Do you think it’s safe to go on a cruise during the current situation?

I have unvaccinated kids and at this point we're still comfortable.

We live 45 minutes from the port, so getting turned away at the dock due to a last minute positive would be disappointing, but not devastating as we would get a full refund and be home within an hour. We aren't going to get off the ship at the one Mexico stop, because I don't want to risk not being allowed back on.

We're mostly worried about school, as our area forbids requiring masks and mask sightings are rare. I'll be glad to be on a ship where there are actual regulations that are enforced. Even just sitting on the balcony watching the sea while the kids watch movies and order room service sounds like heaven.

With all the protocols & safety measures, I think cruising is the safest vacation you can do now.
I'd rather take a cruise now than go to any destination in the world.

Other than a fishing trip or hiking in the mountains, I can't name a single vacation spot or leisure destination that is safer than a cruise.

We have a Xmas and New Years trip booked for Mexico and I'm seriously thinking of canceling it and instead go on MSC or another line because I feel we'd be safer on a cruise with most people vaccinated, than in a resort with who knows how many anti-vaxxers or even irresponsible ppl carrying the rona.

Cruising twice this month. Both vaccinated. We feel totally safe going. If I had small children, I would probably feel differently.

We're scheduled to cruise this December with a night before at a Disney resort (no parks), but I'm probably going to cancel it and wait until next December. Even though we're both vaccinated, I'm concerned about the Delta variant.

In terms of traveling I'm more concerned for my son than for myself, because at his private high school they've verified (via submitted vaccination cards) that about 95% of staff & students will be vaccinated, they're going to require masks, it is not a crowded environment, & in general it's a community of staff, students & families that are pretty vigilant about following safety protocols. So imo he'll be quite safe at school, and I don't want to put him at heightened risk for a vacation.

I'm going to be at high risk daily due to my job as an elementary school teacher, working with a full classroom of all unvaccinated students until Pfizer is approved for under-12's. I also live in Texas, and the governor has forbidden mask mandates at schools, which raises the risk level even more. I'll be wearing my KN-95, but I know that at least some of my students will not wear masks. I personally would probably be safer on the trip than at work.

So I'm not sure what to do. I know that my son will have increased risk just living with me. But I still don't know if it would be okay to take him on a trip. It would help to have an idea of where the country would be in terms of this Delta variant surge in late December, but no one has a crystal ball.

I hate Covid!

I know you didn't ask, but for your job you could always wear a face shield in addition to a mask. I work in an outpatient radiology office and we wore both mask and face shield from last spring until around March. I felt safe that even if someone coughed in my face, it would be very unlikely to spread to me. It's annoying at first but you get used to it.

Thanks but we were required to wear face shields along with our masks during the first half of last school year and it was horrible. Trying to work on a computer in that, to read a book aloud, etc., with all of that visual distortion, was very hard (I'm middle aged & my eyes aren't great). There's no way I'm doing that again- I kept having to lift the face shield to be able to read things (which as a teacher, you're doing a lot), so it was pointless, anyway.

Being directly coughed or sneezed on isn't really the issue as I teach upper elementary kids, so they're bright enough at that age not to cough in your face. It's just the inherent risk of being in an enclosed room with more than 20 unmasked, unvaccinated people for 8 hours per day. It's dangerous.

Our adult patients are not bright enough to not cough (or heavy sigh) in our faces. Well, now with covid that has changed because they have a mask on but in pre-covid times it happened every day. It happened enough that I changed where I stand when I position patients for a mammogram. Maybe it's passive agressive thing with some people.

I’ll feel safer on a cruise than I will at a theme park. We are driving to florida from WV. We will be masking at all stops on the way down. Not ready to fly yet, but got a ton of jetblue points and a nice travel bank that has to be used soon. We will not visit the parks before our cruise. After the cruise, maybe, or just do pool time

Still not sure what I will do yet with the NYE cruise. All 4 of us vaxxed, 3 out of 4 had covid. Just worried about all the logistics. Just going to see how this plays out for the next couple of months. How the cruises go that leave soon. PIF isn't until November 1st, but that is closer than it appears with everything going on these days. This variant seems to have a very steep peak of infection and a quick drop. We shall see.

Our family would cruise tomorrow since we all already had Covid. Special gift from our last Disney Cruise. May as well put it to use. 😃

A friend of mine (who unfortunately passed away) used to call a cold caught in WDW/on a cruise « a magical cold ». Looks like there is Magical COVID as well.

In the end, it doesn't matter what people here think. Safety is a personal feeling.

Even when we all come up with reasons why it is safe (or as safe as can be), if you do not feel safe, then that's it.
Then the question is: Can your brain overrule your heart?

What everyone has said here - all up to you/comfort/safe/risk level.

When this all started last year, we did cancel our June 2020 Alaska (Princess cruise/of course everything was cancelled not long after anyway). It was a whole different ball game.

But now, there is so much more information out there/know/don't know but they are taking so many extra measures now that I feel, it would be the safest now to cruise. It will be a matter of time before they start relaxing those in place. They will be extra/super careful.

Good luck with your decision.

We are booked the 3rd of January. We are both vaccinated. We hope things improve by then. We are 68 and 69 and don't have as much time to continue to put our loves on "hold"! I trust Disney to take all necessary precautions, including cancelling if they feel it is not safe. I will gladly take a booster. I am hoping by then children will be able to be vaccinated. I am praying all the people (I changed the word I originally used here!) who are vaccine hesitant for reasons other than the recommendation of their health care professional will get the shot! I saw the perfect meme that said "Anyone else feel like the responsible student who keeps missing recess because other kids won't follow directions and the whole class is being punished?" This exactly!

Very subjective question. And one with no right answer.

But DH & I (both fully vaccinated) are booked on a cruise for September and as long as she sails away from that pier, we'll be on it.

We may have to cancel a trip to Aruba next week due to the possibility of being quarantined if anyone of us test positive before we leave and are looking at other last minute options. Would love to do the August 9 four night cruise but DD25 is very worried about this delta variant. How concerned would you be?
We have already cruised on Royal and felt completely safe. It was so good to be back. With that being said, Royal was 95% vaxed and my entire party was vaxed. We have two b2b cruises planned on NCL this Oct. again 95% vaxed on the ship. We would not sail Disney because of the mask policy onboard and the unvaxed kids onboard. So maybe try another cruise line for now with more stringent rules while you get comfortable with the idea of cruising.

This. That's one of my favorite things to do on a cruise- just chill out in the stateroom.

We're on the 8/9 Dream. Normally, I don't want to spend one minute inside the stateroom outside of basically sleeping/showering. As such, we normally just book an ocean view stateroom. However, we did get a verandah room this time knowing we may want to spend more time in our room.

We have a 7 night Merry Time cruise on the last week of November. I don't feel comfortable going into Florida. My wife and I are vaxxed, but the kid is not yet. I feel somewhat OK just going on cruise, but no way would we go into the parks now. We have lots of time to mill over what to do.

I would feel more comfort knowing DCL required full vaccination. Well that is all I will say I don't want to hurt any feelings or get my post pulled down.
