Do you know Jesus?

I have to admit I'm a bit creeped out by people choosing to witness from the grave at their funeral

ya think?

I want to go out like the Vikings. throw me on a raft and float me out to sea on fire.

Mike, when my Grandmother died I got a call from my mom after the funeral. apparently there were family members calling her questioning why I didn't cry during the funeral or at the burial. sometimes you just can't do anything right.

If you think what you posted was appropriate after reading my posts, then we have nothing further to talk about.

I said nothing mean or nasty to you. I actually sympathized with you for your loss. since when was it not okay here to just add our own opinion on a subject. I didnt say you had to share in my beliefs I just simply stated mine. Are you always so easily offended? sorry certainly not my intentionand I believe that was clear in my post. Can you please tell me what was so offensive to you so maybe I can better my posts in the future.

I think I made myself pretty clear jamimb and to try and put this all on me being easily offended is even more rude than your first post. Give it a rest already. :sad2:

basas... not wanting to be witnessed to during a family member funreal does not make one anti Christian. However running across post like yours reminds me why I distance myself from people like you.

sha_lyn;

Given the number of times that you and I have disagreed on a number of subjects, I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge that I am in complete agreement with every word of this post.

LOL.... trying to think of something witty, but I'm at a loss.

I've found there are several posters that I can agree with 100% on some subjects, yet disagree with 100% on others. Wouldn't this be a boring place if we all agreed?

I am very sorry for your loss and very sorry that you were offended but that being said I just had to chime in with my opinion. I am a born again Christian and I as most born again Christians beleive that the one and only way to heaven is to put my faith and trust in Jesus and the sacrifice he made for me on the cross. I have a few close family members that are not Christians and have not put their trust in Jesus or asked forgiveness of their sins so I do beleive that if these family members died today they would go to hell. I have talked to my husband and requested that if I died before him that I would have a funeral service similar to your grandmother's. I beleive no i know I am going to Heaven and I know that our eternal state is really brought to the forfront of our thoughts when someone close to us dies so I would like my funeral to be an opportunity for my loved ones who dont have eternal security in Jesus to have a chance to make that decision. I have made it known that I want salvation through Jesus preached at my funeral. I love my family and I would want them to have the same peace and security that I have. I have heard several occasions of people being saved at funerals. I think that the people at this particular church could have been maybe more tactful but it sounds like what they did would have maybe pleased your grandmother so take comfort in that. I have never been able to understand why preaching Jesus or eternal salvation is so offensive. I have been to funerals where things i dont believe have been preached and not been offended, especially when I knew it was the beliefs of the deceased. I am truly sorry for your loss. When someone I know dies and they are a christian I am very sad formyself and their loved ones but not for them. I believe they are truly "home".

This is why I find the preaching Jesus as eternal salvation irritating, the Dalai Lama is a man who has preached love and peace all his life but according to you he will go to hell because he is not a christian. Hitler on the other hand was responsible for the deaths of millions BUT he was a christian so according to your rules he gets in.

:worship: :thanks:

It's not a trick. Many people willingly leave money to their church, but it's not for their own salvation. It's to help the church bring the Gospel to others.

And therein lies the rub as they say! :sad2:

Mike - I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother. When my Grandmother died in 1996 we too had a bad experience with a 'church' funeral. Firstly, as others have said, my Gran was an infrequent visitor to church but the 'vicar' (as we have in the UK) didn't bother to find out many details about her at all. Her brother was paying for the funeral (he's the 'rich' one and promised to take care of such things) and the vicar spoke to him but not to my uncle (her son) or myself, my sister or my cousins (her grandchildren). Consequently really important things - like my correct name! - were wrong and then to add insult to injury, the vicar started 'preaching' about going to heaven (or not) - even though my Gran would have hated this!

The 'best' funeral I've ever been to was a hunmanist funeral. IUt was TOTALLY about the person who had died - no preaching or 'threats' about the hereafter. I have already said to my DH that I defiantly want something similar should I 'go' first!

I just checked my mail, and in my box was something that I think sheds some light on just how some on the the Christian side will never "get" what we are saying

Come and See Us Easter Sunday
A non-religious, rock music, wear your jeans, bring in your coffee all out worship to God.

Something can not be non-religious and also be an All Out worship to God.

It's like some of the homeschoolers or homeschool groups around here.
They advertise themselves as all inclusive to members of all faiths, yet require members to sign a statement of faith...oh we allow all faiths, Baptist, Methodist, Presbeterian etc.
Or the lady on a secular homeschoolers list who raged because the used curriculum sale guidelines did not allow the sale of religious homeschool materials. She claimed we was being descriminated agaisnt because she believes in God.

one of my favorite quotes from Caddyshack:

Bishop: Why don't you come on down to our new Lutheran center?
Danny Noonan: I've often thought about becoming a priest.
Bishop: Oh, are you a Roman Catholic?
[Danny nods]
Bishop: Oh, then I'm sorry, but I'm afraid you can't come.
