Do you keep your Disney life secret?

Sadly... very few people know we own DVC. They do know we are Disney FREAKS though. If people find out we are going to Disney I just say we got a trade into the resort or I swapped with someone with my Hawaii resort. Very few know we have timeshares too. We picked timeshares over owning a vacation home because it fits our lifestyle better. But we get tired of people 2nd guessing our decision so, we don't tell them. They just think we love Disney and going to Hawaii. I'm sure it is all envy but I don't get it.

Everyone knows I've turned into a disney nut. My family knows about DVC, DH only a few know.

We have told everyone and, at first, no one understood. Now a few have come around and some are starting to. But they all think that I am a little crazy. :)

What I find amazing is how they LOVE to tease me bout my Disney Life, UNTILL they need Disney advice or planning tips then all of sudden I'm the goto guy.....THEN not so funny....Oh well love to help out anyway:confused3

All my friends know how much we love Disney, I have had one person say, why do you always go there why don't you try somewhere else? Well we do go other places, but we also go to Disney every year aswell cause we like it! My husband has friends who love it there aswell , so much they are buying vacation homes aswell with us there! PPL thought we were nuts buying DVC untill I explained it to them and now one is actually buying it aswell and a few are thinking about it. I don't care what people think about our love of Disney , cause untill they do it they will always have something negative to say about it, and thats fine they are the ones missing out!

Everyone outside of work knows about our love for Disney and DVC. We do get tired of the comments about going again. I was over my brothers house yesterday and his sister in-law was there visiting. Now, in the past she was one of those who made off-the cuff comments about Disney and DVC. Well now she is planning a big trip to Disney. Who does she turn to for help....me! How can I help her with her Disney trip, including with lodging.

It amazes me how often those who sneer and chuckle at us, always come to us for advice and guidance for thier Disney trips.

It's no secret at my dh's office, in fact, his office is filled with Mickey and POC. And even though the boss' son works as a DLR character, they ask us about the park and WDW. So this week, my dh finds out that the fellow in the next office is going to WDW, didn't ask for help or recommendations.
But then he booked AS Sports and is going during Spring Break, so maybe he thought he knew better. I would have recommended Pop Century<G>

Hey...sshh

this is my deepest darkest secret. i just recently fell in love with WDW. Itook my daugter to Disney for the first time in her life last August and she was in LOVE. we went to BBB and spent what i call a small fortune...everytime i take about disney i get that inevitable again statement. i thought i was going crazy but it is not only me. i now try to minimize my conversation and stay of topic i already have two trips planned for this year. I recently became a DVC member which secretly pleases me more than ever. GOD gave me the best daughter ever becasue before we even made it to Disney for our first trip the love was festering in the both of us. She will be five this year and every year has been a big DISNey part. Every here calls there kids DS and DD but before I even found out about the DIS I would refer to my Michey (yes her name is Michey pronouced like Mickey but at least short fr Michaela) as my disney daughter. she really is my disney daughter she loves everything disney from the c hannel to the website. i love her more than anything because my loves are her love. we love disney. she doesnt of course get the concept of being DVC members but this is my first really gift to her love mommy.

ps i feel like i just let go of my deepest darkest secret so please hold on to it for me:wizard:

My DH's family are the true "again" brigade, however, my MIL has gone on so many cruises she no longer will get off the ship when in port. Go firgure...to each their own. My mom and I went to WDW every year for at least a week around her birthday leaving DH and DKs at home. :goodvibes We lost mom 2 years ago and I really miss those trips. However, what wonderful memories I have and that is what it is all about for me. Now with DVC I take my children and grandchildren making, what I hope, are lifetime memories. So I don't advertise we own DVC but, as with many of you, people seem to know who to talk to about a Disney vacation.

Guess who asked to come along on our 09 family trip to AKV? You're right!! My MIL. ;)

Not sure why people feel comfortable trying to rain on anyone's parade with the whole "again" statements. Not like they are paying for the trip.

My coworker approached me today to tell me she is buying into DVC after her WDW trip last week. Yes! Now maybe I'll have somebody at work to talk to about my obsession. Maybe someday I'll share the DISboards with her but then I might have to be more careful about what I post;)

I was a part-time CM at a local Disney Store when I joined DVC. (This is when Disney still owned the TDS), and everyone at the store where Disney-addicts, but I was only the 2nd person at the store who had joined DVC. Everyone else at the store who went (often multiple times a year) preferred to go on their discount. I did have 2 people give me grief about joining, and one even gave me the "You fell into THAT trap? Hahahaha!" - Of course this is the same person who has been going to WDW for YEARS (long before becoming a CM), and only stays at the YC. I can't imagine how many points she could have had if she had bought into DVC, of course now that her son works for DVC she at least "gets it" (although still hasn't bought in).

At my job that paid for my Disney-addiction, my boss and immediate co-workers either get it, or at least know it's just me and lets it go with only positive comments and mild curiosity. (I planned my bosses trip a couple years ago, and she's still trying to figure out how to go again.) The other people at work just kind of laugh. They see my passion for Disney and just think it's cool. They also like having someone to go to whenever they start to think about a Disney trip. (Plus I'm a computer tech... they know to keep me happy. :surfweb: ) I do admit I don't talk about it as much as I use to. I only bring it up if asked, and try to judge my conversation by the look on their faces.

Outside of work, my friends know of my Disney obsession and just go with it. I honestly think they would faint if I told them I went on vacation somewhere other then Disney. Oh and the really fun part... My Primary Care Physician is a DVC member, and my Dentist is a Disney addict too (although I haven't convinced him to join DVC - yet).

My Mom and Dad (divorced w/ their own separate families) have been going to Disney every year for years (not together), of course they started AFTER I moved out of the house :headache:. So telling them was a non-issue.

MY DP's work gives him the "Again" thing, but he just eats it up, and bombards their cell phones w/ Pix msg's while we are on vacation. His family is really supportive too, we took them to Disney soon after we bought into DVC, and they know we are planning another big family trip as soon as the nephews get old enough.

Ah, another pix messenger from WDW! I like to tease friends and family with play-by-play pix messages of rides, parades, characters ans such! Let's me get in the last laugh.

I have been a Disney fan since my nursery had Mickey wallpaper. I don't feel the need to hide it from anyone. There are people who don't get it, but I couldn't care less. Shorter park wait times for me. :)

I agree with a PP who said she talks about Disney, but not so much DVC. That sums up my perspective. We are a late 20's couple with no kids, so we get lots of strange looks, but I don't really care. No need to let them know we've committed to 40+ years of Disney vacations!

Strange, I know, but I've always felt like there are "regular people" and then there are "Disney people." Until I did the WDW College Program, and to a larger extent, found the DIS, I did not know so many other "Disney people" existed. It's like I've found home again! To know I'm not the only one who makes vacation spreadsheets or sets their alarm to make 180-day out CRT reservations is pretty darn cool. Not to mention, I love it when people get phrases like "We're going to catch a bus to MK, ride the Mountains, go on IASW, hop a monorail to the Poly for our ADR at Ohana and then go to MGM to ride Tower and RnR before hitting PI."

Yup. As a computer geek, I love speaking acronyms and watching the clueless go cross-eyed. Just havve to be careful not to mixup your languages in mid-sentence.

But I'm seriously missing out on the pix messaging. I always wait till later to e-mail my high res photos.

So who else puts up Disney wallpaper on their computers? The obscure kind that make the uninitiated wonder what cool place is that. (I had pics of England up when workmates thought it was from my London trip. They were shocked to learn this was the Disney version.)

They all know I go every year (i.e. Disney again???), but I've held my DVC membership close to my chest. I'm not ready to defend myself on that yet.

My immediate family completely gets it and can't wait to do another family trip. Most of the time we get the comment "Disney is for kids." We don't have children but as you all know there are plenty of adult things to do at the World.

My good friend didn't get it and kept saying that she went 30 years ago with her family and it wasn't that fun. So I invited her to go with DH and I. When she came back she told everyone that it was by far the best vacation that she has ever been on and asks me every year when can she go back with us.

At my current job there are lots of people that are fomer Disney CM's so they get it. Since we work for an airline and can fly for free, they go back even more than me. That makes me feel less crazy.

I wear my Disney badge proudly and everyone knows it! Let them make fun because I most certainly wont be inviting them to stay with me on any upcoming trips!!! :goodvibes

Got the "what are you doing in Talbot's" by the salesperson, when my sister mentioned we've been to WDW twice since November and leaving Sat. for Disney's Vero Beach. I was about to put down the armload of stuff(not from the mark down rack) and walk out.
