Just curious to know if you thoroughly check out your room when you first check into DVC, or just wait and see if you encounter any issues during your stay?

I have to say that if there were something obviously dirty or broken, I would definitely report it, but we don't go in and inspect the room looking to see if there are any issues. Guess I have too many other things I would rather be doing than inspecting my room--except for the view, I do inspect that.

I turn on the lights, check the tv remotes and just generally look around to see the condition of everything. No I don't crawl on my stomach in the kitchen to inspect the baseboards or look for runaway cheerios/fries under furniture.

Never have had a villa that hasn't been spotless.

We do a walk through and wash the dishes and utensils.

Anything broken, missing, or really in bad shape are reported immediately. We have learned that it may take a couple of days for Disney to respond so the sooner you report a problem, the better.

I said, yes, I spend a few minutes. I check out the view, I check the bathroom, coffeepot, microwave, cups, and I see if the garbage has been emptied. If it's a larger villa, I check the dishes and dishwasher. Once at OKW I noticed that I didn't have a cutting board and it came very quickly.

I read the reports here that tell of poor housekeeping, but I've not come across those sort of issues. I've called to have a door fixed and maybe one thing or another fixed, but we've had many many stays and we are very happy DVC members.

In the beginning I didn't check anything, but once you need something and it's late and you can't get it, the next time you use DVC, you give it a quick once over. I find that its's better to report issues early in the day, then maybe later, once you return from the parks etc., those things have been taken care of.

Twice I have had hornet issues on the balcony...once at OKW and once at AKV. In each case, someone was there within the hour. I think we were asked to be in the room.

Yup... We spend a few minutes checking things out.
We want to make sure the bed sheets are not gross, and the dishes / utensils are clean. Also, who wouldn't give the bathroom a quick once over?? That seems SOP to me.
That said, we don't go looking for stuff to gripe about. We are only interested in what will directly affect us.

I have not used my DVC yet (new member) but when I check into a hotel, I quickly look around to make sure everything is in order. I will so the same w/my DVC.

With the substandard housekeeping we have experienced the past few years, we definitely spend a few minutes checking out the unit. We learned from the housekeeping manager to also check the oven, since one time there were gobs of old melted cheese sticking to the racks.

I said yes, I do a quick check. I just walk around looking for the obvious; no remote, no DVD player, broken items stuff like that. In the kitchen I check the coffee pot, toaster and make sure I have a dish rack. Yes; I wash dishes. ;)

Bobbi ~ never knew there was a cutting board in the kitchen! :rotfl: Where would it have been? Next trip I'll look for it. :)

We were in a 1 bedroom, and there should be a cutting board. In studios, I have to bring my own. I have to have watermelon and fruit salad!

I was in a 1 BR also and don't remember seeing one. I'll look around next time.

Just a quick look for anything major that should be reported.

My husband and I spend a few minutes finding the most miniscule problems and seeing how we can turn them into major problems. Mostly to make fun of the types we call the whiners and turn them into a "food & whine-fest" DIS post, which we never post. We just make it up and laugh.

I check to make sure we have correct number of towels, enough soap and bedding for the pull-out, if we plan to use it. I also check to make sure the frig/freezer is working and cleaned out. We have had problems with all of these things at some time or other and it is easier to fix them right away. I don't worry about a little dust or fingerprints on the patio door, that kind of thing. If we find other things wrong while we are there I ALWAYS call immediately so the next guest will not have to deal with it. If the villa is really spotless I call the mousekeeping supervisor to compliment the mousekeeper and ask for the name. I tip that mousekeeper and thank her for being so conscientious.

We do a quick look see and make sure all is well. We have not washed the dishes or silverware before.... however sometimes I think this might not be a bad idea. Who knows if the person putting them away before we use them....had clean hands or washed them in the dishwasher. I am funny about that. I like my things cleaned in the dishwasher. We don't inspect the bedding or anything like that.

We just take a few minutes to look things over. One time we had to call house keeping because the kitchen wall's were a mess. It was something that should have been caught before we got into our room. But also makes you wonder what the people in the room before us where doing.

I always spend the first few minutes looking around & checking to make sure things are in working order. ex. remote, tv, lights etc. I always put all the dishes, glasses & untensils in the dishwasher. Like OP you never know if someone really washed it or not.
Usually everthing is in clean and in working order. Just normal wear and tear. The only time I've ever had to call maintenance was @ SSR last March. There was a missing front to one of the draws in the 2nd brdm & a light bulb was burnt out in front of the Washer/Dryer. They said we didn't need to be in the room. So off to the park we went & when we returned everything was in working order.

There are several people here that do the same thing (including me).
You see, this is my point.. This should NOT have to be done. Housekeeping should wash all dishes between guests IMO.
I don't mind paying the higher fees at DVC.. In fact, I welcome it as long as the job is done correctly. I don't want to pay top dollar for a half hiney job.

This is just something I do no matter where we stay. We just got home today from a weekend up in New Hampshire for a NASCAR race. We always stay @ the Marriott Residence Inn. DH thinks I'm crazy cuz the first thing I did was put everything in the dishwasher....lol. He wanted a drink & there was no glasses so he had to go down to the lobby to get a paper cup
I agree with you about housekeeping. They should be doing a proper job & then we would haven't to inspect their work.
