Do you use E-cigarettes in the park?

This is a very interesting topic to bring up.:thumbsup2 Not long ago my DH and I were talking about the possibility of opening up a small restaurant and this question actually came up. This was my opinion (and I am an ex-smoker). I told him I would NOT allow people to use the e-cigs in my establishment because I didn't want another customer across the room see someone "light up" and either complain about it or light up a real cigarette and say "well, they're smoking!" :headache:

I've not seen one up close, so I don't know how real they look (or not). I have also not seen one being used in any non smoking building in my neck of the woods. Not to say they haven't been, just saying I haven't seen one. I'm guessing that until these things become more public, I would say that I would only use them in a designated smoking area or in the privacy of my room. It's kind of a catch 22. It would be hard to make them more public if you can only use them in designated areas or in private.:confused3

I'm going to look into these things. Maybe I can get my Mom to switch! Then my Dad would quit complaining!!!:thumbsup2

I bought the Addison vapor start up kit because it's what was available in the smoke shop near me. Mine looks like a black pen. You don't really "light" them up. There's a rechargeable battery that screws onto another part that looks like a filter. When you take a puff on the E-cig, a blue light glows on the end of mine. I know.. it sounds weird.

There's a lot of E-cigs that look just like a cigarette, but you don't light then up either. There's also lots of other brands that are better than mine, but this one is doing it's job. I never dreamed that I could be a non-smoker so easily after 44 years of smoking!

Well, I did say that I've never seen one up close. I didn't know how they worked and that's why I said "light up". Thanks for the info though. I'm seriously wondering if my Mother, who has been a light smoker for most of her life (maybe half a pack a day), would be willing to switch.:goodvibes

i have never tried this. for those of you who "vape", what brand do you use?

i suppose these are going to sell like hotcakes, lol

I too an curious on the types/brands everyone is using. Thanks

If there is no rule specifically pertaining to e cigs, then you can bet they'll be showing up in all areas. It doesn't bother me but I know some people might have a smash down.

My husband's friends are all smokers. All minus one have converted to e-cigs. From a non-smokers perspective... there are the ones that light up red and do look like cigs from a distance. Although never in my life have I seen a black or silver cig.

To someone who is not informed: there is vapor coming out. It looks like smoke. It does not have to smell like smoke, but we have all been surrounded by smoking for a long time. People are going to react the same way.

I saw them in a mall kiosk last year for the first time. I love the idea. Husbands boss got a pipe and nicotine free flavors...just so that he can carry a pipe and 'vape'.

My husband's friends have all noticed a difference in their breathing patterns and all have commented on how they love the fact they don't smell.

They love the fact that the vapor comes out because it still feels like smoking. The can still attempt smoke rings.

The liquids come in all sorts of flavors and can be combined to taste like mint, black tea... and more.

They no longer have to go outside in the rain and cold weather to smoke but enjoy sitting in their break room.

I think it would take to long to try to explain it to every CM that would stop you and ask you to please move to the right areas. Maybe one day it will change when e-cigs become more popular.

What I find amusing when I use it, is the nonsmokers who immediately start coughing and waving their hands and swear the "cigarette" smoke is immediately making their "allergy" kick in.

Of course last week, I was in front of the airport and did have a real cigarette in my mouth. This woman started coughing violently and insisting my cigarette smoke was getting to her.

She turned a little red when I pointed out the cigarette WAS NOT LIT.

Seems Pavlov and his dog experiment was right, now it is see a cigarette and cough even if there is no smoke!

This must have been hilarious! Yes on the Pavlov!

honestly I don't want my kids seeing people all over smoking them and thinking it is 'ok' to smoke these even though they know it is against the rules to smoke regular cigarettes (we live in NY and no one can smoke in any restaurant, bar, etc. so they do not currently see it in many places at all and are being taught that it is 'not nice' so that people aren't allowed to do it in front of other people).
:confused3 WOW...pretty strong statement.

Being from NY myself, I've seen people using them in restaurants, movie theatres, concert halls, NY amusement parks, malls, the list goes on and on. If they don't hurt anyone, more power to them.

I did see someone using an e-cig in Disney two weeks ago but he was in a DS section - but everyone else in his party was smoking real cigarettes.

I really don't care if people use these or e-cigs. But I think they should be confined to smoking areas for two reasons:
1) To prevent all the meltdowns and arguments that will almost certainly ensue;
and:
2) There are still some unknowns with them and their use.

Happy puffing/vaping/etc.

I'm using a Joye eGo. It's an awesome piece of equipment. So far I've gotten my juices from VaporBomb and FreedomsmokeUSA. And they have been very good. Juices are hard to figure out at first. I smoked for 34 years and just knew my juice would have to taste like a cigarette if I wanted to quit. Turned out I was wrong. I so much prefer the sweet and fruity flavors to the tobacco flavors. So, I'd recommend buying an assortment of sample sizes from different vendors until you find the ones that do it for you.

There's a great forum out there for people interested in e-cigs with a lot of good hearted people willing to help newbies out. Is it against the rules to post a link to another forum?

I bought some e-cigs or the other half.. Hes been a long time smoker and i figured this was a good compromise from him wanting to smoke and me wanting him to quite..

Anyways the brand i got was blu cigs.. they look like a real cig, a little heavier, and even come with a battery pack that looks like a cig certain, which holds the batteries and the cartridges..

http://www.blucigs.com/

the other half actually "smoked" less with these then real cigs.. He said that one or two hits filled the need and would stop since he didn't need to smoke the whole thing.. The only issue is now that hes stressed he went back to reals cigs for a while.. (as i walk to the closet to get the bat :) ... JK)

Oh BTW.. as a non-smoker i can pick up on the smell quickly.. To be honest he has sat next to me smoking this thing and i smell nothing. From reviews though i have heard some brands do have a "smell" to them.

Anyways.. I called WD. I was told by the CM that since they where not a tobacco product he would not be restricted to the smoking areas. She did however gently suggest that he still might use it in those areas for the sake of the other guests.. But he would not be sanctioned by a CM if he didn't

I would say its cool since its being asked for.. Your not spamming.. But that is jut my opinion..

The problem with that is that it would be very hard to "confine" a vaper anywhere. I'm quite adept at stealth vaping. I could stand right next to you and vape and you'd never realize it. Really. I'd just be a woman standing beside you chewing on a pen in her mouth.

Oh - I hope not. Does anyone know what WDW's smoking 'rules' are and if these are included (do the rules exclude only traditional cigarettes or all)? I hope these don't start popping up around the parks. Don't get me wrong - I'm happy they're available for smokers and like that there is a healthier alternative for them, but I personally think they should remain in the smoking areas. While they are healthy-er, they are by no means healthy and honestly I don't want my kids seeing people all over smoking them and thinking it is 'ok' to smoke these even though they know it is against the rules to smoke regular cigarettes (we live in NY and no one can smoke in any restaurant, bar, etc. so they do not currently see it in many places at all and are being taught that it is 'not nice' so that people aren't allowed to do it in front of other people). Honestly I want them to have this same opinion of e-cigs too. I've already heard my 8 year old say (during a TV commercial) that they are 'healthy' cigarettes, which I quickly attempted to correct that way of thinking...of course, the commercials do make it sound so nice...it's hard to compete with that.

A rather narrow minded approach. You should not engage in sexual acts in front of other people, but would you tell your children that they are"not nice."

Your children will see many, many things in the world which you would not want them to do. Also, people are allowed to smoke in front of other people, evne in NY, just not inside public buildings, so you are giving them incorrect information. It would be for you to explain the right/wrong to them and not expect others to hide from them and conform to your standards. In the end, your children will decide all for themselves once they hit a certain age.

Now I'm the confused one...Not sure what about my statement could be considered strong...

I'm guessing that we call all agree (smokers and non-smokers alike) that we don't want to influence children toward wanting to smoke or that it is 'healthy' to smoke. Most smokers I know either want to quit, have tried or wish they never started. So I am sure they would pass that wisdom (not to start) onto kids today. That's my only fear - that kids might see the e-cigs and think they are safe and think they are OK to smoke.

Not trying for anything stronger than that.

One of my favorites I'm using now makes me smell like cinnamon Red Hot candies. That's the only one I've run across so far that leaves an odor on me. But hey, it's a candy odor and not a smoke odor.:goodvibes

I will agree my mind is very narrow on this topic as I do not want my kids to smoke - no gray area - just not to smoke. Obviously, I want them to be healthy. And if someone was having sex in public, yes this too I would hope to avoid and would definitely be indicating that it was 'not nice' to do so or a 'bad choice' that the people made. Thinking that's apples and oranges though. As the sex in public would be against the law but I am unsure if smoking e-cigs in the WDW parks outside of smoking areas is actually against the rules or not.

I guess from the perspective that smoking is not allowed inside public places around us my own parenting has been reinforced to my kids - that smoking is not a choice that is healthy for people to have around them. I never meant that smokers are not nice people. My kids have family members who smoke so they know that is not the case. Just the smoking itself is not nice. But maybe I'm making a bad assumption that all smokers would agree that we want to steer kids away from starting it up in the first place.

Luckily in my area, e-cigs are not popular as I have seen very few of them being used. Hopefully by the time they are more popular my kids will be old enough that it won't matter anyway.

I've just recently become a convert to these. I'm curious if anyone here is using e-cigs and what's been the reaction to them in the parks? I know for sure the next trip I take I'm going to thoroughly enjoy being able to kick back in the resort room and vape away.:thumbsup2

Just wondering if anyone had any experience using them in the parks?

There seems to be a drift away from the OP's question, into a moral debate. It would be nice if those who have experience with e-cigs in the park would post before the thread gets closed.
