Do you volunteer?

PTA vice-president here, plus, Room Mom, Box Tops for Education coordinator, Spring Festival Chairperson 4 years running and
Community association activity planner.

Can't imagine life without volunteering, it's good for the soul.

I volunteer at DD's school- do whatever they need me to do. I've done Picture Day, Book Fair, Christmas Shop, Room Mom, Field Day, and chaperoned for field trips. But the thing I like most is being part of the Mentoring program. We get to work with kids who need extra attention and help from adults- mostly, I just help with reading, math, ESL stuff, and just act as a "grownup friend" who pays attention to the kids.

I volunteer with the PTA in my daughters school and I also volunteeer for a local toy drive at Christmas time and throughout the year.

I love volunteering! I have done many things including; PTO Co-President, Box Tops & Hospitality Co-Chair, Book Fair, Field Day & May Fair volunteer, Class room party coordinator, Cub Scout Den Leader & Assistant Den Leader, Pack Secretary, Troop newsletter editor, & District Roundtable Commissioner, and I have spent many hours in the baseball concession stand. I also try to help with Girl Scouts & Youth Group when I can.

There are weeks that I'm at our schools every day. I'll be doing reading and math tutoring, helping in the classrooms, fundraisers, PTA, PHT, library, playground duty, and in general whatever they need.

Oh and now I'll be helping with Cub Scouts. I would like to help out 2 of our political canadites but I'm not sure I have the time.

I volunteer for the Jimmy Fund/Dana Farber Cancer Institute here in Boston. They treated my dearest friend who ultimately passed away 3 weeks after DS was born. She made all of us (group of friends) promise that we would help all the agencies that helped her during her last battle. I volunteer at fund raising events, and DH donates platelets every month.

I've tried volunteering with the PTO here in town, but they are not terribly accommodating to parents who work outside the home.

I have done a lot of volunteer work. For the past several years I have mostly done volunteer work at church and the kids' school chairing fundraisers, helping in the classrooms, etc. I have also been on the board for a Toys for Tots type program that I really enjoyed. I will be on the look out for things to do in our new town.

Yes, school volunteer checking in. I help out where ever and when ever they need me. I was at DS's school yesterday punching holes in papers for about two hours. Then I organized and stapled test together. Finally I had 1st graders practice reading their vocabulary words to me.

I mostly coach youth soccer for the local club and the middle school. I also work at a food distribution center when I have the extra time. I really enjoy both :thumbsup2 Remember God loves a cheerful giver :teeth:

I do a lot of things. Fundraisers for where my mom works (non profit). 4H community service. I've done everything from hand out awards at a baby show to get down on my knees and clean the basement windows of The Ronald McDonald House.

i volunteer doing fundraisers, walks, etc for my dads fire department..right now, were still in the middle of fundraising for the firefighter that was hurt in a car accident on the way to our fireman picnic

I currently volunteer in my church nursery every Sunday, and sing in the choir.

In the past, I was my son's den leader and the pack committee chairman and my daughter's girl scout leader.

When my kids were in school I volunteered as a room mother several years, a cub scout leader's assistant, many field trips, etc.

In church I was a Sunday school teacher, on various committees, and once was the leader of the women's group, also church treasurer a couple years.

I currently don't do any volunteer work, but once I am able to give up a few hours at work I've been thinking about doing some volunteer work in a nursing home. Maybe read to people who don't have great eyesight anymore, deliver mail to the rooms, visit with them, that kind of thing.

I volunteer mostly through church. I teach Sunday school and youth group. DH and I also help every year organize our largest fund raiser.

I do a lot of volunteering at the kids' school.

Denae

I do a lot of volunteer work at my DD's school. It's mostly fund raising but I'm also a class parent and help in the library.

Most of out PTA moms work outside of teh home, including myself. I work nights, which works out great.
I have so many jobs for moms that can't be at school during school hours. I'm surprised they can't use you. They don't know what they are missing out on!!
Donation commmittee is the easiest one to be on if you want something flexible.
I also have them clip box tops and soup labels.
Make posters
Sort flyers
Staple forms etc...

Oh that's sweet of you to say, thanks. In my little town 90% of the planning meetings for the PTO were held at 3:30 in the afternoon. I send in everything the teachers request, box tops, etc. Take part in all the fundraising, etc. And I know that what I've learned about fundraising from the Jimmy Fund would be really helpful.....

DS has moved up to the Middle School this year, and they have PTO meetings at NIGHT!!!! :cheer2: So hopefully, I'll be able to contribute more now.

As the director of volunteer services for a non-profit that serves the homeless in NYC, I want to send out a huge "THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!" to all those that volunteer. It's folks like you that allow those agencies to do the work they do. I thank God every day for the career path that I have followed over the past 5 years and one of the absolute key factors is because I get to be surrounded by so many great folks who are filled with enthusiasm, eagerness and hope.

Thank you!
