Or recurring themes in a dream??
I keep dreaming that I'm at a normal place (school, mall, friends house, disney, etc.) and there are these rickety bridges that I have to cross to get to anything I need to get to.

I also have recurring scary elevator dreams....like the elevator is somehow broken and only stops on half floors or it is super rickety or is somehow broken, but I HAVE to take it cuz I'm late for something or have to save someone or something like that.

What recurring dreams do you have?

From DreamMoods.com

Bridge
To dream that you are crossing a bridge, signifies an important decision or a critical junction in your life. This decision will prove to be a positive change with prosperity and wealth in the horizon. Bridges represent a transitional period in your life where you will be moving on to a new stage.

To dream of a run-down bridge, indicates that you should not contemplate any major changes in your life at this time.

To see a bridge collapse in your dream, denotes that you have let a great opportunity pass you by.

To dream that you are ascending in an elevator, signifies that you will quickly rise to status and wealth. You may have risen to a higher level of consciousness and are looking at the world from an elevated viewpoint. Descending in an elevator, denotes that misfortunes will crush and discourage you. The up and down action of the elevator may represent the ups and downs of your life go emerging out of and submerging into your subconscious.

To dream that the elevator is out of order or that it is not letting you off, symbolizes that your emotions have gotten out of control.

To dream that an elevator is falling out of control, refers to your fears of letting go. You may also be expressing your desire to give up and escape from some demanding situation. If the elevator stops just right before it crashes, then it indicates that if you hang on long enough, everything will turn out all fine in the end.

Put me down as one of those people that dreams about plane crashes. I have had these dreams for many many years. When I found out that they were extending the run way at our local airport I just about had a panic attack. It is really just a small airport but since they extended the runway we now get some of the smaller jets that only seat like 5 people. I work as a 911 dispatcher and I dreamed that a plane crashed next door and I called 911 and my coworker told me I was crazy that there had not been a plane crash and would not send me any help. It took me a long time to forgive her even though in real life she had not done anything wrong. How messes up is that to hold somebody responsabile for something they did in a dream?

I have a consistent dream where I am trying to dial the phone - sometimes 911, sometimes just a friend, but I mis-dial and have to start over. And mis-dial and have to start over. And mis-dial . . . . You'd think I'd be confident I could dial a total of THREE numbers in an emergency, but I mis-dial and . . . ..

My dreams often are about moving into a different house. The house is always much bigger and nicer than mine.

Also I have a lot of dreams about my mom, and in the dream I am aware she has passed away, but just react as if she is just visiting. She just pops in to say hi or give me some advice then she disappears.

Oh I forgot, I have that one frequently too. For me, it's always 911. I'm trying to call and can't get a dial tone, or I can't dial properly, or I get put on hold, or get disconnected. I'm never aware of what the emergency is, just know there is one.

I used to have what I called my "police dreams". I would have them about once a week or so....... My brother and I are adults. I would be living at my mom's, (which I havent lived there in about 30 years). She is not home. My brother is there. There is someone trying to break in to rob us, or hurt us in some way. I try calling the police......they have changed their number :confused3 . The phone is disconnected, they put me on hold forever, etc. never connecting my calls to them. I run outside, there is a patrol car going by, but he says he can't help me because it is not his 'area' today. (this town is maybe 1 square mile) In the meantime, this someone is banging on the doors, windows, trying to come into the house. I usually wake up heart pounding, and shaky.

When I was a little girl, I used to dream that my parents were driving me down a dark street and they would leave me there next to a wall.

Behind the wall was a wolf, and I would peek around the corner of the wall and see him.and each time I had the dream, the wolf would get closer and closer. Then he was finally right next to me, and then I never had that dream again.

Another recurring dream was about an umbrella, that would start coming toward me and I slammed the point of it in a door and the point started throwing up. :confused3 Scared the crap out of me as a kid.

I keep having this dream that I am in a pool and this big, sexy, handsome man comes up behind me and tells me how much he loves me  when I turn around, he is gone and I'm talking to myself :confused3

No one has mentioned this, so hopefully no one will think I'm nuts. This dream usually happens when I'm retaining water or wake up having to go to the bathroom.

I dream that I'm looking for a bathroom because I have to go really bad. The toilet is inaccessible for various reason. Pools of sewage surround it, it's in an open room with tons of people standing around it, it's on the ceiling and I would have to climb a ladder and perch upside down to use it, etc. The most common themes are filth and no privacy - the other circumstances change.

Oh, I have that dream a lot! Same themes, except for the ceiling part (okay, that detail is a little weird ;) ). I'm always searching for the magic toilet.

I frequently have dreams about two of my biggest fears. Tornados and elevators. The tornado dreams are especially vivid and realistic. Very scary! The elevator dreams are always that the elevator is not only falling, it is flipping all around like some carnival ride. The dreams always have ended up ending on their own or I wake myself up. I've also had a few very frightening plane crash nightmares. Those also scare me so much that I end up waking myself up. Oh boy, I bet I'll have a scary dream tonight!

Let's journey into my phyche.

1. My most stressful recurring dream is the one where I'm passing by a class and I realize "Hey. I remember signing up for this class, and I even went once or twice that first week, and now I see they're settling in to take the final. Wonder if I can fudge my way through this Algebra test. Guess I have to now since the professor has seen me, although he can't figure out my name because I HAVEN'T BEEN HERE IN THREE MONTHS!"
I figure this one is an ode to my slacker years. Perhaps I fear that I'm inadequate and ill-prepared for my everyday life. And the professor spotting me is maybe my fear of being busted for being inadequate and ill-prepared. Dang. That sucks.

2. I also have that freaky "I have got to make this emergency phone call if only I could punch...in...these...stinkin'...numbers...properly :furious: Hmmm. More feelings of inadequacy and lack of control?

3. The horrid bathroom sequence cue the pshyco music. How many times have I ran through my dream just looking for a decent place to tinkle? I find plenty of stalls in the public restrooms, but they're all nasty as all get out; and then sometimes I'll find one that's sparkly clean but it's out in the middle of the room. Ooooh. :guilty:
Of course those are when I wake up and gotta go!

4. The classic "Hmmm. I should probably be wearing a shirt right about now." So weird because I'll often dream that I'm running around sans shirt (or bra :scared1: ) and it doesn't really seem like it's a big deal. It's kinda like it's OK. But I'm still very uncomfortable and thinking, these people do not care that I'm half naked, but I'm really not diggin' it, so I think I'll drape this tablecloth about my torso.
Hmmm. What's that about?

5. And finally. I often dream that I'm all of a sudden starring in a stage production and haven't got a clue what I'm supposed to do or say. I try to memorize a few lines real quick, but am frightfully unprepared. They end up pushing me out onto the stage where I flub my way through for a few seconds and am somehow saved by someone or some distraction that interrupts the play.
Again. Inadequate and ill-prepared.

Perhaps I should seek counselling?

From these posts it is a recurring theme among DISers to dream that we can't call 911 in an emergency - anyone else find that interesting as I do?

And the bathroom one too - I had forgotten about mine until I read these. Hmmm...

Yeah the 911 thing blows my mind. When called upon to carry out the simplest task to save the life of a loved one... I am utterly useless!
Good thing I'm not an EMT.

Something tells me that in a real life situation you would do everything you needed without even thinking about it first. :thumbsup2

My recurring dreams are never good. I wonder if that says something about me? :scratchin

The dream I have the most is that someone is trying to kill me. Usually it's a serial killer and he's chasing me with a knife. Sometimes I get stabbed but I almost always end up killing him.

I also have frequent dreams that my teeth are falling out, my car doesn't have any brakes and I am using a toilet in a room full of people. The toilet one is really strange because no one seems to find it odd at all. They talk to me and I respond like it's perfectly ordinary to have to have a conversation while doing my business. :confused3

I never claimed to be normal! :teeth:

I have the same one as the poster above. I'm in school and I've NEVER been to this class and the year is over. How am I EVER going to pass a class I've NEVER been to. It's weird because I was a great student. I came in 4th in my class. It makes no sense.

The other one is even more disturbing. My teeth are falling out. I mean I touch them and they fall out and I'm horrified! I've had this one on and off for years.
