do you like your name?

Not so much. I tried going by my middle name here on the Dis but it just didn't feel right.

I hated it growing up. I like it now. And considering the other choices, I am sooo glad my mom named me! It comes from a Latin phrase meaning worthy of love, beloved, or lovable. I didn't run into another Amanda until high school, and even then she was only in choir with me...none of my other classes. But after that, I've always been the only Amanda at work or in my class. It seems this name is more common for girls born in the late 80s/early 90s than for my peer group.

What I don't like is people who think it is okay to address me as "Mandy," especially after I introduce myself as Amanda.

I actually tried to change it a couple of times in grade school. I started writing my name as Lisa. My middle name is Leisel(didn't like that either)so I just shortened it to Lisa. That didn't catch on so I renamed myself Jamie. I was a huuuge fan of the Bionic Woman and her name was Jamie Summers. I even signed my name like that on my school papers. My mother finally had to tell me to knock it off.

:rotfl: That's really funny. Whenever I would go somwhere that no one knew me, I would tell them that my name was Nicole. Don't know why, I just liked that name.

I like my name now. I remember when I was younger (well I'm only 23) I used to wish it was something else. Or whatever..

I always hated my name. Everyone always thought I was a boy. I used to get all the Army recruiter calls when I was in high school..."Is Rory there?"..."This is Rory"...."Oh, you're a girl!". Heard it a thousand times. Guess I didn't learn my lesson, though because I have a dd, Jordan, and a ds, Aubrey, which is a family name, but is becoming a popular name for girls...much to his dismay. My youngest, Delainey, I think could go either way as well.

I love my name, always have. The only thing I don't like are the nicknames. Very few people with the name Bernadette.

Bernadette was my confirmation name. :)

Mine is Deborah Jean and I like it. The only thing that bugs me is when people spell my nickname Debby instead of Debbie

I like mine alright I guess. Not to common, not to different. Some people insist on calling me Laura, but it's Laurie.
That's funny, people often want to call me Laurie. But I answer only to Laura!

And yup, I like my name. :teeth:

Yeah, I better like my name; I chose it! My dad insisted on naming me after my mother which became horribly confusing for both of us. After I became an adult my mum and I agreed that I should go ahead and legally change it so we wouldn't have to live with the constant confusion. So I went from Kathryn to Elayna. That was 15 years ago now. It was a pretty big thing to change my first name, but we had just moved to Washington State so very few people knew me by my former name. So it was easy to adapt to the change. I can't even imagine using the name I used for the first 21 years of my life. Even my mother says it doesn't fit me at all anymore!

I used to hate mine, but now I think it is kinda cool. I was named after the Miranda Rights http://www.expertlaw.com/library/criminal/miranda_rights.html ("You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be held against you in the court of Law...."). My dad is a former street cop, undercover narcotics detective and Police Chief so the name is fitting. I got my degree in Criminal Justice so everyone really got a kick out of my name. :thumbsup2

I just think it's cool to watch Court TV and all those other shows and someone says, "Has the suspect been 'Miranda-ized' yet?" :cool1:

ETA: My last name is "Coffey" so my whole name is perfect for someone in the law-enforcement field. :lmao:

Nope, but couldn't bring myself to change it because I'm named after my dad, Carl. Apparently Carla is more common among AA. Many people have told me over the years that they were quite surprised when I (blonde/blue eyed) gave my name.

I LOVE the name Carla! I think it's beautiful and even better b/c it's after your dad! :)

All but the last name. Husband and I want to change our last name so were not connected to certain crazy relatives :rotfl:

You can't win with that name! I named my son Jonathon, but people insist on calling him Jon. He's begun to resign himself to it, but I still correct people, like teachers and such.

Yes, I like my name. But I won't answer to "Mary"...it's just not my name. However, some people do call me Mare, which is fine with me.

I was named for my Dad, Carl, too. However, since my cousin Karla was also named for him, my folks chose "Carole" instead. I do like my name. :goodvibes

Oh, I'm blonde and blue-eyed, too. :)

I like mine. It's Christina Anne Elisabeth Rose. I've always thought it was kind of pretty (though long!)

Nope, I don't like my name very much at all, I never have. It's Donna. Whenever I would meet someone and tell them my name they would break into the "OH DONNA" song by Richie Valens
