re another thread on the CB...

I hate guns, so no, I will never own one, let alone have one in my home.

I have my Dads old hunting rifle...he passed away....but no bullets/shells.

Yes we have a gun in our house. Break into my house in the middle of the night and I'll give you a close up of it. :thumbsup2 Sorry, was that too much?

Yes. DH is a hunter.

Yes, they are locked in a gun cabinet.

DS's have BB guns. They are stored separately from DH's guns, but not in the same place as the BBs that go in them.

no, but if there are any criminals out there, I lied, I have a bunch, go ahead and make my day

No
I am NOT anti gun.
Just dont believe guns are safe in houses with kids.

Or as my uncle the cop told me once. If a person is breaking in, shoot them and then drag them IN the house.

Yes, I have 10 deer rifles (270s, 30/06, 7mm, 8mm and others) and 12 pistols. My personal pistol is a 45.:smooth: If anyone messes with me, they have had a bad, bad day. I'm also a permit carrier.:thumbsup2

Does dh's service gun count? It's mandatory for his job. We keep it up high and locked up in its case with a lock on the trigger and No they don't scare me. I was raise around guns all my life.

No guns, then again, in my particular circumstances, statistically speaking, having a gun in my house would most likely result in either (1) someone in my family, potentially a child, accidentally shooting himself or herself, or (2) an intruder overpowering all 5'3" of me as I reach for the gun, ending in my own murder.

From a constitutional perspective, I can appreciate the right to carry a gun. I can, and I'm sure it had pivotal meaning in 1776, when war was fought in patriot backyards and guns and knives were the sole weapons. The world has changed a lot in 225 years, and our laws were intended to dynamically flex and breathe with social change. Heck, I nearly cried at a blissfully loving gay marriage a couple of hours ago, a couple that has been together for thirty-five years.

Back to the topic: I can appreciate the constitutional basis, but there comes a time when a new reality needs to be reflected. I drank Otago wine in a New Zealand vineyard last year with a crowd of country NZ natives - people who live in a spot roughly equivalent to American Iowa. The topic of handguns came up. "Why would any American want to have a handgun?" they asked us. "Their sole purpose is to kill people. Handguns don't have any other purpose. Don't they worry about their children?"

I never thought of it that way, but they're right.

I know many will disagree with this, but I think part of the problem with accidental shooting accidents, is people with guns not educating the kids.

People have guns, but they keep them locked up and away from the kids. Which to me just says OH LET'S SEE WHAT THIS BIG SECRET THING IS ABOUT.

I also grew up with guns. I don't think there was ever a time in my life when there wasn't a gun(rifle or shot gun) in the corner behind ever door in the house. Or when there wasn't a gun(hand gun) under the seat of the vehicle. This goes not just my parents house, but my grandparents, uncles, cousins. We were taught at a very very young age, not to mess with the guns.

Nope dont have one.. Never shot one, grew up around them. I just dont have any...

I grew up around guns my entire life. I have 7 siblings, none of us died from a gun in our home. Technically speaking there were minors in my parents house for 30 years and not one accident or even close call. My brothers also had BB guns the one and only incident that happened was not even my brothers doing. My father broke his BB gun into pieces, because he felt he was not being respectful of a gun. Respect for guns is taught.

My husband was born and raised in Canada, it is illegal to keep a hand gun in your home. His brother at one time had a hand gun in his home, it doesn't matter if it is legal or not, people can and do get them. People are murdered with shotguns and rifles.

Nope no guns in my house. Never will.

Now my IL's have many hunting guns as they live on a huge farm in CT. They are all locked up nice and tight. :thumbsup2

DH has a shotgun for hunting. Shells are separate if he even has any.

I absolutely agree with this post. I grew up around guns as well, they were always in the vehicle, next to the bed, in the closet, yadda yadda, and always loaded. My father allowed us to touch them with him present any time he cleaned them (which was regularly). He would check that they were unloaded and safe, then hand them to us. We could handle them, point them (but NOT at anybody, loaded or not) and all the while he would quietly repeat the lecture that guns were for killing, that they were not toys nor were they for threatening or intimidating anyone. That one should never pick up a gun unless prepared to use it, and never use it unless intending to kill. None of us ever messed with his guns when he wasn't with us, never showed them off to friends, etc. When we cleaned out his car we moved them out of our way and carried on.

Yes, I own a gun, and have guns in my home. I own a .45, which is kept up high and separate from the clip. I also have a couple of hunting rifles in my possession which do not belong to me but are being stored here for another family member.

When we first got married, DH had a couple. I made him get rid of them once we had kids.
