Just wondering if you take a multi-vitamin and if so, which one do you take?

I'm totally unsure of which one to get. There are sooooo many out there.

My resolution this year is to make better choices. For YEARS I've done the normal....."lose weight/exercise more" but we all know that usually goes out the window by day 4. :lmao:

So, how do you choose which one to take? Does it matter by age? Your activity level? What?

No I do not however my sister and my neighbor have convinced me to start.:thumbsup2

My sister is through menopause and she does not take a vitamin with iron. Now she cannot have iron due to a blood thing. She also takes B6, due to her nerve damage with her ankle reconstruction.

My neighbor takes one with iron although my sister told her she probably should not since she is done with menopause. Not sure how true that is.

She also takes B12 and says that it has made a HUGE difference in her energy levels.

Too much iron is not good, I know that. I just had my blood work done and I am fine with my iron so I will take a vitamin without iron.

So start with getting some blood work and then go from there.:thumbsup2

Target brand multi for women, fish oil by NatureMade, Iron + magnesium (I'm anemic) and I take a couple of the kid's gummy calcium + vitamin D because I've been too lazy to pick up my regular calcium pills and their bottle is huge. I take the iron at night because it really upsets my stomach.

So people take a multi-vitamin ALONG WITH other vitamins like B12, fish oil, etc? Doesn't a multi take care of everything? Soooo confusing. LOL

I know my hubby takes his blood pressure meds along with a gummy vitamin and fish oil. I just don't know what vitamin does for what? I was hoping taking a multi would cover it all. I remember during my last physical I asked the Dr about which vitamin to take and he said a multi. :confused3

Adult gummy vitamins. Doctor suggested since others always felt stuck in my throat and I would never take them. I like taking gummy vitamins now. A daily dose is to chew 2 of them. Mine are from One A Day and come in fruit flavors. :goodvibes

I was never good about remembering to take a daily vitamin until I started thinking about having a baby. I started taking a prenatal vitamin as soon as I started trying to get pregnant, and have been taking it ever since. I got in the routine of taking it as part of my ritual before bedtime while I was pregnant and then nursing, but decided to keep taking it since I'm of childbearing age and accidents happen! Want to make sure I always have enough folic acid on board since you need it most before you even know you are pregnant. Also, they made me very nauseous when I first started taking them, but now my body is used to them so I'm hoping it'll stay that way through my second pregnancy, whenever that may be.

I take Sundown Naturals Adult Multivitamin Gummy. I figured I would take them more regularly if they tasted good and weren't a pain to swallow, like the big horse pills I used to take. They also have manufacturers and store coupons that make them pretty cheap.

I can't take them...they make me sick:sick:
I don't know why they do? Maybe it was the brand I used. I took the equate(walmart version) of the One-Day.

My kids take the gummy vites. They have usually taken the multi gummy vites, but Costco stopped selling those. So I looked at Walmart and they had a kids Vit D gummy vit. For us, where we live, that is perfect for the winter months. So I have started taking their Vit D gummy's with them each morning. I chew 2 and they taste really good and do not make me feel sick at all.

When it warms up and we have sunny days again I will go back to the multi gummy vits, and will probably look at adult ones for me.

Do you take them on a full stomach? If I don't take mine with a meal they make me nauseous.

Yep. They take additional supplements with the multi-vitamin.

And to echo PP, you need to take it with your morning meal.

One of my NY resolution is to remember to take my supplements daily. Kirkland (Costco's generic) multi, calcium and glaucosemine.

Yes. I am no longer trying to conceive but I continue to take a prenatal as it seems to be good for the hair/nails for me. Regular multi vitamins can be an issue and often make me sick..these don't so I am sticking with it.

I also take B Complex and a Magnesium/Calcium/Zinc supplement with it. The mag/cal/zinc address my migraines..before I took it I got 1-2 migraines a month. When I take it regularly (every day) I get maybe 1 migraine every 6 months or so. Such a difference!

I take the Equate (Wal-Mart) brand of Women's vitamins. I have fewer colds than I used to since I started taking them a few years ago.

Also take pre- and pro-biotics from Shaklee. They have done wonders for my gluten issues.

I take a LOT of vitamins and supplements, but the multi I take is called YOUR LIFE 45+. I am not over 45 but I buy the vitamin for women over 45 because I liked the extra ingredients they added to the vitamin for women over 45.

I'm not sure if you can buy it at Walmart or Vitamin World. I buy it off drugstore.com most of the time because that is where I buy my Super Juice tablets. Most of my supplements comes from Swanson's and Drugstore.com.

Multi vitamins do not cover everything. Multis do not have Fish Oil in them. Most don't have enough Calcium (for women) nor do they have near enough Vitamin C or D. I also take other supplements like Sulfurophane (broccoli extract) Red Wine Extract, Green Tea extract, Garlic, Vitamin K1 and K2 and Super Juice tablets that are for ppl who don't eat enough fruits and vegetables. I take a Fish oil gel cap that has Fish/Flax/Borage Oil in them. I also take a Magnesium tablet twice a day in addition to the multi because added Magnesium help keeps you "regular" if you happen to have that particular tummy issue. (I do)

One-a-Day makes me sooooo sick. Within a minute of taking one, I'm doing everything I can to hold it down. It's horrible. :(. I've since switched to another brand and I have no problems. It's just something about One-a-Day... :confused3

Yes, I take 2 Flintstone's Complete. It is the most complete chewable multi-vitamin I have found. I have a hard time swallowing pills. As it turns out, I have absorption problems due to tummy problems. So chewables or supplements I can take subligually (under the tongue where stuff absorbs easily into the system) works a lot better.

I take two, also because of the tummy absorption problems. I found that it is more important to find out how well your body absorbs medicine & supplements, than to depend on the amount in each dose.

I also take my thyroid meds & Vit B12 sublingually. They work so much better that way.

I do swallow a mega-dose of iron for my anemia. There seems to be enough absorbed in the mega-dose. And I take 2 Cal/Mag/Zinc pills.

I have the same issue with One a Day..they make me extremely sick. Centrum or the generic equivalent cause the least amount of issues for me.

Multivitamins don't usually cover everything, because everyone has different needs. I take Multivites Adult Gummy Vitamins and supplement that with several other things because the Multivites don't have it, or don't have enough for my needs.

In addition to the multivitamin, I take Biotin, Iron, and Vitamin D because my blood work showed extremely low levels of those things and my doctor recommended them. The mutli has some D and Iron I think, but not enough to push my levels up to where they should be.

If you're doctor just suggested a multi, then you should be ok with only that. I would assume he's tell you take other things if you needed them.
