Do you love your state?

I have a love-hate relationship.

We picked up and moved to vegas for a spell and we loved it there, but I still pined away for NJ. :confused3 I missed the bread, buttered rolls & bagels, taylor ham, the pizza, the selection at food stores, snow on Christmas, the ocean and boardwalk, most of all... our friends and family. Couldn't just pick up and head to moms' house for dinner. :sad1: And if something bad happened back home, we had to fly back. Not fun.

Once we moved back, I was like, WUT were we thinking :crazy2: missed the dry heat, the palm trees, our pool always open, the desert, wearing flip flops all year, the LOW taxes and the fabulous entertainment options. This was of course, after the first major snow storm.

Did I mention the LOW taxes?

I love my state. I was just thinking about how lucky I am to live in NC and I can't imagine living anywhere else. Last weekend I was at the NC coast. Beautiful beaches with lots of history. This past weekend I was in the NC mountains at beautiful Lake Lure (where they filmed Dirty Dancing). I think NC is a great place to live.

Counting down the days until DH retires in 2-3 years and we can get out of NY!
Geographically, it is perfect. Close enough to major cities, beautiful countryside with lakes and mountains, but horrible winter weather and totally corrupt and inept political structure, not to mention the high taxes! We're outta here!:thumbsup2

exactly me too! (except the retiring timeframe, more like 5 - 10 years, and then we'll be heading to Florida).

Born, grew up in Ohio- hated it
Moved to-
NY-hated it
VA-hated it
DC-hated it
FL-hated it (this was before I discovered Disney!)
NC-loved it
WA now- LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!

I have learned to really like my current state of residence. In fact I am close to loving it. But I really love my home state of Louisiana. If it was feasible for us to move home, I would in a second. But the job for DH is here.

I heard this song today and your post made me think about it. As I was driving I was wondering how nice it will be once my kids are settled & in college to just put everything into a Pod and see where we want to send it:thumbsup2

Fly be free:goodvibes

FWIW, I like Pennsylvania because it's been a nice place to raise kids but it's a little too bland for me. If low key is what you want this is the place to be but I prefer the more lively colors in the crayon box.... there are only so many conversations I can have about kids, groceries and the lawn.

Live in STL, Mo Love it... Moved back after living elsewhere for awhile

I don't really like Central IL, where I live, but Chicago is just the neatest city ever. Would live there in a heartbeat if DH and I could both find equivalent jobs (to what we have now). Alas....

Don't miss TN, where I grew up, except the mountains. I do miss those!

As most of you know...I just moved from Vermont (lived there for 48 years) to North Carolina. I have only been here two weeks so I can't say that I love it, but I have to admit that I feel at home here.

Vermont is a beautiful state but there were two (actually three) very good reasons why I moved. The two were my daughters that moved here with their families within the last two years (the other three being my grandkids) and not listed but still real is the weather. As the years have passed I have found winter in New England harder and harder to deal with. I hate the cold, I hate the expense to stay warm when it's cold and I hate dealing with endless winters. It's been said that Vermont has 11 months of Winter and 1 month of tough sledding. :rotfl:

It also has a rich persons economy. Good paying jobs are hard to find, taxes and housing are out of sight. The scenery is fantastic when it is visible through the snow storms. The winters don't seem as severe as places in the Mid-west, but I wouldn't live there either.

Anyway...for right now I am perfectly content to live in NC and after the effort put forth to move, I'd say it will be awhile before I consider moving again.

P.S. It would be really helpful in understand your love/hate relationships if you tell us where you live.

I guess I pretty much love New Mexico. Great mountain scenery, we get all 4 seasons, but the sun shines 330 days a year, we don't get the wacky weather of tornadoes, monstrous snow storms, floods, or hurricanes. The weather is pretty boring here in a nice way, although a white Christmas once in a while would be nice.

NM has very low humidity and being at a higher altitude cools the temps off nicely at night. Even with the summer days being dry and hot I wake up to mornings in the high 60s. I can hang things up to dry outside and they are dry in 10 minutes.

The food is to die for! Where else in the USA can you go to a McDonald's and get a green chile cheeseburger! Green or Red (as in the color of chile) is our state question! No matter where you go, you can get green chile on your food. If you've never had a hamburger with green chile on it, you're missing out.

NM screams "culture" everywhere you go. Even the homes out here look different.

We have the most amazing sunsets you could imagine -- and not just once in a while. The same show plays almost every night and it's free! Lots of outdoor activities, diversity and acceptance among the people, and friendliness you don't experience in other places.

That must be why we're in the "Land of Enchantment." :thumbsup2

Now, if I were to up and move, I would consider Colorado which is similar to NM, but Colorado is greener and a bit colder in the winter.

Do you know that if you order a green chile cheeseburger in some parts of Texas, they bring you a cheeseburger with chili on it? Chili...like you'd eat out of a bowl! :sad2:

I believe it! They don't call it Texas Chili for nothin'. One has to understand the difference between chile peppers and chili. I know you do!

I love Oregon, but it's gotten too crowded. I'm moving to Alaska this summer--already have my ferry ticket paid for and am very excited for this move. :goodvibes I'm going to be a school slp in the matsu valley, which looks like it's much less crowded, but still close to Anchorage.

Grew up in Florida -- Hate it! Love Disney, love Universal, but life in FL was dull, dull, dull. Lived in Lakeland, downtown Orlando, Davenport and Clermont, and hated them all. Yes, it is possible to get burned out on the theme parks, and then what? There's absolutely no color, no life, no real energy in the state.

Moved to New Orleans -- Love, love, love it! Lived in the French Quarter. No need to even take the car out for weeks at a time. Absolutely anything you can imagine within walking distance--five-star restaurants, dive bars, locally-owned grocery stores, free live music of every variety 24/7, a full calendar of festivals. Colorful, interesting, highly diverse people, a real small-town neighborhood feel where everyone knows everyone but without the conservatism and judgmental attitudes of many small towns.

Full-time RVing -- Having a fantastic time! Hit the road six years ago and never looked back. We've seen so many amazing places, met so many wonderful people. That freedom to just pick up and go at a moment's notice, or stay a few months if we find someplace really special, is just amazing. Right now we're in Austin, which I absolutely adore. We'll be in Roswell, NM in a few weeks. We went back to NOLA for Mardi Gras and decided to stay through French Quarter Fest. We also store the RV periodically to take cruises or stay in hostels in various cities...but being full-timers, we have nothing we have to get back for. We took a week-long cruise in Alaska a year ago, and decided to stay for a month. I don't know if I want to be on the road forever, but right now I'm having the time of my life.

I think if I lived in a different part of the state, then I might like it more. Where I live now is far from everything and there isn't much diversity. I'm really ready for a change.

I love living in California - of course, I really don't know any other place. I moved here from Ohio as a 6 year-old. My husband is a native Californian and won't move. So far, our kids still live near-by. There are things about my State that I'm not thrilled with - but the weather makes up for a multitude of problems. And earthquakes are fun little encounters.

I think it's funny that some of the responses here don't identify what state you're from - quite puzzling.

I'm happy living in Texas even though I'd rather be in Houston or Hill Country. I don't see any reason to move anywhere else except Arkansas which I adore or maybe Louisiana.
