Do you leave your keys in the ignition?

I never leave the keys in the ignition and I never leave my son in the car while it is running, even if I am running right to the ATM or something. I have seen so many people leave their cars running while they run to the ATM, Post Office or a convenience store, it just amazes me.

My mom keeps her keys in the car which is locked in the garage. Sounds like a bad idea to me, but who am I? Besides, the car is a piece.

No way would I leave the keys in the Tank, or the Chrysler either.

Someone takes my Tank and they are in for a fight!

What makes me nuts is parents who leave their kids in the car with it running to run into the convienience store. That is soooooooo dangerous!

That IS dangerous, not to mention STUPID! It's dangerous even if you don't leave a kid or pet in the car. I can't believe anyone would think it's ok to leave a helpless being in there who could inadvertently lock the doors or shift gears.

I keep hearing that it's illegal to leave your car running here. There must be a commercial playing that states that... I can't remember where I keep hearing it.

I did it once-like CamColt, I had too much on
my mind and came back to the car running,
unlocked with the keys in the ignition. I was
amazed at my air-headed move and that the
thing was still there!

Very, very, very rarely I will leave the keys in the car in the driveway for a short period of time or in our garage.

My husband's company car has a tricky ignition, one of those that if you get it in the wrong position, you might never get the key out ot turn the ignition on. I've had to call him to come help me turn the darn thing! Anyway, a few days ago, it happened to him. He struggled with it and finally got the key to come out. He was fiddling with the ignition and the car started, with no key! I don't know if he's tried to see if it will keep starting that way, I know he always takes the keys out and locks the doors.
I remember a few years ago, my mother and her friend came out of a big mall and got into her friends car. She started up the car and began to drive away. They noticed that there were things inside the car that weren't there before. It wasn't her car!
Oooops!
