Do you have an issue with pets performing the dishwasher prewash step?

Sure! Plus we put down paper plates and she Carrie’s them under the dining room table. One of her favorite treats is licking the yogurt containers under the table (sugar snd fat free).

I think it teaches a dog bad manners and begging, so absolutely no. Food tidbits are either tossed on the floor while the dog isn't looking (not right next to the table though, they get tossed elsewhere in the room so he has to "hunt"), or handed well after dinner - either way, so that they aren't directly associating humans eating food with dogs getting scraps.

From a "grossness" standpoint, I don't care. They're about to be cleaned & sanitized.

I don't routinely offer up the plates for them to lick. If we're having something that they'll go nuts for.....like a steak or something, I reserve a few ounces and the juices....along with a couple of potatoes or whatever, and give them a special treat after dinner. But I give it to them in their bowls. Is there an Airedale or Schnauzer head occasionally *in* the dishwasher as we're loading....yup, and I just gently shoo them away. But I'm not grossed out or anything by it.

My dogs get into the dishwasher if we don’t catch them fast enough! They will prewash anything that they can get to lol.

We had a foster dog who would get on our counters and into the sink. It was unreal, we could not even believe it. We trained her not to before she went to her forever home, thankfully.

It doesn't matter as long as you wash them afterward. I've never understood why some poeple wouldn't use the same plates for pets and people.
My grandfather was like that. He once told my grandma to throw a bowl away after the dog licked it. That is crazy to me.

This is how we feel. I can't stand to have a dog sitting by me and begging for my food while eating. They will "pre-wash" if I am loading the dishwasher if I don't stop it.

Not a problem for us. We have a sanitize setting on our dishwasher that we use every time.

I’m not a pet person, although we do now have a dog in the household. It doesn’t get anywhere near our food or plates - that would be disgusting. :crazy2:

Totally agree. There's no way I would let a dog lick a plate. I don't care if it's going in the dishwasher and will 100% get properly cleaned, it would still be in my memory lol

And for the person saying you eat off plates that other people have used..yes, but not them full on licking it. As far as I know, humans don't lick their bits and pieces as well.

The Dog will lick plates in the dishwasher. He’s not huge so stands on the door to reach. He is in my way as I continue loading. I find that more annoying than the prospect of potential germs left on the plates so I push him out of the way or load when he isn’t around. DH gets really bent out of shape about it, though.
