Do you like receiving gift cards?

I love getting them and would rather get that then something I really don't want. I hate to sound ungrateful about getting a gift, but I just would rather buy what I want then something that is going to sit in my closet for years.

Ditto! I'd much rather get a gift card than take the time to list all the Christmas presents I don't like/need on eBay.

However, in this situation, I would rather make it something a little more personal. What about movie gift tickets? When I was in high school (really, it wasn't that long ago!) AAA sold $5 movie passes. That's a bit more personal than a $10 Target gift card, for example.

I LOVE gift cards. I think it's mostly because I enjoy shopping and with a giftcard I can do so guilt-free.

Off topic, but holy cow katerkat! 24 weeks already! Your pregnancy seems to be flying by (for me at least ;)) How are you feeling?

Oh and as to the OP, I like gift cards, much better than getting something that I will not use.

Feeling fine, other than the heartburn! It does seem to be flying - and I hope it continues to, since DH is deployed for the next two months. By the time he gets backs, BR will be nearly ready to come out!

Oh man, I remember the heartburn, everything I consumed gave me HB, even water. I lived on Tums!

Good to hear your Dh will be back soon, perfect timing. Glad to hear all is well, I love the name Russ, btw...I'll bet you can't wait to see him!!!

take care!

The OP is in a difficult situation with this gift. It is so hard to get a gift when you don't know who will receive it. How can you put a lot of thought into a gift in this situation.

I am neutral about gift cards. It is often a chore for me to use them, since I typically receive them at stores where I don't shop. I think the bookstore is a nice, neutral place and the idea of a nice bookmark makes your idea very tasteful.

If you back out, my generic gift is always a nice photo frame.

I like them except we have gotten a few that were a real hassle to use because there were none of the stores around here and you couldn't use them on-line. I know we had an awful time finding a FYE store to use ours in when it didn't work on-line ( we tried and it would always cancel the order) and we went to 3 different towns to find an abercombe store to use because it wouldn't work on-line ( I think the ones they sell now do but ours didn't have enought #'s). We have had resturants go out of business before we used the cards so we did learn to use those quickly!!

Not me, never have liked gift cards. If I am given them for a store that sells household stuff (food, paper products, etc) I end up using them on stuff not for me. Or if they are for other stores I ussually can never pick something, I prefer a gift.

I'll be giving some gift cards and hoping to get some.

MIL & MOM - Pub 99 for dinner
MOM - Shaws along w/a Keep Well basket (tums, kleenex, halls, lip balm, purell, etc)
MOM - movie theatre (doesnt do Blockbuster) along w/cream savers (thats the only candy I know she likes and dont think she eats popcorn). This way she can have dinner & a movie
DS - Blockbuster (on a popcorn tin)
DSs friend - Blockbuster (he's a teen - never know what to get him)
DHs friend - Dunkin Donuts cert (for all the times he's bought me coffee!)
BOSS - Dunkin Donuts cert (w/sm bag french vanilla)- I picked her name in a $10 grab (she's always getting coffee on her lunch break)

Normally I like getting gift cards somewhat but really for 10.00 I wouldn't really care for it. Simply because even if it was for a store I liked unless I really needed something I wouldn't make a trip out for 10.00. And normally I end up using them for other peoples gifts, I got a 50.00 Macys one from a friend at work last year and used it to buy my mom a coat for her birthday in Jan.

The older I get, the more I LOVE to receive them!!!!!!! I especially love the ones for "doing" things, such as dinner, plays, movies etc.

I love to get them, but I don't like to give them.

I much prefer gift cards, but I do know people who do find them impersonal. While I like getting gifts, I almost always have to return or exchange them - not that I really didn't like them, but because it was either too big, not the right color, not the right scent etc. I much prefer a gift card, so I can get what I like and be done with it!!

For this I wouldn't mind. It is when individuals I am close to give them to me that I would rather they not.

I don't mind them I just never know what to buy for myself, I still have $100 gift card left over from last Christmas for the mall, can be used in any store. Sometimes i forget to bring it with me when I go or I just don't see anything I want.

Lol! Same here.

Also as another poster mentioned, I love receiving them but a $10 GC seems just a bit too much trouble for what it's worth. When the sum is that small, a gift with a personal and thoughtful touch goes a much longer way, I think. It's very hard to make $10 meaningful and that's the challenge and ultimately what will be appreciated by the recipient.:)
