I'm curious, with the proliferation of cellphones, what percentage of people still have a land line & how often they use it? If you don't have a land line, when did you get rid of it?

I haven't had one since 2005 - I used it mostly for DSL. I occasionally used the phone to dial out, I always left the ringer turned off & had people call my cell.

I have both and don't see getting rid of my landline anytime soon. I don't like talking on my cell phone, I don't hear as well on it.

Other of course. We use both.
Cell are the main number. Landlines are for when we need them. Dh uses it for telecommuting, faxing, giving out for store cards, and when no one answers their cell.

I mostly use my cellphone, but talking on my landline, everything is more clear. If I am home and have to make a call, I use my landline.
I hate talking on the phone, anyway, so talking time on any phone is low. ;)

Plus if I need to call my son at home, I call home.
His cell phone sits somewhere in the house, dead, 99% of the time.

My DH works from home and his company provided cell phone has crappy coverage in our house so we still need our land line. I also give my land line to all medical/etc people so I don't get bothered by appointment reminders and the like on my cell phone.

We also have a home phone that can connect to the cell phone with bluetooth so I can talk to on my cell phone on a regular handset.

I answered "we have cellphones but mainly use the landline", but that's not quite accurate. The most accurate answer is: "We have cellphones, but my HUSBAND mainly uses the landline, I mainly use my cell". Hubby uses the landline for work purposes (he works at home) because he is on the phone for about 8 hours per pay. He has a cell, but uses it only to text. I use my cell for everything, I never even answer our landline or give out that number, its 95% for hubbys work.

We only have a land line for work purposes. I don't even know the number off the top of my head.

We still have a landline and have no intention of ever getting rid of it. Everyone in the house has their own smartphone, but the landline is still a must IMO. If I'm at home, I only talk on the landline. To me, my cell phone is only for use while we are not at home.

I would also hate to have to give out my cell phone number to everyone. It would drive me absolutely crazy if doctor's offices, businesses, etc. were calling me on my cell phone. I only give my cell number to those people that absolutely need to have it (and then I encourage them to text, not call). I love having a home number to send the other types of calls to.

We do, only because the price for cable + internet with Comcast is $10 MORE than the price for cable + internet + home phone. Once our promotional bundle rate expires we'll probably drop the landline completely. With 4 cell phones in the house we never use it anyway.

We have a 2 story house and I don't want to carry my cell phone around all the time, so we will always have a landline. But it's bundled with our cable, so doesn't add that much to the bill.

We still have a landline and will have one as long as one is available. Yes, I have a cellphone, but I hate talking on it.

I have noticed that as well. It is so annoying talking on cell. But we got rid of land line. I try to get everyone to text me instead lol

We still have our landline. The only calls we get on that phone is DH's aunt and solicitation calls. We don't have any plans to get rid of it. It's bundled with our cable & internet plus it's a good back up in case of an emergency (we have a corded phone plugged in).

I voted but there really wasn't a category that fit me right. I frequently work out of my house and I have long conference calls. Its much easier to do these on a landline vs a cell phone. Also, we put our landline number on everything pertaining to the kids - school registration forms, etc. So we do get calls. All that said, I use the cell phone more than the land line because I am usually not at home.

We only have one cell phone and DH uses for work, we have a business and most of the time the cell phone will cut off and that is so wrong in many ways. And since I do not have one it is the only way DH and can talk during the day. But I prefer the land line.

Got rid of it 5 years ago, don't miss it. It was all sales calls anyways. We went a month without using it at all so we decided to axe it since we had unlimited minutes on cell.

We still have ours. It's rarely used, but it's always been bundled with other utilities, so we've just kept it.
