I always THINK about volunteering but never know where to start.
I swear I am normal, you would never know I was uncomfortable, people think I'm outgoing, but I am freaking out inside. LOL!!

I know Vicki. I swear she's normal too :rotfl2:
You're children are young, it will all come in time. I started out just helping in the classroom and library at school. I'm sure as they get older things will come your way and you will start wishing you never said YES! LOL

Strange question here. Do you need to be related to the school somehow to volunteer? I don't have children, but I have LOTS of clerical type skills I could offer. I don't particularly want to work with the children either. (Or would they wonder why I would want to be there?)

.

NO!! Do it, call you local school!
Our school just won the 5 star award for volunteering. One lady is up for a state award. She is an older women that takes three busses every day just to come to the school and help kids read. it's amazing!!
We use people to shelf books, file papers, staple, copy, sort, you name it!!
Wish you lived here.

my husband volunteers at a local animal clinic and i volunteer with easter seals & autism society of america.

We got married at the same place you did!!

Volunteered at my kids' school for 9+ years on the PTO board as secretary & president...

Continue to volunteer at my church as a Lector (and assistant lead), counting team captain (and assistant lead), Finance Council, Fiesta committee, occasional chaperone for the Life Teen weekend retreats.

I like to be involved. :)

We do a haunted house for a local non-profit organization. It is a lot of work but is also a lot of fun.

Both DW (Caropooh) and I are Girl Scout Leaders (some of the people I work with razz me about being a Girl Scout) and when DD12 was in 1st grade we were co-Treasurer for the PTA (not a good idea).
I spent 6 years on Church Council on various committees. DW was the ONLY parent to help out in DD7's Kindergarten classroom two years ago. The teacher very concerned when DW got a new job close to the end of the school year, but was relieved when she found out it DW ended up working nights.

Most recently we help out feeding the homeless once a month. Dw even went to get a Food Handlers Permit from the County so she can be the Cook-in-charge. The last two months she ran the whole show. Even the two DD's helped out.

The company I work for, REI, (I know, a shameless plug) encourages staff to volunteer for environmental and community causes and DW & I have worked many Service Projects in my 21 years with them. We have done trail renovation and building (including blowing up about 8 ton of boulder that blocked a trail) to flower planting and trash pick-up.

Thank you! You are too kind!

I did volunteer today to help with my church's Octoberfest..and with the Haunted House the Fire Dept is planning this year..so I am branching out!

Years ago I was heavily involved in PTA and was president of the grade school PTA where oldest DS went. After oldest DS was born, and before I started back to work full time, I volunteered for a few hours a week at a hospital nearby. Then I went back to work, had another child, went thru a divorce. I don't have enough time to volunteer that much now. But, youngest DS is now a part of the high school marching band so I am now a band booster! I am signed up to work all the home game concession stands and chaperone 2 of the away games. :)

TC :cool1:

I am a Room mother at DD's school and A Girl Scout leader... :)

I Volunteer as a Coach for JV Cheerleading for our local Township Rec Center and I also do volunteer work for our Township Football Boosters as the Vice President! :dance3:

I work with a political organization helping to garner support for HR 676 (a bill in the House of Representatives that would start Universal Health Care insurance coverage in the United States).

DH doesn't volunteer with an organization, but he does reduced-price and sometimes free computer tech work for people who don't have much money.

Yes.

I work on FIRST Robotics events.
I walk for Breast Cancer in October with Best Buy
I walk for JDRF.
I also do a lot of things with Alpha Phi Omega.

I volunteer with the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network where we rescue and rehabiltate dolphins and whales that strand on the beach.

I wish I had time to volunteer...but with a 1.5 - 2 hr commute each day, and working 9-15 hour days in the city, studying for the cpa exam...it's hard to find time to even take a shower!
