Do you think WDW and hence DVC would ever be spun off?

I am not sure how profitable WDW and DVC are as part of the Disney Company empire but do you think they could ever be spun off (together) as a separate entity?

thanks

If the company was bought by another entity (such as Comcast), I could see them spinning off the parks. Comcast probably has more interest in ABC than running parks.

Companies acquire and divest business entities all the time. Sometimes companies even reinvent themselves by selling or spinning off their orignal core business.

Nobody can predict what will happen to The Walt Disney Company over the next four or five decades. But it's likely that The Walt Disney Company will look very different in the future — whether or not Comcast or another company merges with Disney.

What really matters is how WDW and DVC are run, not what corporation(s) they are part of.

I hope you don't think this thread would last on the DVC board very long.:(

I don't think it would happen(spun off) .......regarding your question.

Nick, I was just curious as to if the parks can stand by themselves - Disney does not break out the theme park resorts separately as a stand alone business

I do not expect it to last long at all given the patrol police :earseek:

thanks

Any company buying the Disney parks, either in the manner posed by a buyout like Comcast or if that company were to sell on the parks (unlikely IMHO given their potential) would know that the biggest part of their investment is buying the name, history and good customer relations. To ignore the premium that is earned by that "brand name " loyalty would prove to be a very costly error. Any company that ends up with the Disney parks is going to want to run them in a way that reflects their history in order to make the most money for them.

DVC's part in this has been much discussed, personally I think that in order to come up with a realistic price for DVC, any future buyer would have to tie up a huge amount of money for a long time. In effect any company buying DVC I at the moment would simply be buying the lease on the land (coming back on 2042) while they would have the administration of DVC to handle for the next 38 years. The big money from DVC is already sitting in Disney's pockets, the covenance means that the next tranche of major income will come in 2042. Disney could sell off DVC II as I believe that would be an item that would attract a buyer at a level that both parties could justify. But if that were the case, Disney could just as easily ( and much easier to "politically" justify to the shareholders) sell off land on the edge of WDW to a timeshare developer, for that developer to put into place their own plans.

I don't see separating the theme park business and movie business, they seem to help and serve each other. There's a tie into the Disney channel as well. I think they have a movie studio right on one of the theme park grounds with MGM studeos. I could see other things being separated, but those all seem pretty intertwined.

jaysue, haven't you learned from any of my posts?!? LOL ;) You'll either get flamed for dare thinking such things OR this thread will get moved............ You must think INSIDE the box. ;)

Well, my skewed perspective of the world leads me to think that if any media giant gobbles up DIS (the company), I could see them putting what we think of a 'Disney' into a subsidiary corp. with the Disney name and the bulk of the stuff Eisner bought to build his media empire would stay with the parent company. DVC, WDW, DL, DCl, the resort hotels, Disney Studios, et al work too synergistically to split otherwise.
