I'm kind of a dud when it comes to newer IP...there's some movies I missed cuz I didn't have kids at the time they came out and I tend to rewatch the classics that are emotionally relevant to me, i.e., what I grew up with, or something my son loved (Tarzan, Lion King, Aladdin). But yesterday I watched Tangled for the first time and what a great story! I watched the show at Royal Theatre and met Rapunzel and Flynn after but couldn't really relate. I thought their show was hilarious though!

Recently, I watched all the Cars movies...man, I LOVED THEM! Now I can't wait to see CarsLand again with fresh eyes!

So,do any of you do this? What are your faves? Thoughts on how things have changed since movie came out? I'm curious to know if I am just a weirdo or if others do this too...

Also, do you prefer classic or newer films ?

And final thought...I met Elena but I still don't know where she came from...Disney Channel maybe?

Yes. We're watching the classics and more current movies that tie into the rides we're going on during our upcoming August trip. We're trying to go in chronological order. We've watched Snow White and Pinocchio so far. Fantasia is tonight. If the movie does not tie directly to a land or ride then we're passing over it like Cinderella.

I try to watch all the new Disney movies when they come out (I get the DVD's from the library). But I don't have little ones anymore (my baby is 32) so don't generally watch them over and over like we did when they were little.

Before my trip in December I did rewatch Encanto because of the show they were doing, Princess & the Frog because it would be the first time for Tiana's. There might have been a few others that I hadn't watched in awhile. I find I enjoy the shows and attractions more when I understand the back story.

Before I took my girls for the first time (way back in 1996) we watched all the classics so they had an idea of the story.

A quick google says it was a Disney Channel, then disney Jr channel, tv series of 3 seasons, cancelled in 2020.

I just don't find myself watching the new stuff unless it reaches some cultural milestone like Encanto did where everyone knows it. Quite enjoyed it when I finally watched it.

Yes we do!

This old school sing a long compilation isn't a movie but always gets me excited to go. I wish they would out these on Disney+
OMG...we had several of those on VHS when my son was little (33 now)...I LOVED THOSE...cuz I like all the music ohmigosh he used to dance along with the Snow White one where the dwarves are playing music and Dopey dances with Snow White...it was like Disney MTV! 😂🤣.

Disney MTV, I love it!

Elena is a Disney Jr character (and is 3rd in the Disney princess crushes I have, Moana being my #1).

I already watch a lot of Disney Channel premieres and occasionally veer there for the recent movies... in fact I watched Encanto both before and after I went to WDW and before Disneyland I remember seeing The Rise of Red a lot.

I just watched every single Star Wars movie (core 10) for the FIRST time!
I wanted to appreciate Galaxy’s Edge more and understand Rise of the Resistance

I’ve also been attracted to Star Wars merch as of late and my husband said I can’t buy it if I don’t “know” it.
Well now I do so…$$$$ 😬

Love it! DH and I are watching all the StarsWars FILMS in order...whew, getting through Episodes1-3was taxing but it helped me remember a lot of the origins of things. I couldn't even begin to watch all the "spin offs" although we did just watch Andor, which was OK.

NOW Avengers...that's a whole other ballgame! I've watched numerous times but I couldn't pay my DH to watch even one!

I’m doing the same. I may or may not have dozed off at times. 😬😆 But I agree about the ‘spin-offs’. I’ve watched them all, but re-watching them in relation to the movies starts to overwhelm me😂

We drive over 20 hours to Disneyland and some of the staples we do:
-Disneyland sing along (it's from the 80's but still so much fun)
-Cars
-Peter Pan
-Princess and the Frog
-Classics Mickey, Goofy, etc
-Alice, Snow white, Dumbo we sometimes do
Now that kids are getting older I guess we'll have to add:
-Guardians of the Galaxy
-Pirates of the Caribean
-Various Star Wars movies
-Spiderman

I watch Disney movies all the time, so I don't specifically do it to prep for a trip. I don't have kids, but I am up to speed, being a nerd and all. 😁 I have however assigned "homework" to people coming with me on a trip. Like, recently for a WDW trip, I told my parents they needed to watch Princess and the Frog, TRON/TRON Legacy, and the first Guardians of the Galaxy. They liked Guardians so much they watched all three and the Christmas special - and they are not Marvel folks! I do think it makes it more enjoyable to have a little context, though I can still enjoy rides without it. That's more of a Universal thing for me. 🙂

i love that you assign"homework"! AND I love that your folks got so into GOG...they are pretty funny! I love the Christmas special!

I watched PATF recently in anticipation of going on Tiana but I still haven't done it...usually I'm dressed too nice to want to get wet :rotfl2:

The rare moment when it's homework you WANT to do 🤣

I just watched Princess and the Frog last night and want to go NOW!!!!! Some of my best memories of my dad are he and I going to watch the latest Disney movies when he was home (he was a merchant marine)...we would drive hours to go. I always wished we could have gone to Disneyland together- he went several times when down in California for work and he loved it!

i watched it recently, too, thinking I would go on the attraction this summer and then I would at least know the story...loved it but the villain really was kinda scary....let's just say a Dr. Facilier LF backpack isnt in my future 🤣

There was a cast member dressed as Facilier when we took our goddaughter one year, he was really creepy and was a bit too interactive with her...my husband spoke to another cast member about him and the next thing we know he was gone. Just... YUCK!
