I am leaving AKV today and was wondering how many of you tip? I tip usually 6 dollars a day even if I stay less than 4 days. I know we pay annual dues and mousekeeping is included but to me a little extra never hurts. I am sure they will not remember who left the tip but it is the thought that counts.

Yes, I leave tips, but only count the days that mousekeeping does something in my room. For me, this is twice a week.

No, if they simply do their job. Yes if they do something extra which they often do. Disney does not consider Mousekeeping a tipped position. Ultimately the decision is yours but it is not expected.

Same here.

Yes, we tip but not THAT much! We leave something out for T & T day (all they do is take the trash & leave fresh towels) & again at the end of our stay. That one gets more as they actually have to CLEAN. But we only leave money for the days they come in. Why would you tip $6 for a day that they didn't visit your unit? :confused3 We make sure we empty the frig, pull the trash & put the towels together etc. so I am good with leaving $5 a pop.

Yes, we tip. Just DH and I and we tip $5 on full cleaning day for a studio, $10 for a one bedroom. We leave the same on check out day.
We usually leave the do not disturb sign out except for full cleaning day, because we prefer not to have anyone in our room.

I normally leave $20 at the end of a week's stay. Cleaning those rooms is like cleaning a whole house; it's a huge amount of work! I hope that it's a bit of inspiration to give the next person an extra-clean room....it's a pay it forward thing.

I usually leave something at the end of each stay especially if we're in a 2 bdrm for the same reason. Hoping to pay it forward. This last week, that 2 bdrm was spotless, my sil checked every room before we could mess anything up. When she's with us, she always leaves a little extra also for the same reason. I will say that those glass showers had not one spot on the glass doors, they were like show room bathrooms, literally sparkled.

If you tip the day you check out the person that is working may not be the person the was cleaning your room.

Same here. There has only been one time I tipped mousekeeping. One morning, I noticed my wicker chair was very dusty between the slats-the dust really showed the way the sunlight hit it. I showed a mousekeeper and suggested they check between guests. Well, she was so shocked for me! She offered to change my room (not necessary at all, I told her). She promised to fix it right that day, even though I told her that wasn't necessary either. When I returned to my room that night, not only were all the chairs spotless and smelling like Pledge, but my bed was made. So nice of her and deserving of a tip!

Since Mousekeeping is a contractual non tipped position we feel that it's not right to tip just because other people do. IMO tips should reward excellent service and to be honest with you, the condition of our rooms have not been excellent and getting a tip doesn't seem to get a better job done.

Reporting room problems to resort management and the DVC is the only way to increase the number of Mousekeepers which will allow them the time necessary to do their job correctly.

If you tip the day you check out the person that is working may not be the person the was cleaning your room.

But with DVC stays there IS NOBODY cleaning your room on a daily basis (unless you've paid extra for daily cleanings). They do not clean on T & T day. They take out the trash & leave clean towels. Period. That's why I leave a couple of bucks only on that day then leave a little more at check-out. So that the person who's actually cleaning the room gets the money. Anybody who cleans the toilet after my DH & DS are done with it deserves SOMETHING extra.:rotfl:

Of all the jobs at WDW, mousekeeping is one of ones that I would least like. I have seen the condition of some of the rooms when people leave. It is amazing to me that these low paying jobs even get filled. I always tip and if I get an exceptionally clean room when I check-in, I call to find out who cleaned it. I report my delight to the supervisor and ask to have the mousekeeper check with me so I can tip them. They show up in a New York minute, so I know that the tip is appreciated. I always tip for T&T and at check-out. If I were a mousekeeper I would like to have my services acknowledged. And I know that base wages are pitiful.

Actually Mousekeeping is one of the higher paid positions at WDW.

Jodi, we tip exactly the same way, and same amount.

Copied from Disney's website:
For many of our Guests, staying at one of the world famous Walt Disney World® Resort hotels is a dream come true.

Our Housekeeping Hosts and Hostesses help bring those dreams to life by creating special memories and a home-away-from-home experience for each of our Guests every day.

As a member of the Housekeeping team, responsibilities include, but are not limited to, overall cleaning of Guest rooms, including stripping and making beds, vacuuming and dusting and replenishing items such as linens, amenities and various supplies. Housekeeping Cast Members also interact with Guests daily, responding in a timely manner to their requests, assisting with directions and sharing information.

Housekeeping Hosts and Hostesses receive a starting rate of $8.35/hour.

Full-time, part-time and seasonal Cast Members at the Walt Disney World Resort may also be able to share in various aspects of the Disney Difference.

I would hate to see starting wages for other "non-tipped" positions if $8.35 an hour is one of the best paid positions.

We generally tip anyone who brings something to our room to include if we call for a blender or extra pillows. We tip on T&T day because they bring us towels and we leave a couple of dollars when we get a full cleaning, which is usually when we are staying in a studios, which is not alot to clean. My DH is very tidy and keeps everything picked up and makes the bed every day, so there's not much to do on full cleaning day. (I actually have to force my DH to not make the bed on full cleaning day, so that the sheets get changed -- he says he wants to make things tidy for the housekeeper!)
