beauty products (facial creams and makeup)? Do you buy expensive brands or just whatever is on sale at your local discount store?

Now that I'm almost 39, I'm noticing the need for more than just facial moisturizer.;) ;) How important is it, to you, to take care of your skin/face? How much $$ are you willing to spend on beauty products?

:sunny:

Nope, don't buy any.

I have extremely sensitive skin, so I buy whatever won't make my face react. I'm currently using Clinique, their soap free creme clenser, gentle clarifying lotion (yes, below I) and moisturizer. So far so good, but it's usually trial and error with me. The stuff that doesn't cause my face to react costs $45 just for the cleanser, and that's only 1.7 oz, the moisurizer is $60 for 1.7 oz, so Clinique is MUCH less expensive. I just had to take something back to Clinique since I had a reaction, and they are supposed to be hypoallergenic!!!

I love Clinique. I've used it for years without any problems. I have sensitvie skin - no Mary Kay - and this is great for my skin. It's not really that expensive. The nice thing is that department stores offer a free gift pack a couple of times of year with purchase. The samples are great for traveling.

I use MAC makeup and facial products. I just went Friday and got a little makeover. It was so much fun!

MAC can tend to be expensive but I go overboard and buy everything I want. But their products and brushes are so good. It really is quality merchandise.

I have normal skin so I don't know much about moisturizers and such but I would also suggest Clinique. They seem to have a great line there. I have to stop myself from visiting that counter, too.

Nope, I'm a cheapskate there. I have in the past spent a lot, but I actually prefer the less expensive brands. I have yet to find moistourizer and make-up that I prefer at a higher price and am quite happy with my drug store brands-which still arent that cheap. It is still $12 for moistourizer.

I use a mixture of drug store and department store brand products. I use Maybelline mascara, Estee Lauder makeup base, blush, and eye shadow, and Aveeno facial moisturizer. I use Clinique lipstick. Luckily most of these products last a good while, so I don't have to replace them often.

<font color=navy>I've always worn bare minimum in the past, but as I get older  I like buying myself better quality moisturizers. I think they help, and they sure make me feel better. ;)

During Christmas, I splurged & got myself some Clinique - had never done that before - so I use it everyday.

I am almost 52 and I have pretty good skin. I've been told that I look younger and I think it is because of my skin. I use very little makeup. Only use a little foundation under my eyes. I use Covergirl for that. I think the worst thing you can do for your skin is use to many products. I was told by a dermatologist to use a product called Purpose. It is great. It really helps add moisture to your skin.

I also use Clinique, but not their moisturizer as it makes my skin oily. Oil of Olay with SPF works great for me, I use that every day. Living in S. FL does a number on your skin, you can always tell who lives here and who is visiting or just moved here from up North. When I go to the beach, I take an umbrella, wear a hat and pile on the sunscreen (Clinique for the face); yet I still get sun spots. Some of my neighbors are sun-worshippers and you should see what their skin looks like, tough as leather.

I just ordered something new and I'm curious to see if it delivers what it promises. I'll let you all know.

BTW, when you ladies go to Orlando, go to the Orlando Premium Outlet and stop at The Cosmetic Company Store. They have several brand name cosmetics/perfumes, Clinique is one of them and their prices are lower than the department stores.

Yeah, I spend a bit of money on makeup and moisterizers. I shop in Sephora for all my makeup needs, and use brands like Tony and Tina, Clinique, Christian Dior, Chanel, Urban Decay, Benefit...I love that store!!!

I'm only 18, so my skin isn't terrible. I only wear foundation in the winter months, but I'm a moisterizing fiend.

I use a mixture of brands. I use Clinique all the time for my face toner and lipstick, and ususally for my eyeshadow and mascara as well. For concealer I use Max Factor and Cover Girl for foundation. Occasionally, I get some Maybelline eyeshadow or mascara. I love Clinique bonus times :teeth:

Nope, I am cheap with that. I get some things that I know wash my face well for the shower and other than that, I only use a moisturizer with sunscreen in it :) I rarely wear any make up at all.

I use whatever catches my fancy for eyeshadow and lipstick.
For cleansers and moisturizers I use either Cetaphil or Paula's Choice stuff. It's great with no added ingredients I don't need and aren't expensive.
I'm wearing Lancome foundation. L'Oreal or Paula's select mascara.
Paula's Select, Mary Kay, Lancome, and Max Factor eyeshadows.
Paula's Select and Mary Kay blush.
And every thing from chapstick to Lancome lip stuff.

Oh and Paula's Choice 2% BHA lotion.

I go for the cheapest thing I can find that will do what I need to do, except for colors, then I play.

Whether I spend a *lot* of money depends on if you ask me or DH. :) He's amazed at the number of products I use every day, and I think I use just the right amount. I do spend a fair amount of money on hair/skin/makeup products, but I don't go for the really high-end stuff

Ladies with sensitive skin, do yourselves a favor and try plain old witch hazel. You can get a ginormous bottle at any drug or grocery store for under $2, and it does a great job as a toner without drying or stripping your skin. I'm a total advertising and packaging victim and spend way too much on other products, but witch hazel is better than any commercial toner I've ever used.

(PSA over :) )

Rita Z -

I'm 45 - an outdoor person who's worn makeup since she was 23 (late bloomer). I am CONSTANTLY told I look 33. Three things really changed my skin recently.

1. Cetaphil!!!! Like one of the other posters...it's recommended by dermatologists (models use it to clean their skin because they remove make-up and get re-made up for photo sessions). They have soap, moisturizers etc.

2. DRINK WATER - that's one of the BEST ways to change your skin. Also eat lots of DARK GREEN leafy foods. If you can't I recommend GREENS FIRST. It give you 10 servings of fruits/veggies everyday (tastes like green tea) I've tried other products but this within one month MINIMIZED fine lines.

3. I use a product I got from a spa ($27 bucks) can be used once a day it's called.Glycolic Exfoliating Wash. From DDF (Doctor's Dermatoloic Formula).

Personally it's been my view that if you have great INSIDE treatments you can get away with using cheaper MAKEUP products because you are creating good SKIN from the inside OUT. Not the reverse. Ok, I'm done flapping!!!! Oh, I use ABOLENE make up remover (walgreens). It's made from natural products and Katharine Hepburn used it too!!!

Have a great day!

Ack, witch hazel is waaay to drying to my skin and it makes it red. For a toner, I use hydrogen peroxide,
