The twelve days of Christmas come after Christmas...the 12th day being January 5th. The Epiphany is January 6th, and the last day of the Christmas season. This is also a day to remember the visit to Jesus made by the three wise men. Some cultures give gifts on this day. We keep our lights up until January 6th for this reason, so perhaps that is why you see others do the same.

He enjoys the spiritual aspects of the season, but hates everything else. I almost didn't persuade him to put up with a tree in the house this year - I had some help and we got one in despite his protests. We've worked out a compromise - I get to decorate to my hearts content, but the decorations only stay up for one month. This year I decorated on the last day of November, so I kept my promise and took everything down on Dec. 31.
