After looking at pics from the CR during the 70s and 80s, I am feeling very nostalgic! Most of my greatest childhood memories are from staying there!
The arcade, the monorail, watching the EWP from our balcony! The list goes on and on!! I feel so ~warm and fuzzy~ looking at those pics!! Do many of you go back to the same resort you stayed at with your family as a kid??
Would love to hear about your experiences!!! :earsgirl: :earsboy:

I stayed at the Poly when I was 14 and fell in love with it then. I have been back for my honeymoon and a few times with our kids.

I also stayed at the Contemporary when I was 5. I dont remember much from the trip as I got sick during it, but to this day when I ride through the CR on the monorail I get that "This is Disney" feeling. I havent stayed there again yet, but its on my list. ;)

My first trip to WDW was in 1972. I was 16. We stayed in the CR North wing. We made several more trips in the 70's and always stayed in CR North. When DW and I were married in 1980, we honeymooned at Poly and stayed there several other times during the 80's. Because there were only 1 or 2 theme parks during that time, we did a lot of other things besides the parks, like golf or watercraft. The lagoon and lake used to be full of those little water mouse boats. Some, or all, of these things were included in the packages. Now our trips are almost exclusively theme parks.

Now with more resorts, we move around from resort to resort. The deulxe resorts are quite pricey, so we usually go to moderates. Our last trip was our first to a value resort. We still go to CR and Poly to eat and look around the place. Some things are still about the same, but a lot has changed about both. I am glad that they changed some of the decor. I still recall those awful monorail uniforms.

It does make us recall good times.

I was an adult when WDW was opened.

stayed from 72 to 76 at the Polyn (grandmother paid for it).

started to go back in 82 stayed at Comfort Inn and one night at the Polyn

then went back in 83 or 84 stayed at the CRB - hated it.

started staying again at the deluxe in Dec 91, 92, 93 - the Cont, DL (not POR) and the polyn

joined DVC in 93 and started to stay at OKW. loved it!!! It is the only WDW resort my niece and nephew really remember. they have stayed at other places (using my points) - BC, Polyn, POFQ, CSR, BWV - but they always seem to prefer OKW.

Not that I can't blame them. a hotel is a hotel. but OKW is HOME!!!

There was no DL or DW when I was a small child, when I got older I watched Mr. Disney on his tv show and dreamed.

At home I seldom had a sheet or a pillow. Usually had some sort of a blanket though. The good thing about abject poverty and only having a Bookmobile visit once a month is that I travelled, extensively, in my mind.

I am blessed that we go to DW often and for extended times now and I enjoy and appreciate it all the more.

As a kid we always stayed at the Poly (one time at CR and once at old Golf Resort - now Shades of Green). But, I have very, very fond memories of the Poly. I never wanted to spring for it before, but this April we stayed there with 3 year old dd and it was very special to me to stay there again, even in our old building (that now has a new name, Tokelau). I just needed to stay there "one more time" and it is probably out of my system now. At $467/night I am not sure I would do it again, especially since we just bought a DVC resale at OKW. I wish Tangaroa Terrace was still open because I have vivid memories of that, but I also got to see the Electric Water Parade just like when I was a kid. To me, so much of Disney is the memories!!!

We also used to stay at Disney Golf Resort/Disney Inn, now known as Shades of Green. As 14-16 year old teenagers, we used to be able to squeeze 6 friends in the room because at the time, the rooms were the largest the Disney offered. The combination of the change over to Shades of Green, the fact that I now make a bit better living than I did working after school at a bulk candy store in the mall, and the construction of, IMO, better themed, upscale resorts like AKL and GF caused me to change my mind forever. However, if I could get all of the same high school buddies all together and give the Disney Inn another run, for old times sake, I'd do it in a second! ::MickeyMo

We, too, made do with Walt on the TV and the beautiful Tinkerbell flying around the castle, and touching the tip with her wand, every Sunday night for the Wonderful World of Disney.

Our first trip in 2001 was going to be our once-in-a-lifetime dream trip. We wanted the monorail and the Poly that we had heard so much about. In all honesty, that was the ONLY resort we had ever heard of. It was our first vacation as a new family and pure magic.

Two years later we planned a long weekend surprise 10th brithday for my son (he'd had a horrible year to to some unfortunate events with his biological dad). We couldn't afford deluxe but moderate was ok so we book Port Orleans (for the dragon pool) and then, through these boards, found out it was scheduled for renovation. For $20 more, Disney let us stay at BC and SAB. We were hooked! Near our favorite resort (Epcot) and a fantastic pool!

We are going back in less than 3 weeks and when we booked I asked my men if they wanted to try another resort (WL, AK, ect) and they both replied with a resounding NO! All they wanted was the BEach Club.

So no childhood favorite, but a grown up one!
