing (literally). If we were there when it was hot, I would be loving it without a poncho.

Wow, lots of judgement going on here.:confused3

If people want to experience the ride without walking around soaked all day, so be it - why do you care?
We were at six flags one HOT August day, rode flume to cool off, then walked around all day in wet, disgusting clothes. Rashes - ugh, who wants that?

two words rubbed raw!! love the ride but don't like being wet and walking around..We love the cat calls from the people in line..

We tried to wear one on KRR to stay dry...totally pointless. We got stuck in THOSE seats. You know, the ones where regardless of what you do you get completely drenched. It was awful!

We did wear them on Splash few times (especially in the winter). We got mocked by some little kid, which I thought was hilarious. We stayed dry and that little dude got soaked by the water canon! :lmao:

:) I agree with the previous poster....can you say fire engine inner thighs and bald head because you have thinning short blonde hair and getting it wet makes it look awful....and this ain't my husband we are talking about!:rolleyes1

Because the grandkids want to ride, and they're not old enough to ride without adults.

Also, we like to ride to see who is going to get drenched and then say, "gosh, I wish I had worn a poncho too." ;)

We had no problem finding takers for our ponchos as we got off the ride either. There was almost a bidding war. A CM was selling them at the ride entrance so I see no shame whatsoever.

I agree, Who cares If some choose to wear a poncho. Live and let live and everyone will have a great time however they choose to ride:yay:
