Do you wear a poncho on water rides?

But seriously, part of riding water rides is to see who will get the wettest and praying that you don't get as wet as the others in your raft. Fantastic!

But you have to be prepared. If you go on water rides, you gotta make sure that you wear something that dries quickly and that you ride them during the heat of the day. But I wouldn't wear a poncho.

As a matter of fact, I was at another park (IOA) and I saw a group of muslim women going on a water ride where you are basically guaranteed to get soaked. They were fully-dressed in traditional female Islamic wear... with no ponchos! And yes... all of that fabric got completely soaked!

So if they can go without a poncho, I can certainly go without one.

Just wanted to point out that it is not required that we emulate someone who is doing something unintelligent.

I don't mind if people laugh at me for wearing a poncho(I've never actually seen that); I will be the one laughing when they are soaked to the bone(mostly in my head, since I try to be polite to strangers). Everytime I have gone on KRR or the Popeye water ride at Universal, someone riding with has said they wish they had worn a poncho.

Really, to each their own. I have an opinion on whether someone wears a seat belt or a bike helmet, but I really could care less if you like to get wet.

Do you really get that wet on Splash Mountain? I've never ridden it, not because of the water but because I'm gradually working on my fear of rides.

Yes, it’s just curiosity on my part. If it was raining at the park and I didn’t want to get wet, I would wear a poncho. However, I would never get on a water ride if I did not want to get wet, poncho or no poncho. I just wanted to know people’s motivation. I wanted to understand their point of view. I’m sorry if this thread offended anyone. It was not my intention.

Never say never. I'm guessing you don't have kids. My kids love KRR. I do not want to walk around with soaked clothes all day. We go in November/December, and it can be really chilly. Clothes do not dry fast on those days. I still go on for my kids who are too young to ride alone, but I will always wear a poncho.

Since I had my poncho "humiliation" (see post #56), I absolutely will not wear one. I now wear a speedo and bedazzled bathing cap when going on water rides, that way I can keep some semblance of dignity intact.

I wear a poncho cause walking around with wet pants rubbing my inner thighs together, wet shoes causing my feet to prune and blister and wet hair causing me to look like a skinned rat with hairspray and makeup running in my eyes is not my idea of a swell time!

Mock me all you want peeps. I'm sporting the poncho and will walk off the ride dry, pretty, and smiling!!!

I'm pretty cold-natured and from a warm climate. Unless it's in the 80s or warmer, I will be miserable walking around in wet clothes. Goosebumps and shivers. And some water rides are so well-themed that they aren't just about the experience of getting wet. I don't want to miss Splash Mountain just because it's a little cool out. So, yes, I often wear a poncho.

I definitely don't think Splash Mountain warrants a poncho, but I could see wearing one on Kali River Rapids during the colder months.

Once a young guy mocked us in the Splash line for putting on ponchos, with something like "oh, no, you're afraid you might get wet??!!"

I put on my very-serious-and-earnest expression and spoke in my very-patient-trying-to-explain-it-to-a-two-year-old voice and said something like, "Oh, no, we're not afraid of getting wet. You see, these yellow things are ponchos, and they will keep us from getting wet."

He didn't say anything after that.

Another vote for ponchos here, we enjoy KRR, but hate walking around in wet clothes, especially jeans.

I was born and raised in Florida...pretty much spent every summer in a lake or the gulf!! That being said.. I ALWAYS wear a poncho on water rides!! haha I just don't see the fun in getting soaking wet and having to walk around with wet uncomfortable clothes all day!! But when I was younger I could walk around soaking wet all day! I guess i'm just getting old!! My brother (12) LOVES to go on water rides and get as wet as possible...then about 30 minutes later he is whining about how uncomfortable he is! So now we try and ride the water rides right before it's time to leave, make him wear a poncho, or bring him a change of clothes!! I guess to each his own!! Plus I love my Disney poncho!! The best investment I ever made at the parks!!

It totally depends on your ride. We have ridden many times and not gotten wet at all. Then a few rides ago, I got absolutely soaked - my seat went directly under the waterfall type thing near the end. I was miserable - I just don't like walking around wet - especially if wearing a heavy material like jeans. Ever since that ride, I always wear a poncho even if I usually don't need it!
