Do you tip when you're staying at DVC on your points & only get trash & tidy?

Hey MG good idea we also make sure the room is spotless before we leave when checking out. We vaccum was the table and all dishes and make sure everything is put away and even strip all the bedding so they don't have to do it. We even clean the inside of the fridge just in case we have spilled anything in it while we were there. We have even on occasion washed the bedding leaving and left them a note to tell them it was in the dryer.

I tip on T&T and check out day (when not staying for a full cleaning.) However, I am going to have to sneak the tips from now back into the villa. DFIL who owns his own points but always goes with us, just realized that his annual dues covers mousekeeping. He said we shouldn't be tipping a thing. I tried to explain that it covers more than just their wages which may not be very much, and they work in the service industry. He isn't buying it and says he already pays too much.

I have to do the same thing with my Dad. He is a great guy and very generous with his family, but not a great tipper. So I always leave the room last and the table last. A bit old fashioned, he figures XX is enough even though it is not the right percentage. You gotta love the guy!

Mousekeeping Works very hard and makes very little.. Even if we don't have any type of service during our stay we still tip when we leave. Because even if the villa is clean for me and you, Mousekeeing still needs to clean it again to comply with health issues (bathrooms, kitchen) and all linens get changed out plus additional general cleaning. That's alot of work and they deserve a couple of bucks!!

We always tip for T & T and Full Cleaning, actually we tip for almost everything. As some one else said, it is in the Disney spirit.....makes us feel like we are somehow sharing.......

So glad to hear that others feel there is an unfair disparity between the tipping customs for baggage handling and cleaning. While I realize that tipping mousekeeping is TOTALLY voluntary, here's a big cheer for those of you who acknowledge the hard work of mousekeepers by leaving tips. Hip! Hip! Hooray!

I leave a tip no matter what.

I also tend to overtip when we eat out to.

Why?

1. You ever worked for the public? (in the service industry). I have and more times then not it sucks. Not all people understand the BS that people have to put up with. If I can make up for some ******* being a jerk by leaving a few extra bucks, I am glad to do it and it helps me sleep better at night.

2. Ever had a bad day and was walking down the street and maybe found a penny or dime on the street? Remember how it kind of made your day (see a penny pick it up, for the day you will have good luck). Same thing with leaving a few bucks for Mousekeeping.

3. Last and least. When people know you tip well, watch how quickly your "needs" will attended.

DH thought we should leave a tip for the housekeeper when we left. I wasn't sure if this was necessary or not.

To answer the OP: No a tip is not necessary....as some have stated, housekeeping in not considered a tipped postion by Disney; and that is noted in the info you receive when checking in. And those who think bellhops make more base pay than housekeeping workers are living in fantasy land. Anyone in a job considered a tipped postion is making less than minimum wage; hence the assumption that tips will bring their pay up to that level, or more. As noted above, leaving a tip for housekeeping is up to the guest; but it's not necessary by any means. Come to think of it, no tip is necessary, but some are customary..

On our last trip we did not tip for T&T simply because we took the trash out everyday and all the Mousekeeper did was replace the towels. At the end of the trip we tipped a minimal amount.

On our previous trip when we paid cash and had service everyday we tipped everyday. Of course the Mousekeepers were making our beds, changing towels, and cleaning on a daily basis. Plus they left extra soaps/shampoos and made towel animals (ie they went above and beyond the call of duty). I believe a tip is for extraordinary service when a position is fully paid, such as Mousekeeping.

We ALWAYS tip. Those gals work hard and women usually get the short end of the stick when it comes to being appreciated for housekeeping/cleaning. We usually give $5.00 on trash and towel and depending on the size unit we leave $10.00 to $15.00 for checkout day. I want DVCer's to be thought of as a "class act" or the cream of the crop, so I wouldn't think of not tipping the maids. I want my 2nd home to be taken care of well and what better way to ensure that - appreciate the maids like my family appreciates what I do for them in our own home

I left a tip on trash and towel on the kitchen divider wall, right on the corner and the mousekeeper didn't even take it. So when we checked out I was sure to write a thank you note with the money, so they would be sure it was theirs.

Note to Charles TD- Please don't put the bed linens in the washing machine yourself. All bed linens and towels are shipped out to a central laundry facility and are washed and laundered and returned via laundry carts. You are not doing mousekeeping any favors by making them lug wet sheets out of the washer that can't be used. It's nice of you to want to be extra clean, and if you want to strip the beds, more power to you, but don't put them in the unit washing machine.

I know a lot of people in positions to be tipped and some of their stories about being stiffed are incredible. Therefore, I always over tip. I can't imagine why Disney considers Mousekeeping a non tipped position unless it's for tax purposes; I'm sure it's not because of how much they are paid.

I usually try to tip, but have forgotten on occasion We also tip at the end of the trip for the entire stay. I figured it was like at a restaurant, you tipped at the end of your service. What is the norm? Daily? or at the end of your stay?

We always pay for daily trash & towel service and we do tip every day. We also leave a larger tip at the end of the stay.

You can tell that the mousekeeping staff appreciates this by the number of extra towels they always leave!

I tip for T&T day and then before I leave, the same amount I would if I stayed at another resort but all in one lump sum (other resorts, I'd tip daily $1 per person).
