Do you think the Duggers are really saving money shopping at Aldis?

I think Jon and Kate are much less so because they often have company names covered, or the labels removed. I've seen some brands go by but not as many or as obvious as with the Duggars. On a repeat of J+K from Valentine's day she got Jon a gift card to "a popular coffee place," rather than saying the name.

I thoroughly enjoy both shows though! :)

I don't recognize brands and products being pitched on Jon and Kate as much, but they seem to be really lucky lately on landing trips! From day trips to zoos, Sesame Place, etc. to big vacations to Colorado, Disney and now Hawaii! Lucky them - I wish someone would pay for me and my measly 2 kiddos to fly to Hawaii. :rotfl: My kids can pitch "family fun" with the best of them!

I think they'd save a lot more money if they shopped at stores that sell contraceptives.

Well- I have six kids, not 18, but I find Aldis to be the best bet for a large family. I buy huge quantities, and I can't wait around for coupons- Our stockpile gets eaten too quickly. Plus its just easier to buy stuff by the case and not have to make a million brand choices. I do subscribe to a CSA for additional fresh local fruit and veggies.

We have 6 kids too (3 are now away at college), and have alway shopped Aldi's. The two stores nearest to us are new and kept very clean. You just can't beat the prices. My children have never been picky. Personally for me, time-wise, I rarely clip coupons or shop grocery sales. Just so much easier to go to Aldis. Also, the produce at the Aldi I shop at is fresher than the local grocery store.

For the things I buy, the quality is comparable. In fact, just like other "house brands", if you look at where they are manufactured/canned/packaged....they often come from the same places--just one gets name brand label and one gets a house brand. They do have some limited name brand goods...but they change weekly. Usually there are just a few options in brands...so your choices of brands are much more limited.

I have a question....Does aldi sell "name brand" type foods, like Campbells, Kraft, etc??? If not, are they comparable to the name brands? Thanks!

wow, it never ceases to amaze me that people feel the need to judge other people. Their decision to have that many kids is their own and they are not asking you to take care of them.

Now back on topic, yes I think that Aldi's save them money and I agree JimBob and Michelle have probably added up the numbers andfound that Aldi's come out cheaper for them.

I just can't find anything I like at Aldi's. We have a new one by us and I have tried it twice. The price of butter was cheap but it had no taste. I am sure alot tastes good, I must have gotten the wrong products.

Yes, but these kids do seem to have good values and all get along. I would never want 18 kids but they aren't on state assistance or anything. Some of their beliefs are different but the kids seem very well rounded and help with everything.

On topic our Aldis isn't bad. I went once and didn't like the food but if people like it or the sales are better than their local who cares where they shop.

I wonder if it would be better not to be buying their groceries from any retail store. With the large quantities they buy, it would probably be cheaper to get them wholesale from a foodservice broker, like Sisco or Kraft. Most of them will sell to smaller buyers (someone not as big as a restaurant or hospital).

They're buying cases at a time already, so it seems like that would save time & labor to open one large institutional size can/box, rather than buying many, many small 'family' size items.
