That was the point of my post also, to point out that it is not a "southern" thing or a culture thing.

If this is something that your family has always done that is cool, it is just not indicative of Southern culture. IMHO

Now if say someone did this for me, I don't think I would be insulted (but I may wish I could have picked out my own meal). I think I would prefer to be told "order whatever you'd like". That is just me.

No mam, not at all. I welcome differing opinions. I take offense to saying my opinion is weird or strange because it differs from yours.

There is a HUGE difference and call it what you want, or convince yourself however you need to, but calling an opinion that differs from yours as strange or weird is self centered.

I called and left them a message, but they mention it may take 2 days to get back with me. Ill update as soon as i hear.



Because i will go to the restaurant the day of their reservation (a few hours before). I will look at the menu that night, order their courses, their wine and two non alcoholic beverages. I will then pay the bill, leaving a 25% gratuity in cash for the server who takes care of them.

Calif. Grill doesn't open until 5 pm (or possibly 5:30 pm?) and that is the earliest you'd be able to go up the elevator before their reservation. I know we went up in the first wave of people to sit in the bar and seating for dinner reservations didn't start until half an hour or so later.



And yes, to answer your question, if someone did that for me, I would take it as someone telling me what to eat. Even my 3 year old gets a say in what he wants to eat when we dine at Disney.

I paid for a dinner at Victoria and Albert's for my parents. The day of their dinner, I called and provided my credit card number.

It was billed that evening.

Quite easy and no issues.

Personally I think it is very nice of you to treat your parents at California Grill its one of my favorites! As far as ordering for them, who cares everything on the menu is good. I love surprises and I am sure they will appreciate you taking care of all the details Enjoy

I respectfully disagree. We dined in the CG tree times last May and every time they denied people to go to the restaurant without an actual and valid reservation for that time. This led to very heated discussions at the counter and lift entrance but there was no getting into the lounge for others than actual diners.

The lounge and the waiting chairs were over crowded with people waiting for their table and it would have been madness to let any more guests into a fully overcrowded restaurant. We waited 45 minutes before we could be seated.

I have been to the lounge without a reservation many times, and recently (the last time in October and I plan to do it again this coming Thursday). The only time they restrict to reservations only is when it is very crowded up there (usually around fireworks time). I usually go early. It's also rather easy to get access to the lounge after the fireworks are over. So, no, it's not restricted to reservations only all the time.

And if you are only going up there to conduct business, like pay for someone else's meal, there isn't much reason why they won't escort you up to see the manager, or call for the manager to come down.

Granted this was around the Wishes time.
This whole letting everyone into the restaurant is the main reason we stopped dining there. We think it is ridiculous to let dining guests wonder around whiteout even a chair to sit and let non dining guest take up the seats. It is in fact the same system they have in the QS restaurants. You just have to wonder around until you can get a seat although you pay top price. The only difference is you are "trapped" at the CG and just have to stand until you will be seated and in a QS restaurant you can wait outside sitting on a bench or on the curb.
We like Narcoossees much better for that reason. (and of course we can walk back on our knees to our resort if necessary )

They don't let EVERYONE into the restaurant. They'll let you up to the bar/lounge if they have space for you. If it's crowded and the seats are taken, you don't get up from the second floor unless you have a reservation. It isn't a problem or they'd stop doing it. And if I go up there to the lounge I am ordering drinks and food so I believe I count as a dining guest. They serve the full menu in the lounge. I am going up for some sushi this week and am glad I don't need to make a reservation to go up and order sushi at around 6:30 (fireworks are at 9:30, should be fine)

Narcoosees has a bar too (albeit a small one) and yes you can go in there and eat at the bar if you don't have a reservation.

The OP only wants to contract some business, so there isn't any reason to not escort him up to allow him to do that if it's necessary. If there's space in the bar I am sure they wouldn't mind if he even stayed for a drink.
