Do you think it could get hard to book OKW?

We own a small contract at OKW that has worked out perfectly for us, and we plan to do an add-on, probably at BWV and possibly at BCV. I have toyed with the idea of buying a larger add-on at BWV or BCV and sell my OKW contract, with the thinking that I can have the 11 month advantage at the smaller resorts, but still always get in at OKW at the 7 month mark when we want to...

So, the question is, does anyone think reserving OKW could be a problem as SSR is completed and possibly other large DVC resorts, or is it a big enough place that it is unlikely? We don't go during the peak times.

I think booking OKW is already difficult at certain times of the year, and of course DVC "peak times" are not necessarily the busiest times for WDW generally. I've seen numerous posts of people who either couldn't get anything at all, or could only get SSR.

I don't think you'll ever see OKW as difficult as BCV or VWL, but it could approach the difficulty level of BWV because of the low point cost relative to other DVC resorts.

We have OKW points primarily to assure ourselves 11 month availability for GV units. They require so many fewer points than GV units at other DVC resorts.

We do not own at OKW, but if we ever do, this will be our reason. As we have young DGC there could be many years ahead to enjoy having their family stay right "with us." In June we're trying out an OKW's 1 bedroom unit to see if we like the resort enough to buy there.

As posted earlier, there certainly are times and units that are not easy to get OKW, and GV's are one of those that can be difficult. I think OKW and BWV will be about the same level of usage as more members come into the fold. It will always be difficult to get BWV standard view and OKW GVs at less than 7 months out.

OH, and another reason OKW is getting difficult, is that lots of folks who rent out points, will reserve at OKW after the 7 month window because of the cheaper points there. We see LOTS of non-DVC folks at OKW each trip, and most of them are renters.

Thanks everyone, I think you have convinced me to keep my OKW contract and do a smaller add on at BWV for standard points, or possibly BCV to ensure we can go to SAB. :sunny:

We own at OKW, and twice this year, granted they were for rather last minute trips, we were unable to book at OKW and had to go to SSR. We liked SSR at lot too, but I was surprised not to be able to get OKW.

I also think you should keep your OKW contract as I do believe it will be more difficult to book in the future. So many people have posted that they stayed @ SSR "because they had to" due to no availability @ other DVC resorts. I think this is so sad because it appears to be a lovely resort that has gotten a bad rap. Also, I feel there will be more incentives to buy into SSR and that will bring in even more members that bought strictly for the discounted buy-in...not necessarily because they want to stay there. Throw all that into the mix and any non-SSR owner will have to be diligent about taking advantage of the 11-month window at their home resort.

If I needed a GV, I would buy at OKW.

I am stingy with points so OKW would be my first choice based on the point requirements alone.

I bought OKW points for the grande villas, but I was stunned this year when I tried to make ressies there for a studio, and THEY WERE SOLD OUT<gasp>. I have always been able to get a studio at OKW in the summer at 7 months or less--this year, even SSR was sold out for studios. Admittedly, it was over the 4th of July, but it was still a surprise to me. :confused3

I'm dying to try OKW. We are planning to go next April and want to stay there. I have to book at the 7 month window for a 1 bedroom. I'm really hoping we'll be able to get in because it will be during April school vacation.
