Dd is 9yo and ds is 5yo...they share their desktop and we don't plan on getting them separate ones or laptops. When dd enters 9th grade our high school provides a laptop for each student...so we aren't going to bother buying one for her until college!

We have two older/outdated laptops that we really don't ever use. One is a Mac and one is a PC.

Then we have a desktop PC that dh wanted to get for "the kids" but he uses it 99% of the time. He also has a work issued laptop. I have a Mac laptop that is mine primarily. But when the kids need to do something for school they use that instead of the computer that is supposed to be for them.

I have a laptop that I use for everything including work.

DD has her own laptop but she is away at school.

We have a desktop that everyone uses. It has a larger monitor and we watch netflix or hulu on it a lot or DH plays some games. We just replaced the tower and it is quite zippy now!

And we have at least 3 older laptops that are functional but slow so are very seldom used.

We have more computers than people at our house. I'm actually worried that if they ever decide to revolt and take over, we will be greatly outnumbered.

:thumbsup2 As I read this and started counting our computers I was shocked at how many we have LOL....3 people in the house and we have 2 desktops and 4 laptops -- other things that connect to internet we have 2 itouchs and 2 color nooks!

Two people, 3 desktops, 3 laptops, 2 iPads, although one laptop is work specific and one desktop is my gaming rig and no one other than myself is allowed to touch that.

I have my own. DH & the boys got me a netbook for Mothers' Day last year, and it's all mine. DH has no desire to use it, and DS10 doesn't touch it without asking, and it's very rare that he does that. He did use it this afternoon to look up something he forgot on a school project he's working on.

DH uses "our" old laptop, he takes it to work with him, and he has all of his photography stuff on it. If either of the boys needs a computer, they use the desktop, but they have to ask permission for that.

We had 2 computers for 5 people until this past Christmas. DH works from home when he's not travelling, so he has his own laptop for work that no one else touches.
I have a desktop that my 3 kids were battling me with trying to do homework, research and schoool projects on. It got crazy, since more and more of their work is required to be done on the computer (don't get me started...)
So DS16 pleaded for his own laptop and we gave in for Christmas/Birthday for my own sanity. I wish I could use his when he's at school sometimes, if I could only figure out how to use the darn thing! (Mac).

Sounds like my house, but only two kids here. I feel like a master scheduler sometimes..."ok, so how long will your assignment take? You do yours first, and while you are at basketball, your brother will do his, and then we'll see who needs it most after practice"...it's getting ridiculous. We really need to invest in a laptop. ::yes::

We each have laptops and a favorite place in the house where we like to use them. I sit in the side chair in my bedroom, DH sits in the recliner in the den and DS just lands about anywhere. We also have a standalone in the office that we hardly use. We have three printers too so we don't have to run the length of the house to get what we printed. I just updated some of my software. That's the biggest problem I see; it's hard to keep everything up to date and when you buy software, the manufacturer doesn't want you to download more than twice. Thus someone is always behind on something.

Exactly! Very familiar!:goodvibes

Two people, two computers and we share. We have a MacBook Pro that goes all over the place and an iMac in the office.

I have my own desktop and a laptop. NO ONE TOUCHES EITHER!!!!;)

They all have their own...desktops and laptops ....soooo every man for himself!:thumbsup2

1 desktop computer from 2005. 4 people, daughters are 10 and 7. We hardly every use the computer. Both my wife and I tend to jump on for an hour or less to surf and the kids jump on about 2-3 times per week.

I do have a work laptop that I tend to bring home on the weekends or extended time off (vacations, holidays...) I bring it home thinking I'll use it over the weekend with guitar videos so I don't have to sit in the basement on the desktop with my guitar, but it always ends up just sitting out in my car until I go back to work.

In fact, I don't even use the work laptop at work either. I don't think it's been turned on since Christmas break. I'm never in my office and have 4 other work areas that I am normally stationed at.

We've got 4 people and 5 computers. Each of us has a laptop and we have one desktop in the living room. We don't really use each others computers at all. I use mine for personal, school and work stuff, the kids use theirs for school and games and dh uses his own for gaming, videos and such. The desktop is rarely used - like one other poster said - if the kids lose their privileges and need a computer for homework, they'll use that one. It's got all our music on it, so I'll use it to play music in that room since there's no stereo in there.

That will be changing quickly!!! I can't believe the 10 yr old doesn't need it for school work more often than that? But don't worry very soon She will need it everyday and then for hours everyday.

Wait until your oldest starts middle school. She will need the computer for school more and more. I have on in MS and one in HS....all of their books are on-line. My HS'er doesn't even have "real" books...all on-line. They use the computer for homework every single night.

We both have our own computers. We each have a laptop and desktop.

I have my laptop, we have a desktop that mom uses and my dad occasionally uses, but he has the iPad so he doesn't need to often. My brother only needs the desktop for homework every now and then, otherwise he doesn't use the computer.

I have one PC laptop, Macbook, Mac desktop and my boyfriend has a desktop PC which he uses for gaming and he has a Macbook pro. My PC laptop is 4 year old HP and still works good. The Macbook and Mac desktop are 6 months old. My boyfriend's PC is a year old and his MBP is 2 years old.
