Taken from another thread, do you know anyone, or have met anyone famous?

At my old company, we would put a quarterly newsletter. We always had cool stuff in there, and one time we asked everyone to write in if they knew anyone famouse. We got really cool responses, and I would love to hear yours! It could be someone you personally know, have met, or maybe even just saw from a distance.

Me- I knew Gene Nelson, the actor from movies like Oaklahoma and Kissin' Cousins and with the Director on Elvis Presley's movie Harum Scarum.

I saw Michael Jackson at Disney World back in the 1980's. He was at the American pavillion in Epcot.

I saw Sammy Sosa filming a commercial in Philly. I was walking from the bus on my way to work, I waved to him and he waved back. Yes I know he was waving to me because for once it was completely dead on 15th street in Center City.

I know one famous person very well...our kids are in school together, we socialize as a couple. He is the lead singer of a well-known rock band. Very nice, normal down to earth people.

I know Scott Wells, center for the Green Bay Packers and 2011 Super Bowl champion. I also know Tim Blake Nelson, director and actor (O Brother Where Art Thou, Holes, The Good Girl).

I have met Kathleen Battle (opera singer), Ben Stein, Ann Coulter, and Star Parker (all three are conservative activists). I only spoke to Kathleen Battle and Ben Stein, but I had dinner with Ann Coulter and Star Parker (on separate occasions).

I've met lots of famous people, but the only person I really KNEW was Walter Payton. He and his wife Connie were neighbors of ours back in the 80's. He was a class act and he died way too young. :sad2:

I also used to babysit for some of the kids of Chicago Cubs back in the late 70's.

Other than that I have talked to Donny Osmond, John Madden, McLean Stevenson (of M*A*S*H fame), Elvira, Mistress of the Dark and Diahann Carroll. Oh, and I met Kenny Rogers outside the AKL many years ago.

I know Dave Borkowski, former MLB pitcher for the Astros (among others). Now a pitching coach for the Lexington Legends (A ball).

Personally, no. But my cousins ex-husband married Barbara Walters.

I was in the same class at school as the woman who now plays Harry Potter's mum. He's probably not known in the States but the guy who used to play Arthur Dent in Hitch-hikers' guide to the galaxy judged all our school drama competitions as he knew our teacher.

Met Princess Diana a few times when I worked in a famous department store (not impressed at all with her), Roger Taylor from Queen (very nice), Pierce Brosnan (not nice), Met quite a few famous people there - great place for star-spotting!

Harrison Ford walked past me in the street once in London. I thought I'd imagined it for a moment before I realised he was here filming!

My husband is a cousin to both Verne Troyer (Mini-Me from Austin Powers) and Penn Jilllete (comedian/magician from the duo Penn& Teller). Verne is from his father's side, Penn is from his mother's side.

I am friends with Mary Jo Putney who writes a lot of romance novels.

I went to high school with Billy Ray Cyrus. He graduated 2 years ahead of me. He wasn't really involved in any of the music or drama programs. His claim to fame back then was being an athlete (he was a receiver on our state title football team, and also was a very good baseball player) and dating the prom queen. :) He was also a very nice guy.

Over the years I've met a lot of famous people but most wouldn't remember me (so therefore I wouldn't count it as "knowing" someone). Out of the famous people who know who I am I will count 1 actor/producer who I dated in high school; a childhood friend/neighbor who is a screenwriter; and a few of dh's relatives - one who was very high up in one of the networks, and one who was on one of the weekly news shows, and one who was some type of producer for a hit comedy show.

My cousins friend and sister's friend from high school is married to Nick Jonas. Such a sweet guy. They are in town frequently and he is always so nice to all the teeny boppers who chase him down in the food store and ice cream shop lol. My family is close with Laura Sangiacoma and her family (Julia Roberts friend in Pretty Woman). We are also friendly with Furio from Soprano's (Federico Castelluccio) he is an incredible artist as well, which most people don't know.

My brother once stood at a urinal next to Bo Jackson. I don't think they shook hands.

I am friends with several best-selling authors (southern female authors). They are my mentors (because I am trying to get published). :)

I also used to know Telly Savalas (he was a friend of my grandfather's); Grandpa from Hee Haw (he was my mom's godfather); and my uncle was a popular State Senator but all three men have passed now. :( I still know politicians Newt Gingrich and Johnny Isaakson though, as they were friends and colleagues of my uncle. I also know some of the past Braves baseball players, who also were friends and played golf with my grandfather.

Oh, and I went to high school with actor Walton Goggins. He isn't a huge name, but is in a series on TNT and in the new movie Cowboys and Aliens and he won an Oscar a few years ago for an Indy short film. :)

Morten Harket is my 1st cousin. I know, he's not famous anymore (well, not here in the US), but he used to be :rotfl: Remember the group a-ha?

I loved a-ha when I was in high school. That was when they released their very first album with Take on Me. Do you know the other two as well?

No, I've only met the other two once and that was back in the 90s.

My grandfather is famous in a few circles... amoung the older crowd. LOL He plays trumpet/saxophone with Merle Haggard.

I have met lots of people as I lived in LA for awhile.
