Do you really want to go back to WDW so soon?

i think we need to follow the sport opening. as soon as its ok for them to let stadiums fill up disney will follow. which may be the first of the year. vaccine work is moving fast so thats my hope. but i think of people expecting to go this summer are just wishful thinking

I actually don't understand the opposing point of view: "Even if the parks are open, I won't go back until at least blah blah blah". So what those people are saying is: if WDW is legally allowed to reopen, meaning that the most well-respected experts in the country advised the FL and federal government that it is ok to resume normal business operations, you still won't go.

Your faith that reopening will be based on science and not politics seems naive. May depend on the state. Many business leaders have the ability to sequester themselves while exposing the workers in their companies to risk. We see that now, let alone in a reopen.

I ended a WDW trip about 12 days before the shutdown came. Things were starting to intensify with the virus and things already felt a bit off kilter - I definitely noticed all the places I was crammed in closely with others in a way I hadn’t really before.

But even then when I came home I was tempted to try to book a May trip before my AP expiration - flights were so cheap! I figured we’d have to be careful for a few weeks and then it would all pass. Then in no time everything came crashing in. A friend’s husband in his late 30s has spent 35+ days in the hospital. My godson’s godfather who had been sick at home but managing it for a week had to be dropped at the door of the ER by his wife where he was rushed off to be intubated. My great aunt caught it in her nursing home. The husband of a friend of a friend (49 years old)was placed in a medically induced coma. My cousin, an RN in an ED spends her entire shift suited up like the government workers at the end of ET. She has had patients rushed to her ED after collapsing in grocery stores or being found unconscious in their homes after being just mildly sick days before. The morgue at her hospital is full. My aunt is a hospital administrator at a different hospital and she has a refrigerated truck parked outside for morgue overflow. I saw a post earlier in this thread making claims about “the media”scaring people about this. The media has scared me not one bit - everything I listed above is what scares me.

I won’t stay in my house forever and expect to be back to some level of “normal” by late summer or early fall because I trust that my state is going to make good decisions about when it is safe for certain things to resume and how those things can resume in a relatively safe way. But I will still be nervous about it for a while. I will probably wear a mask on my commute to work. When I started hearing about scary situations for people I personally know, it suddenly felt like this thing was chasing us all around. And while I was hoping to visit WDW in early December, I don’t know if I will be worth the exposure risk for me because I am not all that confident that other parts of the country will be practicing distancing or some restrictions long enough to rein in the spread and I am fearful of another spike late in the year. So even though I will return to work and even probably going out to restaurants and non grocery stores at home in the next couple of months assuming some level of restrictions still in place, I am not sure that the fun of a WDW vacation would outweigh the stress of the potential exposure by the end of the year for me personally.

I agree. I don't know if there is any truth to it, but I read somewhere that VP Pence "interfered" with CDC's recent extension of the "no sail order." It was initially set for 120 days (I think it was on CDC's website briefly before it was pulled). After the rumored intervention, it went down to 100 days. Plus, some of the more stringent criteria needed to resume sailing operation were removed.

If true (which may or may not be), it's an example that big businesses can exert influences on some of these decision-making processes that supersede science. Even if it turned out to be false or partially true, I won't be surprised that big corporations can have greater influences than the scientists who have been tasked to protect the public.

Well, Florida has decreed pro wrestling an "essential business."

We have an August and October trip currently booked. If open we will go; with the caveat that we feel comfortable with the measures airlines, WDW, etc. are taking. Be smart, be safe and let’s see how this plays out in the next few months!

I think it’s worth pointing out that Bob Iger is the head of the Disney company and not Ron DeSantis. I’m fairly confident they are of a vastly different political persuasion. While I certainly think Disney will feel pressure to open from a business perspective, the idea that the leadership of Disney will ignore science seems a stretch to me. Ultimately it’s going to be a balancing act. It will be impossible to eliminate all risk, so at some point Disney will have to reopen with measures in place. I for one have confidence they won’t open without a good faith effort at safety measures. Beyond that, I accept the risks because I know we live in a world where controlling all risk is impossible.

A sad sad reality is, if things don't open back up in the near future, then they might not ever open back up. Disney has deep pockets, but not deep enough to stay afloat until next year. I still believe that I will be able to spend my Birthday in the Magic Kingdom on Memorial Day weekend.

The parks don't physically disappear in bankruptcy. Shareholder equity is wiped out, and a lot of things will be different, but I doubt they will go the way of River Country.

I have no doubt that the Parks will open. But if this goes on long enough, there is a possibility that they could. Drive along 192 at all of the closed and forgotten tourist traps. If Disney were to actually go belly up(unlikely, as the entire World would be in a full blown depression and the geopolitical landscape would be different) then the parks would be closed until someone bought the land. But there are a lot of people who think the parks could stay closed until Summer 21, that would be the end of them.

Again, I do not think this is what will happen. I still believe that the Parks will open late May.

They'll reopen and those who want to go with restrictions will go. Those who are uncomfortable will postpone vacation to a future date.
I imagine no crowds possibly limiting access to onsite guests only. Disney will opt for low revenue verses no revenue so head counts will limit all areas. If demand is high, Disney has a history of raising prices. It will be interesting to see how Disney restarts.

It did morph. Have been watching situation closely.

The 120 days would’ve let us cancel an early August sailing on RCCL. One we went with Non ref rate as taking GD in connection with WDW/MNSSHP tix already purchased

We cancelled one cruise mid March on RCCL. They are dragging their feet on refunds. Some buzz on cruise boards may have to dispute with CC issuer

cruising experience will surely never be quite the same If Buffets concept does survive, ships, Vegas & WDW will likely switch to preplated small plates, doled out by staff. Not a deal breaker, but decidedly Different In the big scheme of things we are all going thru, a mere blip among many we will
All encounter in our everyday lives.

I don’t like buffets. I’ve always thought they were gross with kids putting their hands on the food. Am I in the minority here? This is a real question.
Nope. Right there with you. Unless a gloved attendant is dispensing the food I want, I do not go to buffets. And it isn't just kids who do gross things!

For me, this is one of my changes in attitude since this Pandemic started. Never gave this aspect of buffets much, if any, thought. But now I'm with you-they gross me out.

States have a vested interest in all businesses reopening, especially Disney, since they are losing incredible amounts of tax revenue. I don't trust politicians to make the best decisions. When the curves start flattening, and people get back out, we'll find out in short order whether the number of cases head back up. If they do, I'm afraid we'll all be in lockdown until a vaccine exists or there is real cure for those who get it.
