Do you think you look your actual age? (UPDATE p. 19, post 272)

Miranda Danda said:
I have just started appreciating it! I am 23, but most people think I am 16 or 17. I used to think, "I wanna look older!" but that has changed. I am around a lot of high school/middle school girls because I sub. sometimes. They think I am their age. :smooth: It has it's advantages. I promise :thumbsup2

When I was 23 people thought I was much younger as well! Enjoy it while you can, before you know it you'll be 45 like me and you'll be ignored on message boards! :rotfl2:

Awe! I am enjoying right now. I feel old now that I am happy when people tell me I look younger.

I always wonder when I see that "age defying" make-up. It says, "Will take 10-15 years off your appearance." I guess I can use it now if I want to look 8 :confused3

LOL! I don't use those age defying make-ups because I don't believe them!

There's only so much make up can do. If you want to really look good, you need to be airbrushed! pixiedust:

This reminded me of something that happened to me when I was about 18 or so. I was walking in the parking lot of a grocery store with my mom and this group of guys drives by and leans out the window and starts whistling and hollering at me (in a good way).

Mind you after high school I was very self conscious, always trying to look my best. I am 5'9" and back then weighed only 120-125 lbs., went to the tanning salon daily, wore miniskirts as they were in style then, etc. But I didn't like that kind of attention and I just turned the other way and ignored them. Besides I was with my mom for goodness sakes!!

Well, this adorable little old lady was loading her groceries into a car nearby and she says to me "Enjoy it while you can dear. It won't last forever."
Truer words were never spoken!!! :goodvibes

Fast forward 16 years, 4 kids, and ??? pounds later and the only ones yelling at me are my kids when they are hungry!!
Oh well, I have my memories. :teeth:

Yeah, I like to break the rules. I rarely wear anything but jeans, t-shirts & sweatshirts. However, I do NOT wear "mom jeans". I'm quite hip in my lowrise, bootcut gap jeans. (yeah, right)

(and besides, it got cold at night at WDW in October!)

Cindyluwho- You look great and I love your hair. As someone who had board stick hair all my life, what I would give for hair like that.

Okay, I own low rise jeans too - but the thing I hate is always have to look at the backside to make sure I'm not showing too much skin.

Awww - thanks!!! I haven't had my hair done yet - waiting for my tax return this week so I can go "all out"..

Photo Shop works well too. :teeth:

People seem to be really surprised when they hear how old I am. A lot of people think I'm younger than I am.

I think I look pretty young for my age. But then, I think my 94 year old Grandma looks pretty good too. I guess it's in the genes, or maybe I just feel young? So, how do I post a photo so you can tell me? oooh, I figured it out....sometimes I amaze myself! That's me below my girls. Whadya think? be honest now...
So are you gonna keep us wondering? :confused3 :teeth:

:teeth: I'm 45, just had a birthday a couple of weeks ago. I don't mind looking my age but I want to look "great for my age". Does that make sense? I met Janet Leigh about 8 years ago when she was in her early 70's. She was absolutely beautiful. She didn't look like she'd had any major surgery to look younger, she was dressed classy and age appropriate, was in excellent shape, she had a great smile and was just beautiful. I wanna be like that. I think it's important to dress age appropriately and up to date/stylish - NOT teenage trendy. I love MORE magazine, the fashion stuff, etc is amazing for gals over 40. Lots of ideas about makeup, fashion, hair.
BTW-yes, that's my natural hair. I didn't even have one gray hair until we opened our own business last year, now I have 8 of them

It's all relative in my case. If I'm at work, in a ponytail and no makeup taking care of 80 year olds, people think I'm not old enough to be a nurse. Then again, a lot of my patient's eyesight isn't that good.

If I'm out at a club where there are 20 year olds running around then I look around 25. Not quite my age, but definitely not their age, either.

But put me with DH at a restaurant on a Thursday night and I think I look near my age, and I'm 29.

Today, I'm tired, sore from lifting weights, and just got back from the dentist. I feel 80.

I really don't have wrinkles, and I still have chubby cheeks, and I dress trendily but appropriate for my age. DH does look a lot older than me, so I wonder if that skews people's opinions of my age.

I usually get guesses ranging from 24-27. I guess I should be grateful for small favors.

Cindyluwho,
You are gorgeous!!

And I have to agree with you about wanting to look good for your age.

So many people are talking about "looking younger." As another poster said, there are certain things that you can look at (hands, backs of arms, eyes) that are a dead giveaway. But all that doesn't matter. What matters is: do you keep your hair looking good, wear clothes that flatter you, stay current with styles (no more mom-jeans!!), keep yourself looking fresh. That's what I think makes people say "wow, she doesn't look her age!!"

I know just what you mean and I totally agree. I don't mind being my current age at all, no mater what my age is. You know the song "I 15 for min......" "I am 33 for a min" I love all the different ages and times in my life, but look forward to the next ones too as fondly as I might look back. My only issue with the song is you go from 33 to 45, for me that is quite a jump. Something tells me when I look back it will go pretty fast too.

But you are right, I turn 35 next month and I want to look like a good 35, not a warn out mama who sacrafices herself for her kids and feels bad about it. (Hence my I want to be a MIL* thread that got that word banned here about 6 months ago.) If anyone wonders what MIL* stands for it is slang for Hot mama, but a bit more funny. :lmao:

I must sound like a nut but all that attention I got just made me obsesed with how old I look. And am always hearing people refer to me as an old lady, my mom says im imagining it , but im not sure.

Im even supposed to have a nose job but dont for fear that it will make me look older somehow,
I wouldnt have ever thought to post this, but it just seemed that maybe it would be good to get this out.
Id post a pic but I still dont know how,,,,
I don't think you sound like a nut, but we are all aging no matter what. And while I think it's normal to want to look out best while we do that, there's no way to stop the process.

How you feel is so much more important. Health is the bottom line. If you don't have your health then you have nothing. I am starting to realize that as I get older. Health problems are creeping up that were never an issue before. And it won't matter if you look 25 if you feel 75, KWIM?

Also no matter how old I get, I never want to act old. I hope to keep a child like enthusiasm for life that will keep me acting young for years to come. Just relax and try to enjoy life and all it's changes. Thay's all we can really do.

I feel 75.... sometimes 95. ***sigh***
I know, which is why I want to feel good, rather than look good. Actually both would be nice, but if I had to choose.

I miss the freedom of being a teen-ager and not having to worry about getting enough sleep or eating the right things to ward off all these diferent cancers. At that age it was like you were invincible and nothing you did would matter. Now things are starting to catch up with me and if I don't get enough sleep I feel like I was hit by a truck, like now.

Not that I want to be a teen-ager again. No way!!
