Do you think it’s safe to go on a cruise during the current situation?

Based on data from England and India the delta variant infection rate appears to peak about 45 days. So for anyone with an upcoming sailing I would suggest waiting until the last possible moment before cancelling. Keep an eye on the infection rates in your destination(s) and make your call based on the latest data.

I'm on the Aug 9th Dream. My wife and I have discussed this a lot. Since its just the two of going this was our train of thought.

  • We are both vaccinated
  • Flight to MCO - We will be masked and so will everyone else
  • MCO to Disney Hotel - UBER/LYFT We and the Driver will be masked per their guild lines
  • Hotel dinner - We will be finding a place to eat outside, masked to and from hotel room
  • Bus to Port - We will be masked
  • The Ship - We feel comfortable with the mask guidelines and precautions Disney has in place. We have also scheduled lots of Adults only things. Adult Beach/Mixology classes
Even if my kids were joining us I would still feel good, but they are both 18+.

If I had younger kids that could not be vaccinated, I doubt it. I'm a worry wort, and I would be so scared with every cough or every shared elevator. I dont know if I could enjoy the trip in that case. I feel horrible for parents that have to make that tough decision.

Don't count on your Uber driver being masked.

IMO, a cruise isn't safe right now. No, I wouldn't go. You spend a lot of time indoors on a cruise and since they aren't testing vaccinated people (right?), they are not going to catch a LOT of covid.

I was booked on a long HAL cruise in the spring of 2022, which the cruise line cancelled. They rebooked us on a similar cruise in 2023. Although fully vaxxed, I will not be venturing on a DCL cruise for quite a while for 2 reasons. I am a senior citizen, so I am part of a more vulnerable population. The number of unvaccinated children on a Disney cruise makes it more hazardous than a cruise with mainly (vaccinated) adults onboard.

Personally, I don't think it's a great idea. DCL is putting a lot of good protocols in place; however, Delta specifically is MUCH more contagious than the original virus and while vaccines are effective they're less effective against Delta. I would so much be concerned about me getting it, since I'm fully vaccinated and relatively young with no other underlying risk conditions. However, I would not want to contribute to spreading it-and since a lot of breakthrough infections (those who are vaccinated) are asymptomatic, I could get it, not know I have it because I have no symptoms, and then be spreading it.

My family just cancelled a trip to WDW in mid-August because Florida/Orlando is in such rough shape. The risks are just too great. To each their own, but to me not worth it at the moment.

Going on a September cruise in Europe. I do not get flu shot or pneumonia shot but have had J and J covid shot. I am ready to go!!:banana:

I would cruise Royal since they are 95% vaccinated on their ships but since Disney isn't requiring that level of vaccination I don't think I'd go. I was watching a La Lido Loca vlog from the Celebrity Edge last week and he was talking about the Captain coming on in the morning and giving announcements like "we had 3 positives yesterday now we have 9." It just doesn't seem like the type of environment where I can go and really relax and with Disney not requiring vaccines at all it's almost a guarantee there are going to be positive covid cases on their ships.

I've got the Dream and Wish booked for 22 so hopefully things improve by then and everything is good to go.

We would go tomorrow, if we can find someone to pay :). As a side note, we have caught something on almost every cruise we have been on (10+). We would still go, life is too short.

I have taken numerous trips to WDW from OH in late fall and winter. Almost every trip I get some sort of cold or flu bug. In January of 2019 I was so ill I had to leave our Luncheon with an Imagineer due to stomach flu. (I actually threw up. TMI) Our last trip in December of 2019 I decided I was going to disinfect handles, knobs, remotes, plane trays and arm rests, not hold poles in busses or monorails and just be germ diligent. I did not get sick. Coincidence or proactive approach - who is to know. PS. At the "hospital" area at Hollywood Studios the nurses told me that thousands of germs from all around the world are colliding at WDW. She said it is not unusual at all for folks to get flu bugs.

That is awful. A cruise should be a respite from Covid news. I don't mind showing my vaccine card or wearing a mask, but please, for a few magical days, give me a break from listening to infection statistics.

Going on a cruise next week and so excited to be sailing again. 100% vax required (NCL) and everyone is being tested at embarkation as well. NCL cleanliness was always A+ pre-COVID so I can only imagine now.

We would all love a break but unfortunately, if there is an outbreak on a ship, guests cannot let their guard down and have to act accordingly for their own safety. :(

This is the part that makes me super nervous and I'm hoping the policy changes prior to our March cruise on NCL. Obviously I would never attempt to board feeling sick, but what if you randomly test positive and are asymptomatic? I assume you're denied boarding, but what about the rest of your travel party? And do you get a refund?

Currently on the Disney Magic UK cruises anyone who test positive at the port is not allowed to get on board and all of their party are not allowed to get on board and the whole cruise is refunded.

From the current FAQ:
If one person in the party tests positive for COVID-19, immediate family members, those traveling in the same cabin as the guest who tested positive and those identified as a close contact will be denied boarding.

If you are denied boarding due to a positive COVID-19 test at embarkation, the cruise line will coordinate and cover costs for travel arrangements, for you and those traveling with you if they are also denied boarding. The cruise line will not be able to assist with travel arrangements if a guest is denied boarding as a result of a violating the cruise line’s health and safety protocols.

Thanks. So there’s no additional testing once you board the ship? After each port for example?

It would definitely be a bummer but we know now that those who are vaxxed and still contract Delta can spread it just as easily as the unvaxxed. There’s a much lower chance of getting it if you’re vaxxed but if you do, getting on a cruise ship without knowing you’re positive would likely mean spreading it to several other people on the ship, who could become symptomatic and/or infect others while traveling/at home. I think it just makes sense to test everyone given what we know (offering refunds to those who cannot board). I really hope DCL changes their policy and does the same, especially with unvaxxed kids on board.

Oh for sure, I definitely have no issue with the policy and can completely understand the logic. I just know I will be sweating bullets with worry during the test LOL :scared:
