Do you use E-cigarettes in the park?

I'm guessing that we call all agree (smokers and non-smokers alike) that we don't want to influence children toward wanting to smoke or that it is 'healthy' to smoke. Most smokers I know either want to quit, have tried or wish they never started. So I am sure they would pass that wisdom (not to start) onto kids today. That's my only fear - that kids might see the e-cigs and think they are safe and think they are OK to smoke.

Not trying for anything stronger than that.

Of course no one wants a child to think it's OK to smoke. Maybe if you ever run into someone out in public using an ecig you could turn that into a teachable moment for your children against cigarettes. Something along the lines of "That person knows they made a big mistake when they started smoking, so they're using that device to help them stop and then they won't need it anymore."

I have smoked my e-cig at Disney and Universal many times, and I generally do not confine it to the smoking area . The other day I puffed it a couple times while waiting for the parade.

People are curious, and ask me questions about it sometimes, but I have never had anyone ask me to stop using it.

Using e-cigs anywhere in a public area is an unknown health risk. The vapor can not be confined and therefore second hand vapor escapes from the lungs of the users. What a joy it is for others to breathe an unknown chemical against their will. I bet the second hand nicotine vapor is a welcome addition to the parks.

You inhale unknown chemicals everyday willingly or not.

would someone mind pm'ing me with details on your experience with the e ciggarette, I'm trying to get my dh to quit and think this might help.

I know! People just need to get over it. The DW bus puts out more chemicals and carcinogens then real cigarettes, let alone water vapor from an E-cigarette.

Besides, according to some on the Transportation board we are all going to die from radiation exposure from the full body scanners at MCO, so might as well have a last puff first!

I'm not really taking a side here -- I think we all need to make room for each other in a way that everyone (except for the extremists on both sides) can accept... but this isn't really a very good argument in favor of it. Being exposed to dangerous/unknown chemicals everyday doesn't really mean anyone should just give up an accept any chemical thrown their way.

I was there September and did not see one person smoking an E cigarette. I actually brought one but only smoked it in the room.

Clean air is better IMO. Why pollute the air with additional unkinown chemicals? Direct inhalation of water vapor is not healthy for most people. Why should other people be exposed to more pollution?

It is water vapor, no unknown or harmful chemicals. Nicotine is absorbed into the smoker's body, not released.

Also, though the nicotine is addictive, it is not the nicotine that is supposed to cause health issues in second hand smoke, but the other chemicals in cigarettes which do not exist in E cigarettes.

"M'am, any last requests before we invade your privacy and do a naked scan?"
"Umm yes, I'd like an e cig please."

Not true. The absorbtion rate varies. Many smokers have lung problems that decrease their ability to absorb nicotine. They need to smoke more to get their "fix" because thier lungs are damaged. They exhale a lot more "junk".
Also, it's not just water vapor. The smoke you see is caused by the propylene glycol in the "juice". I do not desire to inhale propylene glycol.

Did you notice all the "mays" in that article? The products used in the juices for the cartridges have been in use for a long time in other products in the US. Asthma inhalers, IV medications, food, cosmetics, lotions, air freshners and fog machines to name a few. There are other articles out there that refute the FDA if you're interested.

I'm wondering if the government is more worried about the tax loss from people not buying cigarettes which have proven health risks?

Ya also gotta wonder if the tobacco industry isn't behind some of the government reports.

At this point in time, I'm keeping my mind open. And my airways to boot.

I agree with this!! I'm really interested in these e-cigs for my DH. Can you PM me the link to the other forum? We are going to the mall to check them out but I'm not sure which one is best for him? Or how you even figure that out? I'm an ex-smoker and always used to say I wish they'd come out with a cigarette that didn't hurt anyone because I loved the habit of it and still miss that all the time. I would be ecstatic if my DH can switch to these,

Don't buy it at the mall until you read up and know what you're getting and what you need. I'll PM you the link right now so you can read and make an informed choice. I think your hubby would have a very good chance of getting off the analogs. It worked for me after 34 years of smoking.:goodvibes

Then I hope you never develop asthma, because it's in asthma inhalers. And I really hope you never need IV medications because it's found in some of those too.

Oh, you might want to avoid any of the shows at Disney that have fog or smoke effects, cause it's in there too.

Oh dear, I forgot toothpaste......

Indeed that is correct. The use of these products would be of my own choice. Are you suggesting that an e-cig user has a "right" to use their device next to me in a public place?

Are you suggesting pg is only a problem if it's in something you personally don't use? It can't be both ways. It can't be OK for your toothpaste but not OK for my e-cig. I just feel like your having a knee-jerk reaction to something that you're not familiar with and that's OK. It's a normal human response.

These devices are relatively new to the market and the health risks are still unknown. Studies are currently being conducted. If you (or anyone else) desire to experiment with these devices, you are free to do so. I do not desire to be included in your experimentation. The studies may prove that these devices are perfectly safe for the users and for the public at large. I hope that is the case. However, I don’t wish to take any risks on your behalf. These devices are unregulated and the ingredients are not subject to inspection to insure that they are healthy and safe.

Lord help us all if we rely on the government to make sure something is regulated and safe. Hopefully you'll never run into anyone using one so you won't be subjected to any undue risks. And I'm not being facetious. I mean that sincerely.:goodvibes

I tried the e-cigs and in the parks had no issue with them. but since my dw would not really give them a try, I could not resist the temptation of the real thing. Yes we stick to the designated areas.

The vapor the ecigs is not dangerous. Anyone that has gone into a haunted house with a fog machine.. then you have inhaled much much larger quantities.

I believe from my reading disney policy encourages vaping in designated areas but as long as you are not doing it in queue lines (crowded areas) you should be fine.
Suggestions:
1. Get a eCig that looks less like a tradition cigerate. Blue Cigs (black and blue led are nice). This can prevent a decent amount of reactions.
2. Make sure an use a flavor other then traditional or menthol. People are use to these smell and can produce the same allergic reactions.
3. Be reasonable and do not vap right into another's face =)
