Central Homeless Shelter- Buy items and make sack lunches for overnight guests at the Homeless Shelter.

I volunteer at my kid's schools for all the different activities they have and at our church. I've even been on the school board and was the fund raising chairperson.

The best thing we do is volunteer as a family at our local Haunted House in October. It is sooooo much fun, we've been doing it for almost 15 years. It's the coolest ever, it's held in actual dungeons from an old military fort.

I do a lot of volunteering with events at our school, one of the biggest was organizing the high school band's trip to Disney last year. A lot of work and time went into this but it was so much fun and so rewarding watching the faces of many who had never been to WDW before. :thumbsup2

I did volunteer at a local animal shelter, but the lady who runs it is so...cold, it just does not create a pleasant atmosphere, which is a shame cause it really drives a lot of volunteers away. I'm there a lot less then I could be and am not as active with them as I once was.
There is another animal rescue organization which I have been helping out at their special events. They get a lot of people who were rubbed the wrong way by the cold lady at the forementioned shelter.

I'm also on my county republican committee. I was elected to it, but it's not paid and it eats up a lot of time (campaigning for canidates, making phone calls, attending special events, etc.) so I consider it volunteer.

Like many of you I volunteer at school. But when the kids get older, I intend to do more non-youth related volunteer work. I enjoy it.

I'm a Cub Scout leader (Lord help me) and I volunteer at church as well.

I volunteer at our local hospital. I greet visitors, show them around, answer questions, etc I also shred documents for the medical records office. And just recently, I have been volunteering in the gift shop - arranging merchandise, running the cash register, taking inventory, delivering flowers, etc
I love it! :thumbsup2

I volunteer in DS school library and in his classroom. I also help out with the cub scouts when DH needs an extra hand.

I do more than DW wants me to do - probably too much time away from home.

From Church - Habitat for Humanity each year, Youth work missions

I'm on the board of directors for our School's Performing Arts Association, the Local Youth Symphony, and two local Symphony Orchestras. I volunteer as an assistant and all around gopher and techie for the School's Performing Arts and the Youth Symphony.

Last year I did lots of work at littlest ds school, which is also our home church. He graduated and now I am totally bored here. I ran into a teacher and she asked me if she would see me this year. I told her how bored I was and was going to ask the principal if he needed help on projects and she said "oh we just had a teachers meeting and we talked about you and we all were wondering how we could bribe you to get you back here to help us etc.". I consider that a compliment. I know most moms have to work just to pay the tuition so I dont mind helping at all, so I guess I could help with the bake sales. My biggest projects are the christmas store and fall tag sale.
At church I help in the toddler nursery and now they have asked me to teach junior church, its only once every 2 months so its easy. I am also the secretary for the school council. That is once a month. If they ask me to do anything at the other ds school I will help there too. I was on some accredidation committee but I didnt like how they were organizing and running it.
I also do stuff like the toy drive, angel tree and samaritans purse at christmas time, but that is just donation stuff.

Past President of chamber of Commerce (in a different town last year) currently on board of directors for Chamber here.
Volunteer at different charity walk/runs (normally to sign up registrations)
3 years coaching little league and on little leauge executive (running sign ups, getting sponsors, equipment, fundraising etc...)
2 years on a tourism board (working a newsletters, public speaking etc)
2 years mentoring students doing start ups of small business (review business plan, provide options etc over the course of two to three months)
Review student business plans for a competion for scholarships
Sitting in a dunk tank for two hours to raise funds (that felt like a whole lot longer trust me), getting "jailed" to raise money for the kidney foundation

A bunch of other 1-3 hour stints on various events that don't stand out....

Weirdly enough never with my son's school....

When I was still in HS I was in a school club, in which we volunteered time and sometimes money to help underprivelaged children in a very poor section of Brooklyn. We'd host Halloween parties for them, buying them pumpkins we'd fill with candy and toys and providing food and entertainment (pinatas, face painting, etc.) We would also go visit them at their church/after-school program around Christmas time and have another party, helping them with their homework they'd have over break, buying them presents, helping serve food, and just playing with them all! It was sad that for some of these kids, it was all they'd be getting for the holiday. But they were still all well-behaved and dressed nicely (for the occasion!) I really loved being part of that club, and wish I had done it for all four years instead of two.

Also a friend of mine and myself once volunteered at an assisted living home. We were very excited about it but it did not work out the way we planned at all! Besides the fact we had to reassure everyone that we were not there because it was required by school; the workers looked at us being their as an excuse not to do their jobs! We helped in the kitchen, served food and snacks, cleaned up, set up... at some points it felt like they were getting paid to watch us work and almost expected us to know what should be done with their residents. Not everyone was like this of course, but for the most part they were. When we were finally done with that we got to sit with a very nice group of ladies and had a good talk with them all.

I'd like to volunteer more, I haven't even attempted in about a year and a half or so, but I just don't have the time now.

I volunteer with the local fire department. I do the fish fries (this year I was promoted to waiting tables and as you can see from my tag, they are the highlight of my week. LOL.) This weekend is the car cruise, so I will be working there.

The woman that I am supposed to work with this weekend told me that she wanted someone reliable and responsible working with her and if she wasn't working with people who aren't reliable or responsible, so she wanted me to work with her. My dad always says that all the fire fighters and the ladies auxillary think I am the "greatest thing since sliced bread."

Bet you can't guess what I do???

I volunteer for one of Houston's Golden Retriever rescue organizations! :cool1:

When my kids were in elementary school, I was on the PTA board and room/party Mom almost every year. When my kids moved on, I stopped helping out at school.

About 2 weeks ago, the Middle School PTA sent a list home of voluteer opportunities. I decided to chaperone the first dance next week. I can only imagine what this will entail. Since my DD is on ASB, she too will be working.

I'm a volunteer for RESOLVE. I talk to people who call the helpline for information or just to cry or yell. I figured if I had to be burdened with infertility, I can use my new knowledge to help others. Somehow, helping other people get through their journey, helps me get through mine.

My best friend and I go to a no kill animal shelter at least once a week to play with the animals for 3 hours.
It is run by this wonderful woman who is doing this completely on the side and putting a lot of her own money into it and she rarely has time to just sit and play with the dogs and cats so that is what we do :)

We (dh&I) volunteer by setting up fundraisers to pay college tuition for both engineering and veternarian students who would be unable to attend due to cost restraints.

The #1 priority are animals which we devote both time and money to ensure they have good homes whether its in this town or across the country.

At Christmas time we help set up disadvantaged families with non profit organizations to ensure that the families have food, clothes and toys.

I do LOTS of stuff for my children's school. Last year was on PTA board.
In times of need in our community I help our church with whatever they are doing to help fill that need (like worked in soup kitchen and handed out canned goods after Katrina), I help organize functions for our school and church, and when our fire department (where DH works) needs me help there also.

:rotfl: Also, does taking care of you MIL's dog count, ROFL! :rotfl:

I help at school with Christmas Shop, bookfair, hot lunch, treat days, fundraisers, dances. I am also team mom for DS's football team. I've done many hours in concessions stands for different sports.

I just figure the more involved they are and I am, the more trouble they will stay :goodvibes out of.
