I have the pickle ornament (I love pickles), but I've never done the game thing because one ds is 13 and the other just turned 4. I don't think it would be very fair.

I hate to be the serious voice, but my SIL is German and is living in Germany while my DH's brother is in Iraq. I emailed her if this was something she has ever heard of. She replied that her family does this every year. She went on to say that not every German follows the same traditions, and that each German state has their own customs back in the day that each state was ruled by a Duke, Prince or King.

Interesting...

Now back to the regulary scheduled programming..

Ah so we have now found a German person living in Germany who does this tradition. Yeah!!!

I bought a pickle ornament several years ago at Bronner's in Frankenmuth.

I told DH about it when I got home and was so excited to put it on the tree and start a new tradition of letting the kids search for it and giving an extra gift to the one who found it.

DH frowned and didn't think it would be a good idea because the ones who didn't find the ornament wouldn't get an extra gift.

I didn't press it, but good grief, it wouldn't have been a BIG extra gift, just something small, like from the Dollar Store or something.

He's really a scrooge about Christmas anyway, the old poop!!

In hindsight I just should have gone ahead with it anyway, but now I have no idea where the pickle is.
