Up until our last trip about a month ago, we left one big tip at the end of the trip. This past trip, we left a little bit each day. Not having to clean up after my husband and 3 kids is priceless! We were always stocked with extra towels, pillows, toiletries and towel animals to keep my kids happy!

We are DVC members and I leave a $5-10 tip at the end of our stay. When we leave the room be it on day four (trash and towel day) or at the end of the week, our room is clean. I put all the towels in the tub, wipe everything down in the kitchen, empty the dishwasher, wipe down the sink in the bathroom, empty the fridge when we leave, etc. I make the beds everyday - basically live like I live at home. It's a little different then when you're mousekeeping every day - at least that's my feeling.

We just got in tonight from Pop. I tipped w/decorated "Mousekeeping" envelopes several days in a row only to receive bare bones. The room was picked up, wiped down, beds were so/so (Do any of the resorts have fitted sheets?), the exact minimum # of towels/toiletries, and nary a single washcloth animal for the girls :sad1:

By no means am I a neurotic white glove inspector, but I was disappointed w/Pop in several areas. Decor was cute, and that's about the nicest thing I can say. But I'll be posting details on another thread.

We understand that this job is considered a non-tipped position and that their pay rate is thus higher than if it were a tipped position. So, we tip mousekeeping if they do something special for us. If all they are doing is their normal job, then we don't tip.

A couple of years ago at POP we put out a tip in an envelope clearly marked MOUSEKEEPING with lots of fun pictures on it. I had also inadvertently left my BlackBerry's charger plugged in the room.

When we got home, both arrived in the mail. The unopened envelope and the charger. On the next trip I asked about tipping at the Classic Hall and was told it was not necessary. On that trip we slipped the Mousekeeper a tip anyway, she was great.

We just got back today. We stayed at the AKL and had mediocre mousekeeping services. The beds were made and the trash emptied. That's it. I tipped $5 the first day, but when I saw that nothing else was touched, I stopped for the rest of the trip. We even came home to towels still on the bathroom floor (we put them there because of the little sign saying to hang them on the rack if you want to use them again, but place them on the floor if you'd like new ones). There were new towels on the rack, but the old towels were still on the floor in a wet mess.

We should have said something at the front desk, but we were always running to catch an early bus or hurrying back to the room in the evening to get the kids to bed.

the funny thing is when we go down to disney world we are so neat and clean that the maids actually leave us tips...$1-$5 a day in nifty homemade little envelopes...wonder where they get them from?????...it is pretty nice to feel so appreciated

Dh and I always tip $5 per day. We leave it on the bed with a note for the housekeeper - sometimes they write notes back to us. :)

We just got back from the AKL yesterday.:sad2: We had envelopes made up $5 for every day. Our first room was horrible, but we didn't get in until 11:00 pm, so we decided to wait until the morning to say anything.

They were great and moved us right away. On the next day we forgot to leave tip, due to moving rooms and just forgetting about it. Anyway, the following day we left the tips for the 2 days $10. When we got home that day, they had all the stuffed animals set up in fun ways, the towels were in fancy designs, it was great. Then we left our standard $5/day after, and we saw none of that again.

It was almost like $5/day you get standard service, (must be expected), above that you get better service. We had 5 people in our room, and were only left 4 towels by mousekeeping. So we called for extra towels every night 6 of them. You would figure after ther 5th night of removing 10 towels, the math would tell you to leave more towels.

I am all for tipping people, but I think some people have taken it too far. I bartended for 10 years, and I always treated every customer the same. In fact some of my "bad" tippers were my best customers, just because they were nice, or entertaining. I always felt it would be hurting the company I worked for and also very selfish if I treated everyone on their tipping.

DH and I dont tip mousekeeping. For starters we never make a mess. All we need is just some fresh towels and maybe an extra roll of TP and we're good to go! 2nd of all they dont change the sheets at all each day. That I know of is true because I accidently dropped some chocolate on the sheet on a very small corner and after trying to wipe it up as much as possible, it was hardly noticable unless you looked for it and everyday we came back to the room, same sheets on the bed! :sad2: Im sorry but for the amount of dough we fork out each night on a hotel room, the least they could do is change the sheets every day. And finally, mousekeeping isnt a tipped position. I even wrote guest relations about it and they told me that mousekeeping isnt a tipped position and they arent supposed to accept tips. Well not in those exact words, but you get the point.

They don't change the sheets everyday unless you request it because they have put in place some "green" programs. The same is true with the towels they don't replace them unless they are on the floor.
IMHO there is no reason to punish mousekeeping because you feel you are paying too much to stay in the hotel. Do you not tip wait staff in the resort restaurants because you are spending too much money on your room?
Mousekeeping is very much a tipped position.....

No I do tip waiters. But my waiter at Boma has NOTHING to do with the mousekeeper in my room at AKL. The waiter doesnt clean my room. So asking me that question is not irrelevant. Oh and I think I would much rather listen to Disney themselves then to someone who claims that mousekeeping is a tipped position when in reality its not. If they clearly state that mousekeeping is NOT a tipped position, then its not a tipped position. Case closed.

I don't because MK make at least minimum wage--unlike waitstaff/bartenders, etc., who rely on tips to make up the majority of their income. We are GOOD tippers, too--at least 20% at restaurants (unless something awful happens). I don't look at MK any differently than the other workers at the resort. Should I tip the front desk? Or the person at a CS in the parks? What about the person maintaining the restrooms or the stroller rental?

JMO!

Sorry if this offends people, but I completely agree with you- house keeping is NOT a tipped position. What about the poor person at the parks who is sweeping up garbage ALL THE TIME off of the ground? Why doesnt everybody walk by and hand them two dollars? Thats a thank less job and I'm sure they do not make any more money than house keeping does, right? What is the diffence? After all, they are cleaning up after us, right?

I'm sure you didn't mean that how it sounded. If people picked up after themselves and put trash where it belonged, there would be a lot less of "cleaning up after us." We're DVC members, get towel and trash pickup on day four of our stay so our tips are small to mousekeeping. When we leave our room, basically all that needs to be done is sheets changed and bathroom cleaned. I'd be embarrassed to leave our room any other way.

Umm.... how did that sound? Those people who pick up and sweep up at the parks are definately cleaning up after everybody in the park that day- and doing a very good job at it by the way- those parks are pretty much spotless- we are also DVC members since 2006 and the price of the DVC as well as the monthly dues that we pay (which are not cheap) includes the housekeeping salary.

I agree with the last 3 PP. Mousekeeping is NOT a tipped position. Heck, we arent even supposed to tip the people who make our food at CS places. Whats next, we should tip them as well because they made our food? :confused3 Like the PP said. If everyone learned to throw away their stuff IN the trashcan, not next to it, not on top of it, not on a bench, not on the ground (geez how hard is it to place stuff in a trashcan? :confused3 ) their would be less clean up. And how hard is it to go to the bathroom in the toilet and not on the toilet? I swear I see that ALL the time here at home, especially at the mall :scared: Oh and dont get me started on NOT flushing the toilet. So while the mousekeeping may have to clean a few rooms, someone who cleans the park, has to go through an ENTIRE park. Which is A LOT more then a few rooms. Just IMHO.
