Do you think that closures are getting ridiculous?

We will be at Disney World in February and the number of rides closed seems to be very high. Some of the best rides are going be down. I know some are permanently closed and others are down for a long time but it just seems like there are a lot down. Slow time of year?

Close while we are there:

  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad: Closing January 6, 2025 until 2026
  • Astro Orbiter: Closing January 13, 2025 through summer 2025
  • Hall of Presidents: Closing from January 20, 2025 through TBA
  • Kali River Rapids: Closing January 6 through TBA, 2025
  • TriceraTop Spin: Closing January 13, 2025
  • Dino-Rama Area: Closing January 13, 2025
  • Gran Fiesta Tour: Closing on January 6, 2025, and reopening on March 15, 2025
I absolutely agree with you. Not sure what's up with the defenders, but it's too much especially once you add in Test Track.

It's only ridiculous when my favorite rides are closed.

LOL there is some truth in that.... upcoming late January trip, probably our last trip for a while, only doing 2 parks -- and one of them is the After Hours event at MK, I bit the bullet and bought tickets for my family of 5. Was like, "Man, this is pricey but BTMRR is my favorite ride at MK and it is great at night." Then a month after I bought the tickets they announce it's going down for refurb shortly before our arrival. That definitely rubbed me the wrong way even though I realize that it is overdue and was already delayed previously.

I can deal with the closures but it still annoys me. Worst part is these guests need to go somewhere else in the park making it feel busy. I wish they didn't close so many attractions at once. Poor planning/management is to blame.

I mean it's things that have to get done, due to annual refurbs or the expansions. Disney's thought is probably if Epic is going to eat into audiences a bit anyways, might as well do them now

The worst part is that then the rides that are open breakdown while you wait in line. Like ratatouille.

We plan to give WDW a break for the next few years during all the construction projects and closures. We plan to do DLR (actually a lot easier for us since we’re on the west coast). We also plan to do Tokyo DL and some DCL to get my Disney fix in.

Incompetent management would spread the closures out, competent management directs them when they can to slower crowd times. So, after the holidays the schedule kicks into high gear- very normal for WDW and DL. It’s not some new phenomenon.

Yes,yes I do! I feel like the max closed (ahead of time) should be one per (ridiculously pricey) park! When you plan multiple closures at once, and the stuff breaks along the way,it can be a really disappointing (and stupid pricey) theme park day!

You need to exclude the permanent and year-long closures from your gripe list. If an attraction is closed for a year+, it couldn't just be moved to a different part of the year. There really aren't that many short term closures in Feb, considering the amount of rides Disney has to maintain. And considering they try to avoid having short term closures over Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter.

With this many rides and attractions across 4 parks, this IS what spreading it out probably looks like. I'm sure once these refurbs are done, more will be announced. A few months back, Peter Pan was down for a quick refurb. As soon as it came back up, Jungle Cruise went down.

I’ll be shocked if you don’t find the same things happening at DLR and Tokyo DL too. Maintenance of attractions has to happen to keep them safe.

I hate to say it, but they NEED to close Haunted Mansion and fix it. We got stuck so many times this past trip, it took 30 minutes to get through the ride. Stopping and starting over and over.

I'd be willing to visit while it's closed if it meant it would be fixed.
You can't be sure that the reason for the stoppage is because of mechanical malfunction or because of loading someone with mobility issues. Sometimes loading people with mobility issues can take a bit of time.

I’ve seen complaints about how current rides need TLC, they’re getting them, and now we’re getting complaints about that. 🤷‍♂️

(i get it, timing is annoying and it doesn’t help with wait times)

No. The first stoppage was for about 15 minutes, then we would move ten feet, stop. Move ten feet, stop. People were counting out loud until we stopped again. It was bad. 😂

On the flipside, we rode Spaceship Earth all the way through without stopping which was a pleasant surprise!
I’m confused. Did the cast members tell you the ride was experiencing technical difficulties? How did you know it wasn’t stopping for guests transferring?

I really don't think it's that important at this point anymore.

I was just contributing an apparently unpopular opinion to a thread.
