Just wondering if you tip Mousekeeping.

If not, why?

Hi! :goodvibes

We did last year (our first trip to "The World") but only left a substancial amount on the last day. In hindsight, more than likely we had different "Mousekeepers" and should have tipped daily versus all at once.

This year I have made tip envelopes up, and we will leave a daily tip. :) We will do so simply because it feels right for us.

However... WDW housekeeping is paid a decent wage and it is NOT considered a tipping position by Disney, therefore that might explain why those that do not tip choose not to! :confused3

Yes, but I do see it as voluntary and dont get angry at people who dont. We also thank the "mousekeepers" for their work when we see them. I want my daughter to appreciate what others do for her and not just look on it as her entitlement because we are staying at a resort. We are very appreciative of the work they do.

Before reading these boards, however, it never occurred to me that this was done in the US. i knew it was expected in other parts of the world. Now we tip most places we go to. It doesn't cost us much and it makes another person feel appreciated.

Not sure where you can find info on tipped positions...but

normally tipped positions are those where the pay is minimum wage, or lower,...ie. valet parkers, bell persons. Housekeeping at WDW is not in that
category...they make much more. I don't think they do it anymore, but
in the past Disney listed tipped positions in the literature guests recvd. when checking in---housekeeping wasn't on the list.

We do. That is one thing I love about a cruise, they tell you who to tip and what the standard rate is. I love it nice and easy.

Yeap,we Tip Eaveryday And Have Always Gotten Some Kind Of Washcloth Animal ...every Time!!!

Not having to clean up after my family while on vacation...well worth a tip each day!

We always tip. I think we do it because we're afraid to see the cleaning job each day if we don't. :confused3

Yup... but only a couple of bucks a day or so... Depending on how clean the room is. I also have been known to tip in origami'd money. LOL. I got lots of decoration when I did that.

We have on and off, all depends on differet things. Now we stay DVC for the most part. Seems whenever we've tip them, they act like we have two heads. So, I honestly don't think it is typical that they are.

And getting special things, like towel animals has never gone along with whether we tip or not. When we have tipped well, and daily, nothing! We have not tipped at all, and gotten stuff.

We just returned from Pop last week and tipped every day.
We did not get any towel animals much to my disappointment.

When we stayed at All Star Sports in 2001 we only tipped at the end of our stay and we got towel animals every day-- go figure!

Nope. Why? Because they're non-tipped employees.

The positions are classified when offered through Casting. At the hotels, bell staff, valets and restaurant servers are tipped positions. The rest (including housekeeping) are not.

I always tip.

What's a few bucks when you have the chance to make someone else's day a little better? I can only imagine how some of the rooms look like that they have to clean!:scared1:

We only tip some of the time. When I was there last April I thought that we were supposed to tip every day so we did. I even tidied up the room and put everything away so "mousekeeping" would have a very easy time cleaning, but on some of the days, it didn't look like anything had been cleaned at all. The trash wasn't even emptied. This went of on for 5 days. Finally, we got back to the room one afternoon just as our "mousekeeper" was leaving. She was a very nice young lady who didn't speak much English, but I was able to find out from her that she had a rotating schedule for room cleaning. I found out what days she was going to be cleaning our room, and made sure she got a nice tip for her efforts. We also thanked her person when ever we saw her.

So that's my 2 cents. We'll see what happens on our next trip. Maybe I'll tip everyday, and maybe I won't. We didn't get a towel animal from her either, but I don't really care as much about animals made out of towels as I care about having the trash emptied. She did arrange our stuffed animals in some really cute poses though - and that was appreciated!
