Do you have recurring dreams?

Or recurring themes in a dream??
I keep dreaming that I'm at a normal place (school, mall, friends house, disney, etc.) and there are these rickety bridges that I have to cross to get to anything I need to get to.

I also have recurring scary elevator dreams....like the elevator is somehow broken and only stops on half floors or it is super rickety or is somehow broken, but I HAVE to take it cuz I'm late for something or have to save someone or something like that.

What recurring dreams do you have?

I have lucid dreams almost every night adn I remember them. there is usually a common theme shared for two or three nights,t hen it switches. and they're usually nightmares. I do have one horrible nightmare that is teh same every night. the chicken suit dream. I will leave it at that. trust me. you don't watn me to go into details.

I often dream of being in HS and being unprepared for class (no paper, no book) and I can never find the classroom which is always Algebra (which I struggled with). Sometimes the school building is round and sometimes it is a maze and I just keep walking and walking and never get to class. Sometimes I even see old teachers standing outside their classroom doors.

I also dream about my crowns coming off (I have 4 front teeth crowned) and it has always been a tramatic thing for me. This is the nightmare that upsets me the most. I usually wake up in a true panic.

Welcome to Psychology Night here on the DIS. Phobias, dreams, deja vu. We've got everything! :lmao:

Yes, I have 3. One is the typical I'm back in school taking a final when I haven't been to class all semester. Sometimes it's a college class, but usually it's high school and I know in my dream that I've already graduated college, so it shouldn't matter. It's never the same exact dream, just a recurring theme.

The other one is I'm wearing my retainer from when I had braces. It's been 16 years since I've worn it. This dream is always the same that the retainer is hurting my teeth and I pop it off my teeth to make the hurt stop. But, I can't take it out of my mouth, so it just sits in there poking me. (My retainer had sharp edges. I hated that thing.) A few years ago I was able to take it out (in my dream) and I've never had the dream since.

The third one is I'm on the roof of some skyscraper and I just know I'm going to fall. I have to crawl around on the floor (or roof I guess) because if I stand up I'll lose my balance or the wind will blow me off. Again this is a recurring theme as the dreams themselves are different each time. And the funny thing is I'm not afraid of heights at all and love to go up to the top of skyscrapers for a city view. I guess it's another one of those anxiety dreams.

hehe, I have those dreams too....where it is a new quarter and I can't find my classroom and by the time I find it I realize I missed half the quarter already.

I used to have the tooth falling out dream, but haven't had it in a while.

Mine is similar to what Beth wrote. I have recurring dreams that I am back in High School, and somehow I manipulated the system so I was allowed to be there taking classes, even though I know I been out of HS for 20 years! In these dreams, I would see real fellow students I actually went to school with and haven't thought of in years! I get assignments but I think to myself - I am WAY beyond this and have a master's degree and I don't have to do it! And I would see some old teachers and wonder if I would get in trouble for being there! Yes, I know I must have many unresolved issues!

I live two blocks from my HS so probably not too unusual that I dream about it! And I will probably have the dream tonight since I just wrote this before going to bed .....! :teeth:

I have dreams where I work really hard doing things that I don't have a clue about. I also dream about doing things over and over. To say the least I wake up exhausted sometimes from working all night.

Have you been having my dreams ?! :rotfl: Mine are EXACTLY like that. lol Except I'm always wanting to get back in band . See, I left my beloved highschool band on my senior year to take some extra college courses, and I guess my subconsious will never let me live it down.

I also have very happy dreams about WDW months before a trip..lol Except in my dreams Epcot and MK are combined in one big park... :rolleyes1

When I am really stressed with lots on my mind, I dream that I am in a bed and that it is on fire. After I have this dream things usually start to settle down. It is very scary and when I awaken I am usually very shaken.

Not so much one recurring dream but a definite recurring theme (although I haven't had it for a little while now).

It always involves me being chased by a single man or about six boys who are trying to kill me with phallic objects (daggers, pistols). I have no idea why they are chasing me but, whenever they are close enough to get me, I press a switch (or something) on the inside of my left wrist and collapse and it turns out to be a game and as I just don't want to be killed and start over, I would rather reset the game myself (which I am doing by pressing the switch).

My favourite (ie, strangest and most Freudian) dream though was this:
I was on a giant space rocket with this family (father, mother, kids). I was having an affair with the father (nothing happened, but I was aware that that was my relationship with him, and I have no idea if the family knew). We were trying to land this rocket in - not ON - Venus, and we had to aim exactly right to get the rocket into this one hole on Venus that was opening and closing all the time.

I think Freud would love me.

Yes, I have had recurring dreams all my life. I remember having one as a child about my family and climbing on some cliffs but we were all Indians (American, full headdress, etc). I have had some others in adulthood, about 3 or 4 of them with various topics.

I dream every night though.

My favorite aspect of most dreams is that I can control them. About 20 years ago I was plagued by "falling" nightmares. I'd fall off buildings, out of airplanes, helicopters, out of windows...etc. I read an article about controling dreams and decided to give it a try.

Every night I would tell myself, if I fall, I'll fly. Everynight, I'd repeat it over and over. Well, it was just about 3 days later when the opportunity presented itself.

I fell off a building, as the panic set in I thought.."I can fly"

So I stuck my arms out to the sides and soared!! Man, what a feeling! Nothing like it, really.

So now, whenever I get the urge, I tell myself to fly and as soon as I dream, I fly!

Weird, huh?

::yes::

Despite what some people think, EVERYONE dreams EVERY night. It's just that sometimes you do not remember the dream. You're more likely to remember if you wake up/are woken up during REM.

Dreamer04 - I've done that too! But I haven't read any articles about being able to control my dreams at all.

I've also had dreams where I've actually thought 'hey, I'm dreaming!' and others where I've had 'memories' from other dreams.

Weird.

I find that there's often some real life interference as well (I guess that supports the theory that dreaming is your brain's chance to sort through the clutter of what happens during the day). For example, for these past few days I've found myself thinking a lot about JonBenet Ramsey (thanks to another thread here!) and had a truly awful dream last night involving my BF's 7yr old cousin.

That's called Lucid Dreaming, where you are aware that you're dreaming and can control it. I've only ever had that happen once. Maybe I should read up on how to do that. That'd be pretty cool.

I have about a half dozen "dream themes" that I usually dream about.

1) That I'm back in high school, but at my current age (whatever that may be, currently 31). Many of the times I'm running late for school or I missed a class.

2) That I just moved to a new house with odd features (one had a shower in my closet, on the carpeting and everything!).

3) That I have to take an elevator to get somewhere and it gets stuck, breaks down, or falls. I'm not "afraid" of elevators in real life - they do make me slightly nervous, but not enough to take the stairs! :lmao:

4) That one of my cats has gotten out of the house, then come home. Then suddenly, there are like 50 of them that all look alike and I can't tell which is mine.

5) That I'm somewhere that I want to travel to. For example, I have just started planning a birthday gift trip for my mom to Hawaii. She, my sis and I will be taking the trip, and a couple nights ago I dreamt that I traveled by plane to a friend's house and when I went out on his apt balcony, I was in Hawaii.

6) That I'm giving birth! (which I've never done!)

It's never exactly the same thing that happens in the dreams, even the ones with the same themes.

I can do that. I always thought it was just part of my lucid dreams. I'm usually in a near panic when I do it though. Like I had one dream where I was in a room with someone, and we were supposed to be somewhere but we weren't going, and we were hiding, and someone started to open the door and I just htought "don't come in here" and the door shut. then later in that dream someone was going to ask us where we were the whole time and I just thought "don't ask me that" and they started talkikng about something else.

I'm not sure how I do it, its just part of how I dream.

Yes. I had one of Johnny Depp and I kept that one going for about 4 consecutive nights. What a great nights sleep, that week! :woohoo:

Yes I have and they are not good. I keep dreaming of seeing Junior killed in various ways and even though I try to save him I can't.

Wow, I'm always able to control my nightmares & dreams to my advantage. :teeth: I thought anybody could do it. Maybe because I sleep so lightly that I am still conscious of the fact that I am dreaming? :confused3 Interesting...

lucky for me i often dream about living in disney world. my husband thinks it's hysterical. in my dreams i go to disney to get away from war, hurricanes, jail!! :rotfl:

i also dream a lot about driving around and around in a parking lot

also, the tooth/teeth falling out is one i've had the misfortune of having

and lastly i dream that i've bought a teeny tiny house and find a secret door in the back somewhere that opens into a HUGE dream mansion. i LOVE that dream!
