when you are there for longer trips? (example, a week?) We are trying to decide if we should just pack all the clothes we will need for the 8 days (we're flying), or to cut the amount in half and do laundry part way through. Lighter luggage versus sitting in a laundry room for an hour and a half? What do you all do? (oh, such big decisions in life... :teeth: )

Thanks!

We also fly and take half as much luggage...then wash half way through the trip. It's actually nice to be able to take that break halfway through the trip.

Who would have thought doing laundry was a break? :confused3

I never did until we went to WDW for the first time - for 15 nights. Now I always take time. Less luggage and clean clothes when we return! :cool1:

we went to WDW in dec 04 and i packed more than enough for our 11 days, and i still did laundry...i couldnt stand seeing it all piled up and my kids wanted their "favourites"...we leave for DL in 32 days and i will pack much lighter and do some laundry at the motel...throw a load in and watch the kids swim.....wont be too bad...have fun!!! :thumbsup2

Our trip last Oct was for 12 days flying in from Seattle, WA. There was no way we'd have room for 12+ days of clothes for 4 people in our lugage. We ended up doing laundry at the end of the first leg of our trip (San Diego). I'm glad we did that. When we finally got to GCH, the machine were always occupied. Luckily we still had a few days of clothing left. On our trip last week (9days and driving) we brought enough clothes to last the trip so we didn't have to take time our of going to the parks to do laundry. - I'd pack enough clothes so you don't have to do laundry even though your suitcases may be heavier. I'd hate to be waiting for the laundry to be done knowing you could be out playing at the parks.

DH and I were just pondering this last night. Guess that answers that question! We'll bring enough clothes for the trip, and maybe pack a couple scoops of laundry soap just in case.

I always do laundry on a trip longer than about 4 days, especially if we are changing hotels during our trip (which we usually do). I don't like having dirty laundry sitting around, and especially lugging it from one hotel to another. I don't mind bringing it home dirty, though.

I usually pick a day when we are not planning on heading out too early, and just make trips to and from the laundry room while we are getting ready in the morning. I usually have pretty good luck if I get started early enough, before people start lining up at the washers.

In all of my world travels I have only done laundry once, on a 3 week trip in Australia. We were with family at their home the last week, and took advantage!

No way! My vacation is a vacation...also I want all the pictures to have us in different clothes ...maybe that's anal ......but everything must be in order! I also always overpack too..........depends on how big a slave to fashion you are. I would not give up one minute of my free time for laundry.

We always try and plan some mid day downtime in our DL holidays and I don't find it a big deal to throw a load or two in then sit by the pool while it washes and dries. Everyone folds and puts their own stuff away so I'd rather wash than pack a ton or take a ton of dirty stuff home! :sunny:

I never do laundry on vacation - not just because I don't want to spend the time, but also because the machines at the hotels can be so hard on your clothes! Our clothes aren't cheap, and I'm really picky about the way I take care of them. I don't love the pile of laundry when I get home, but in a strange way I do like thinking through the fun we had in those clothes when I am back at home and have time to reflect a little as I fold them. Guess that's the sappy mom in me!

I did once, we were at WDW for 8 nights, about halfway through I did one load (just DH and me) so we could re-wear some things. We had enough clothes, but certain items were more comfortable for the parks than others. I also spilled a Coke on my shorts and wanted to get them washed right away, so I figured I might as well do a load. I'd brought some laundry soap from home, on the off chance I'd want to run a load and sure enough I did!

Since then, on any trip longer than 5 nights, I always bring some laundry soap and quarters, just in case.

I usually pack a small bottle of Woolite and rinse out my shirts and unmentionables in the sink each night. It just takes a minute.

We also plan to buy souvenier tee shirts, so we underpack just a little. . .

I have also been known to save up almost worn out underwear and throw them away as I go. . . we use "footie" socks which don't take up much room. . .

I read a tip somewhere to find a local laundrymat that has fluff and fold service. You drop it off and come back later and it's cleaned, dry and folded. You don't have to wait around for the washer and dryer to be done either. Drop-off and pick-up at your chosing. Maybe a little more than doing it yourself at the hotel but a lot less than having the hotel laundry service do it.

Something to keep in mind if all the machines at the hotels are constantly busy.

So far, we have not been lucky enough to take a long enough trip that its been a concern! Hopefully some day. As it is now, I can't miss more then 1-2 days of work, along with a weekend.

We usually stay in California for 2 weeks during the summer. One week in L.A with my brothers and one week in Anaheim. We do laundry the day we leave L.A to go to Anaheim. It's cheaper than doing it at the hotel. Also, we don't have to pack as much either.
