Do you remember ?

who here remembers having a sock monkey made for them out of actual socks?

getting milk from the fridge in a rusty metal pitcher with a top that was set inside it and a swinging wire handle
(I was about 11 or 12 when I finally realized that other people had moved out of the 1800's and used plastic jugs and paper cartons )

Multi colored aluminum tumblers
off pink colored glasses
wicker paper plate holders
getting spanked by a neighbor when you misbehaved :rolleyes1
Burger Time and those pop up kids meal boxes

A nice lady in our neighborhood use to make those! I remember my sock monkey. It looked a lot like my grandfather's hunting socks!

des1954- I am in love with your baby otter picture! Do you mind if I ask the story behind it? I have never had the pleasure of seeing one in the wild, but they are my favorite animal and I tend to stalk them in Zoo's :rolleyes1

It all started back in 2007 when I posted about seeing otters in Bay Lake at Ft.W. My DH & I have been faithful campers at the Fort since 1974 and I never recalled seeing otters in the lake before. I was so excited I had to share the news with my Dis-Buddies. The thread went otterly south on me. It started the legendary Peacock-Otter Wars of 2007 and the rest is history.

Oh - the picture - I snagged it off the following website: http://www.tamarotters.co.uk/

I love otters and have my own little mascot named "Wynottah Ottah" who takes great delight in meeting other Fort Fiends.

Miss the peacocks. Love the otter. Do you remember when there were no cabins at the Fort, there were only small travel trailers? That was where my family stayed during our first Fort visit sometime in the early to mid 70's. Now DH and I have kids of our own DS6 and DS5 and have become EXTREME FORT FIENDS!!!! I remember when TE was affordable and when you could still swim in the lake. I won't discuss RC or I may burst into tears!

:lmao: I think mine was made out of new ( er I hope so any way) hunting socks
gotta admit I was a little sad to see that they sell them at Target now, probably made in china  just not the same thing.

Too cute! I will have to keep my eyes peeled for them! It's nice to know that they are there. River Otters are usually so people shy, it's hard to catch a glimpse of them, you must have eagle eyes :thumbsup2

Do you remember when the biggest worry in your life was what cereal you were gonna eat while sitt'n in front of the TV on Sat. morn watch'n cartoons ?

I "Deem" that everyone be a child on Sat. mornings again, watching cartoons.

YES! I REMEMBER! Nowdays with 1st grade work being tougher than second grade used to be and only 15 min for recess (ok, calm down Kim!) children do need to be allowed to be children. I second your motion!

Of course the cereal depended on what prize was offered. I still remember eating many, many bowls of Cheerios so I would have enough box tops to earn a model of the "new" Boeing 747 jet.

Frank- Cereal selection is STILL one of the most important parts of my day :lmao: side note: Do you remember when we used to ADD sugar to our cereal? I read an article once about Frosted Flakes and how over the years they have added more and more sugar. We used to put sugar on our corn flakes and "pretend" they were frosted flakes ;)

Speaking of cereal anyone else miss Quisp and King Vitamin?
I really miss the Rice Crispies with tiny marshmallows...:sad2:

Do you remember when going to Mc Donalds was a 'big thing"- all fast food for that mater was special occasion only.

How about "cruising the circuit", and hanging out in parking lots? Teenagers still do this where I live. I somehow always end up running errands or grocery shopping on Friday or Saturday nights (because that's the kind of exciting life I lead ;) )and even though I was a passenger on the circuit many times as a teenager it still shocks me to see all of those big gas guzzling trucks driving in circles for hours on end when gas is $2.95 a gallon :scared1:
(I must be getting old :rotfl:)

Tab & Diet Rite anyone?

Getting up to turn the dial... Hitting the T.V. for a better signal

T.V. Trays

I agree!! :goodvibes When Sat Morning was exciting!
4 hours of Hannah Barbara and then Cartoon express on USA! I miss those Wacky Races :)

Todays Special, Pinwheel, The Biscuits, Punky Brewster

Remember the "Live Character" Winnie the Pooh on the Disney channel?

Anyone remember UNCENSORED Looney Toones? :confused3

Getting up to turn the dial... Hitting the T.V. for a better signal
YES! I remember almost all of it! Especially hitting the TV. Our picture would shrink down to a strip in the middle of the screen. We would bang on the top and the picture would pop back out to full size. Do you remember when popular characters at MK were the Three Little Pigs, Pinnochio etc.?

Do you remember...
Kookla, Fran and Ollie
H.R. Puffinstuff
The Hair Bears
Roller skating to the Bay City Rollers S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Night! :cool1:

I received The Hardy Boys DVD for Christmas. It was a serial presented during the original Mickey Mouse Club in October of 1956. I finally sat down and watched it start to finish yesterday. What fun!

3 piece suits made of faded denim and "chucka boots"? Of coarse, this outfit wasnt complete without a half buttoned polyester shirt with a loud tacky pattern and a goldchain. The chuckaboots could be substituted for rollerskates on a Friday night and looked especially flattering if you were couple skating to DOWNTOWN at the roller-rink.

Dippity Doo, Noxema and Joe Namath is panty hose. Footsies and click clacks.

I said a hip...hop...hibby to the hippy...to the hip hip hop, a you dont stop....the rock it to the bang bang boogie, say up jumped the boogie,to the rhythm of the boogie that be!!!
