I knew one person who did it for some gallbladder problems. She said it seemed to help, but didnt really know for sure, if the pain would of stopped on its own:confused3

I am "thinking" about it for my daily chronic headaches. The dr is trying me ona new prevenative, and told me to stop taking Motrin and Excedrin, but can still take my Imitrex when needed. She said Tylenol is ok as well..But for me, Tylenol does nothing for my pain. She thinks all the otc meds is causing my blood pressure to rise.Who knows..:confused3

They offer massage at my health club, and reflexology is one of them.

So I was just wondering if anybody did it, and what kind of results, good and bad???

If you're certain that your headaches aren't anything more serious, I would say - "What do you have to lose?" I'm not sure I would feel the same way about a gallbladder issue or some other serious health problems, but for those nasty headaches it's worth a shot..

If you decide to try it, let us know how it works out.. Best of luck! :goodvibes

As a chronic headache sufferer myself, I say GO for it! I doubt it will hurt you!

I take Toapamax as a prevenative (as well as for my epilepsy) and avoid pain meds (OTC) as much as possible. Any pain meds can cause rebound headaches which can be worse than the original headache. I can't do Imitrex due ot a heart condition, but can take Lorcet if it is REALLY bad.

Massage has helped me a bit...I have REALLY tight shoulders which causes my neck to tighten up and can lead to headaches, so massage for me, helps.

Good luck!

Yes, I do. DH has taken some courses and can make my back pain feel much better by pressing on my feet. It seems weird but it really works.

My step dd is an acupuncturist and I've found that that can really help with chronic pain, as well.

Look at it this way--it's not going to do any harm so why not give it a try?

Oh yes, rebound headaches.!! I always knew about them..but have had a terrible time with it the last 3-4 weeks. When I was at the dr on Wed, she said NO MORE MOTRIN OR EXCEDRIN... I did try Topamax several yrs ago and I hated it. I had such severe eye pain with it. It is not a common side effect, but it is a side effect. It almost made my headaches worse. I have chronic daily headaches, then add eye pain to it, it was just too much. As soon as I stopped taking Topomax the eye pain went away..
Now my daily prevenative is Prozac, who knew:confused3. She said some people find this relieves some of the daily headaches. Of course though, it doesnt work right away, its only been 2 days , and yes I am expecting miracles ;)
I am going to give them a call today about the reflexology, I figured it cant hurt, except my wallet;)

You could also try an Atlas Chiropractor. They don't do any cracking but a more gentle approach that can help migranes. maybe they can help you too.

Refelexology is such that while it may not help, there is nothing about it that can hurt or harm you. The worst case scenario is you'll feel exactly the same and maybe wasted a little money.

I have to say though, when I get a pedicure and they do a little foot massage thing, I do feel better...and they aren't professional reflexologists.

I made my appointment. This one particular lady is only there on Wednesdays, so I set it up for Wednesday morning .Like the above person said, it cant hurt and Im willing to try it. I think my husband will think I am crazy;)...;)

This is going to sound weird, so bear with me....but when I get a foot massage, my reflux (GERD) acts up. So, yes, I think things are connected. I hope it works for your headaches!!

Have always wanted to get reflexology done on me, but haven't yet.

I do know that other parts of the body are connected. There is a trigger point in your hand for headaches. Ther is also a spot on your shoulder that when worked will help relax a tight jaw. It is very bizarre. But our body is a system working together and not independent parts.

So while working a "trigger point" may no cure what ails you, it sometimes can make you feel better.

That is weird, isnt it? But..maybe not..There are sites on the internet where show you where the different parts of the body are on the bottom of your foot.

Well that will be great if I can feel better, even if its not a cure. I am tired of having the daily chronic, dull headaches, its very depressing to me.

There's a spot on the ankle that helps with cramping if any ladies suffer from those monthly.

Yes, I think it can help!

I've had it work to varying degrees.

For an example of how our bodies are wired together in ways people didn't realize.I thought I was getting carpel tunnel.

I happened to tell a friend who is a Swedish massage therapist as well as a licensed acupuncturist. He said, "I don't think it's carpel tunnel. Let me do a test." Instead of massaging at my wrist & hand, he grabbed the back of my neck, near the shoulder, and I yelled in pain! :crazy2: Then he poked a point in my mid back area. I yelled again. :crazy2:

He said, "Thought so! Nope, it' not carpel tunnel syndrome. You have been pressing and pinching these nerves here causing the pressure." Then he pressed & massaged a point below the elbow, then above my bicep, followed up to that neck point, and all the way down to that painful point in the back. The wrist & hand pain went away! :woohoo:

So, yes, the body is connected in very mysterious ways. :scratchin

I love getting reflexology done on my person. I have trouble de-stressing and sleeping. Every time I go in, I sleep like a baby (and not a colic-y one) for days on end.

I used to live next door to a massage therapist and when I had really bad headaches, she'd take pity on me and massage my face and the areas around my mouth and throat. I could feel the headache leaving and draining away.

(and I've also had a hot stone massage from someone else and I swear, I felt NOTHING and it did NOTHING to relax me). I think it is all in the skilled person you go to for sessions.

What exactly did they do for this? And is it very expensive? How long does it work for? I have to take medication to get to sleep (otherwise my mind races like crazy) - a problem I've had since my DH passed away in 2005 - and I would LOVE to get a decent nights sleep again - without medication..

Do I look under "massage therapy" in the phone book? How do I find someone reliable? Anything in particular that I should look for?

Thanks! :goodvibes

I have found reflexology sevices at massage places and spas.
I typically find them at places with multiple therapists and one of them Is usually trained in reflexology. For those, it is usually a 30 minute treatment that cost a little less than a standard massage. (which for my florida address is about $40 roughly for reflexology.)

I've also seen private massage therapists and reflexologists dvertise in local magazines, especially those focused on natural and holistic living.

But looking in your phone book under massage therapy and calling around is a good start.

The one I am going to see is at the JCC health club(JCC is like the YMCA). They only started offering massage services 6 months ago. They will charge me 36$ for 30 minutes.

Thanks! I seem to recall that a few years ago there was a newspaper article about someone local up here who had gone to school for this and was going to be opening her business over in the next town.. I'll have to check the phone book and see if she did.. If so, there are a number of people I can speak with up here to find out what they think of her services..

Just one night I would love to have real sleep - the kind of sleep I used to have..:goodvibes

Good luck! Please come back and tell us how it works! I have daily headaches as well, and I will try anything--especially something that doesn't involve medication.

Interesting! I need to find that spot!!!
